This question is for all the ladies who post on TF.N.

Put yourself in Padme's shoes in EP2.

And ask yourself the following questions.

    1. Would you have fallen in love with someone 10 years younger than you?
    2. With someone who has constant temper tantrums?
    3. With someone who is egotistical? And thinks he should be the "all-powerful".
    4. With someone who has such a differing view of politics? That a dictatorship might be preferrable to a democracy?
    5. With someone who just got done slaughtering entire families of Tusken Raiders? And not just the men, the women and children.

I ask myself, what the heck did she see in him? The only thing he did that was slightly romantic was Force-feed her that fruit when they were eating dinner. No pun intended.

I see your point. Would you have fallen in love with my husband if you were in my shoes. To each is own.

Well if I was a women and your husband fit the descriptions of at least questions 3, 4 & 5 I'd have to say no.

A simple answer to a simple question: She thought he was hot.

I just asked my girlfriend those questions and she said no to every one. Which doesn't mean that no one would fall in love with Anakin, but it would take a certain type of girl. I guess Padme is that girl.

I agree it would take a certain type of girl to fall in love with Anakin. I just don't see Padme as that type of girl...but oh well. whats done is done.

Sometimes, you just love someone because you love him/her. No matter what.

BTW: Anakin is 5 years younger.

Actually, I read somewhere that Anakin was actually 20 in AOTC, and Padme was 24, so there's actually a 4 year difference.

But I myself, being a straight male, would definately have fallen in love with Anakin...

    1. Would you have fallen in love with someone 10 years younger than you?

4 years younger actually. In TPM Amidala was 14, and Anakin was 10.

    2. With someone who has constant temper tantrums?

    He's human. Whiny, but human.

    3. With someone who is egotistical? And thinks he should be the "all-powerful".

When you look like him do you expect him not to be egotistical? His wanting to be all powerful is similar to most people wanting to be rich and/or powerful.

    4. With someone who has such a differing view of politics? That a dictatorship might be preferrable to a democracy?

Hey if Christians can marry Jews, I don't see how it would impact a marriage that much.

    5. With someone who just got done slaughtering entire families of Tusken Raiders? And not just the men, the women and children.

Padme didn't get the impression that Tuskens were human anyways. She had the idea they were vicious mindless monsters. I wouldn't feel too guilty killin some monsters, would you?

BTW, I can't believe I would EVER stick up for the horrendous love story in AOTC!

    1. Would you have fallen in love with someone 10 years younger than you?

4-5 years younger. And I don't see why I wouldn't fall for someone 4-5 years younger than me, solely on that basis.

    2. With someone who has constant temper tantrums?

Constant? She saw him have only one, and that was in response to his mother being killed.

    3. With someone who is egotistical? And thinks he should be the "all-powerful".

He said that in a moment of extreme grief. And yes, Anakin is egotistical, but Han was too and Leia fell for him hook, line and sinker.

As for whether I would fall for someone who is egotistical...I don't know, it would depend on his other qualities.

With someone who has such a differing view of politics? That a dictatorship might be preferrable to a democracy?

She thought he was teasing her. As for whether I'd fall for someone like that, no, probably not. But I'm not a character in this story.

With someone who just got done slaughtering entire families of Tusken Raiders? And not just the men, the women and children.

My impression was she'd already fallen in love with him before that. In the DVD edition, she says, "To be angry is to be human." I think she understands why he did what he did.

well, there was also that scene in Padme's Senatorial apt, when he raises his voice, about how Obi-wan treats him.

Putting myself in Padmé's shoes, I think I would have fallen in love with him too.

    1. Would you have fallen in love with someone 10 years younger than you? 5 years, 10 years, whatever - in such cases age is usually irrelevant.
    2. With someone who has constant temper tantrums? They weren't constant, and they weren't really tantrums either, just some letting off steam '("it's not fair!" - but he gets himself under control fairly quickly). I would hardly say he was out of control.
    3. With someone who is egotistical? And thinks he should be the "all-powerful". Let's face it - ambition can be attractive. Plus he wasn't so egotistical and self-centred that he didn't put her interests before his own (e.g. - when she said no at the fireplace scene, he respects her decision and doesn't bug her after that).
    4. With someone who has such a differing view of politics? That a dictatorship might be preferrable to a democracy? Lots of couples have different political views, and choose to not let it interfere with the relationship.
    5. With someone who just got done slaughtering entire families of Tusken Raiders? And not just the men, the women and children. As BoxOfficeMan said, I don't think Padmé lost too much sleep over some dead creatures that torture people for a month as a rite of passage. And as Shelley said, she'd already fallen in love with him by then anyway.

