I mean, because they'd be artifically born, they wouldn't need a belly button to attach to the ambilical chord and et cetera.

Unless they are attached to the cloning vat by one.

They're not artificially born. I'd think the best place to grow them would probably be in the womb.

That's what I was thinking... they have to be fed through a tube somehow...

Ah, but if they're cloned from the cells of someone who has been born (not embryonic or fetal cells) and they are an exact copy of that person...wouldn't the bellybutton be cloned too? :)

Okay, so thats the real world. How about Star Wars...how would they clone them there. Obviously they don't have anough women to clone them as they would be done here. In that case, would they have bellybuttons?

IATDS is right. Clones (at least in real life) are not immediately adults. They still must be carried in a surrogate mother's womb, and after birth they go through the same stages as anyone else.

I was wondering that about the AOTC clones before...

real clones would have belly buttons, I think...

They're not a photocopy of that person. They're just the same geneticly. So they would only have bellybuttons if they were incubated in a womb. Which they most likely will be, or have been. Just like the cloned sheep and cat.

Yes. Bellybuttons are in all mammals genetic structure. The umbilical cord would have to be used to nourish the unborn child, anyways.

You know, we're maybe ten years away from working uterine replicators, so we're not just talking clones here.

Once artificial wombs are made, you will probably find that the best way to nourish the cloned embryos during development is via an umbelical cord.

So when they are extracted from the artificial womb after 9 months, the umbelical cord would be cut and tied off like with any other baby, leaving a belly button.
