Hello, all. Much in the style of my previous recreation/FX Test "Obi-Wan vs. General Grievous", I have again remade a scene from a movie with me as all of the actors, but mainly made for the special effects. But this one isn't really funny like Obi vs. Grievous. Today we have the scene from X-Men: The Last Stand where Magneto just gave a speech at the church full of mutants collaborating and the small conflict that follows, including visual demonstrations of the mutant powers of Pyro, Kid Omega, and Callisto. I have included the original scene in the video for comparison.

If you even decide to download and watch it, let me know what you think. Thanks.

P.S. I love how there are all of these threads recently about X-Men effects tests. I thought I'd join in.

P.S.S. And as for having the footage of that scene on here, that scene was on the 7-minute FOX preview and is available online anyway.

The video quality is terrible, so it is hard to comment.
From what I could see though, I really liked the Kid Omega effect. Are those practical quills glued to your face or are they CG?

That footage is from the trailer which has been online for a couple of months at least.

    Good Job!
you know I would really like to see you do an entire film though,(because you do a really good job!) and not just a scene/fx test.

Trowa, this scene is online already. It's no big deal.
The test is nice, though it'd be better with a higher-res like the others said.

I'd add more spikes for Kid Omega, if that's what he's called, and ambient glow for Pyro. The speed effect was cool. The paper was a nice touch. I assume that was done practically. How, may I ask?

Thanx for the thoughts. I figured out my problem with the quality (pixel aspect ratio), and here is a higher quality version of just my version.

    http://files.filefront.com/dsfdssmov/;5128938;;/fileinfo.html

As for Kid Omega's quills, I bought toothpicks, spray-painted them black, cut them in half, and with the help of spirit gum glued them on. In post, I took the first few frames of the shot and use the clone paint tool to cover up the tips and in the next frames reduce it gradually until they're all out. I know there should have been more of them, but most of them are in his hair and the widescreen bars cut off the hair anyway, but I still like the way it turned out.

For Pyro I did try to put in a little bit of ambient lighting on the face, but it's kinda weak and small.

Now that I look at my Callisto run, it looks boring, but the paper is a nice touch. I just filmed me running and sped it up with some directional blur. Then I threw the papers up in the air and just masked it on after I ran by.

That's pretty awesome. The speed effect was cool. I like you got the pages to fly up too. Nice touch.

Yeah that was pretty interesting. The spikes coming out of the face looked sweet.

That X3 footage is very old. It's not all from the trailer, but the official site actually released like 12 clips from the film, one of which was that scene.

I liked the Quill/Kid Omega effect. The others were well done, but the Quill bit was my favorite and I was wondering if you'd pull it off well.

But dude, do you not have any friends? Why do you have to keep adding yourself in as each character in your films? Just kidding man. Definately impressed by your work here, as well as that Obi-wan/Grievous movie you made a while back.

The Pyro fireball was just stock footage. Actually, it was 2 clips of fire. One of them is a DetFilms stock, which I believe, isn't on the site anymore, but I use it a lot. The other one is like a torch fire. I got it off of some stock footage website that had 5 free clips if you registered. They're great clips. One of them is a blue ring of fire explosion just like the Death Star explosion ring! It looks awesome. If anyone wants the clips, I'd be glad to post 'em.
