Wouldn't the Death Star Troopers get like radiation sickness from being near the laser?

Like those two poor saps who get the job of having to keep an eye on the laser shooting out into space. Plus they have no guardrail to keep them from falling over

Well, the Empire ran out of funding before the guardrails could be installed. :p

It was just a laser, so those guys were probably okay as long as they weren't staring into the beam. They must have gotten a nice tan, though.

There was most likely a containment field aroud that ""LASERRRR"" [face_pinkyfinger], so no harm done at all. ;)

"i ask to put a railing in, but guess what management said? management thought we might be leaning on it all day" ,lol

i would imagine there is a containment field otherwise radiation would go all over the death star

Even assuming they would get radiation poisoning, its not like the upper Imperial management would have cared. Those technicians die, they simply replace them. Its not as if they had a shortage.

On the other hand, if those gunners had been replaced, Yavin 4 might have been destroyed after all. See the Death Star novel.

Because it wasn't a laser beam. It was a planet destroyer beam or Death Ray if you like.

or perhaps it was because it was a Star Wars laser beam. :-B

Despite the rumored excellent quality of the Imperial Health Care Plan and Stormtrooper Security Pensions, I don't think old Palpatine really cared much for the well-being of those Death Star workers.

Well still... if youre working as a Death Star trooper ending up doing hangar control or awaiting the lasers into space I would demand to have railings and some kind of protection from the laser if was radioactive somewhat.

Like was said, the Empire is indifferent to whether some technicians get sick. They can recycle them. Do we even know if the superlaser was radioactive? Poor blokes if it was. At least they were protected from being blinded. [face_hypnotized]

They apply SPF-1000 tanning lotion prior to the beginning of their shift.

Dude, they put their arms over their eyes. They're totally protected. It's like you guys don't know anything about science and stuff.

TLJ Edit: even in sarcasm that last bit was a bit much

lol. you guys do realize it's a movie right? lasers like that are not real.

the real lasers I know do no emmit radiation. a laser is simply a focused light beam. can't be more harmful than the sun. and the laser looked green, so that tells you it was cool laser, not hot light.

And yet you post threads asking whether Boba Fett died in the Saarlac pit. Curious [face_thinking] .

but within the film there is no mention that lasers cause radiation. plus all the guys working there wear helmets.

The film also fails to mention Boba Fett's "special night helmet" or his armor's ability to withstand stomach acid, yet you felt free to post about them.

We can go on like this for some time, but I am quite sure you understand the point of my argument but just don't care.

Suspension of disbelief via any technology shown in SW is not hard to use to explain this with but "it's just a movie" is just a desperate form of "I'm cooler than you" which is usually not actually the case.

It would be funny to see those technicians take off their helmets and be all gaunt, pale and have their hair coming out in clumps. 'Uh, sir, I don't feel so well.' They died in the service of the Empire. [face_skull]

The troopers are fine, but their children all have six arms.
