Hello everyone, in my local newspaper I read that Keith Richards will not eat cheese because he believes that it is addicting and it makes people fat. The 64 year old rock star who has extensively abused his body, has done every drug known to man, and who smokes and drinks more than all of us combined seems to believe this. Do you believe this? Would you take health advice from Keith Richards? Why or why not?

So, cheese is out, but dead father's ashes is ok?

Generally though, I'd say any "serious" advice given by celebrities is treated more as a curiosity.

I don't take health advice from anyone without at least some somewhat plausible evidence or explanation for the belief. If Keith Richards gave some evidence for his belief in the danger of cheese, then yes, I would probably at least consider it regardless of his other personal life choices.

I'd say sixty four million or so French people would disagree - for all of their wine swilling and cheese eating, how many obese French people do you see compared to Americans, Australians and Brits?

In my view, 90% of the claims by rock stars and actors of 'drug abuse' are pure b******. It's all part of their image. Take, Anthony Keidis from RHCP, now that guy has been a poster boy for buffness and fitness since day one yet he also claims to have managed a 'serious' heroine habit/addiction at the same time. I say b******. I've worked with heroine addicts and I tell you they are physically weak/emaciated specimens.

Take these claims with a very large handful of salt. It's all just theatre.

This was about politics rather than health, but I think the advice works pretty strongly for most serious things:
"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal." - Alice Cooper

I´m suddenly an Alice Cooper fan. Does that make me a moron?

Bah, Keith is older than my father ever was... And my father told me to eat lots of cheese.

So, I still have his ashes; question is, should I smoke him?

Drugs and alcohol can be major relievers of stress. Death and bad health set in when your drug use overrides your stree relief levels. This does take into account doing massive drugs while young when your body can handle it better. Most of the 80's bands and prior do far less drugs if any than what they consumed in their day. This is not to say such people will live as long as they could have and how well they will get along in old age.

Personally, I would take some advise, but it depends on what it is.

If it was about drugs or drinking maybe. Anything else would be a big FAT NO. I mean really what dose Keith Richards know about giving health advice.

Uhm because being fat is far worse than being a drug addict who looks like the crypt keeper because of all the abuse they have put their body through?

    I'll stick with the cheese.

Considering that he's kept on tickin' even after all he's done, he's gotta be doing SOMETHING right.

I´m not sure it´d bother me much to be Keith.
To look like him but not be him, I think that´d suck.

I know some guys who kinda look like him. Went hard in the seventies. Really, they´re misfits... I think that look only works for you if you´re a relatively well-known rock star, which I don't think any of us are.

Anyone who's been abusing his body as severely as he has for as long as he has probably knows a thing or two about staying alive, I'd say.

But I like cheese, and I'm not fat or addicted, so I'll pass on this. :p

    Maybe he's a robot. :p

But no really I would listen to my docoter before listing to a Rock Star or actor about health issues.

I doubt Keith Richards is a Robot. Is he a freak of nature as far as living goes? yes. But is he a robot? absolutely not.

I think there is nothing wrong with naturally cheese that has been processed organically. Perhaps he is referring to the cheese that has rBST injected into the cows that makes them produce more milk thus more cheese. Poor cows

You can tell when he's on heroin but he has maintained a general level of fitness. If you read Scar Tissue you'll know he struggled with drug addiction and he eventually overcame. Now John Frusciante...

Yeah, I've read Scar Tissue as I'm a pretty big RHCP fan I just don't believe half of it. I'm sure he's done a lot of heroin but I think his claims regarding the extent of his addiction are exaggerated. Yeah, John Frusciante is and Hillel Slovak was the real deal.

Not only would I not take health advice from Kieth Richards, but I would not take ANY advice in ANY form from ANY of the Rolling Stones.

To this day the Rolling Stones are pretty much the bawdiest people that ever graced the stage of rock, and frankly my life is complicated enough as it is.

Anyone who can abuse their body with so much for so long and is still be alive today is worth, at least, listening to imho. :D

I'd take advice from Richards on what NOT to do. Sort of a reverse role model.

Yes I see what your saying, The Rolling Stones are also one of the most successful bands that ever graced the stage of rock. But I doubt Keith's drug addiction is an image thing.