Bottom line, there was chemistry. She started falling for him as soon as she saw him all grown up, and saw his own attraction to her. After the chemistry bugs start jumping, it's end of story, man.

They're 2 young, attractive people. They're put together in romantic and stressful situations for an extended period of time. There's nobody else around. What do you think is going to happen?

    Intriguing topic, L_J. :)

Can't speak for all the gals, this is just me. When I look at a person, I usually see him/her wholistically. I don't tend to pick out traits and say I like a guy because he's this way or that way. With your questions, you broke down Anakin's traits. If you take them one by one, there may be reasons for a gal to say no, I won't fall for him. But as a whole, I have to admit that Anakin has a certain something that would definitely make me fall for him, taking all those negative traits aside. That's just how I look at people. Others may see things differently. :)

Him being that much younger, at Padme's age, is not really a problem. At the time when he was 10 and she was 14 or something, it would've been awkward, but where they were during AOTC, I think the age difference is manageable.

The constant temper tantrums, I don't think Padme really saw those, except the one in the Lars homestead, and probably the one in the Naboo throne room, but I hardly think that will turn her off.

The "all-powerful" thing was said when he was really angry and in sorrow. I guess she looked at it that way too.

The politics thing... well, Padme used to like this guy, Paolo, and he became an artist! So a differing view on politics probably isn't part of her criteria. Besides, certain differences make life more exciting. Heehee.

The slaughtering thing, well, it was done in grief and anger also. And she did say that to be angry is to be human, so she probably understood. And I agree that she probably already loves him enough by that time to forgive that instance.

Wrapping up, yes, I still think I'll probably fall for Anakin. :D

Since I'm male and this doesn't apply to me, I'm more than willing to open my mouth (so to type).

Since Padme's a politician, she SHOULDN'T have married him... she SHOULD have made him her personal intern and when Ani became too obsessed, shipped him off to work with the Naboo Guard.
As long as Padme gets that blue robe back from him... no one would know. ;)

BTW, I could have been friends with Anakin, 'cause he had cool toys, ambition, and I'd want to play with his lightsaber.

Waitaminute, that last line is literal, I'd like to use his lightsaber... ARRGH!

NO, I'M NOT GAY OR HOMOSEXUAL!!
Get your mind outta the trash compactor!

Now if it was a woman that displayed all of those traits... I'd fall in love with her. Don't know if I'd marry her, but there would be love, oh yes, lots & lots of love. AHHHH. [face_love]

    1. Would you have fallen in love with someone 10 years younger than you?

Love is love no matter the age, as cliché as that sounds. My parents actually are 10 years apart from each other - and they have been happily married for 14 years.

    2. With someone who has constant temper tantrums?

All people have their faults, and everyone carries anger.

    3. With someone who is egotistical? And thinks he should be the "all-powerful".

What man isn't[/b] egotistical? *Lol* ;) But seriously: I hate to throw this in again but everyone has their faults - and everyone wants to be "all-powerful" if given the chance.

    4. With someone who has such a differing view of politics? That a dictatorship might be preferrable to a democracy?

Politics shouldn't interfear with love and/or attraction. In my opinion anyway...and when Padmé was in the process of falling in love with Anakin dictatorship wasn't a clear threat - how could she have known the events that would fallow?

    5. With someone who just got done slaughtering entire families of Tusken Raiders? And not just the men, the women and children.

This is a question of personal matter: if I were Padmé I would have seriously thought about the relationship after that...but as Rick McCallum said in the DVD commentary: "...It's just like having someone in your family with a serious problem, but you don't stop loving them."

"Would you fall in love with someone 10 years younger than you?"

That depends on the law... if you are over 18 & they are over 18 ... that's okay... if you are 20 and they are 10, that's illegal, if you are 10 and they are 0, that's ******! [face_shocked]

That analogy even works if there is a 5 year difference.

    I say do a "Anna Nicole"... go for a 40/50 year difference and make a profit! 8-}
