I just came across the trailer for this movie. I'm sure most of you remember the joke that was XXX, but I just watched the trailer and checked out the website and I have to admit that this has potential. I think with this movie they will get the feel that they missed with XXX, which is basically an American Bond film. Although I'm not surprised, considering that this movie is being made by the director of Die Another Day. In any case, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Well, the first xXx was a pretty solid and fun action flick- it set the grounds for what could have been a worthy Bond-esque franchise.

Then they shot themselves in the foot by changing lead stars to Ice Cube. Sure the "different xXx every movie" approach could work out in the end, but it basicly kills any chance of the franchise lasting long. This isn't like Fast and the Furious where the cars are the star, afterall.

Then they did an even dumber move by apparently filming a new ending to xXx for the "director's cut" DVD coming out where, not only did they use a different actor to play Vin's character- they killed Vin's character off!

I can't believe they'd do something as mindblowingly stupid as (literally) killing off any chance of Vin's character returning should there be further sequels.

Still, this one could still turn out decent- Ice Cube may not have the acting skill or charisma that Vin Diesel has, but he's still a decent actor and, above all else, Sam THE MAN Jackson is still in it, so I'll probably still check it out, in the hopes it's decent and that perhaps, if this one is not a failure, the franchise might continue and they can ignore that stupid DVD ending and bring Vin back.

And to think, I once thought Lee Tamahori a promising director. . .

    Huh..Willem's in this, too?

That's actually a decent set of actors they have going...

I'm with 2ndQuest in having enjoyed the first XXX on a mindless-popcorn level..

This one could actually prove to be superior..

Well as I said this one being made by a Bond vet, so I'm kind of optimistic about this movie, and yeah I think it could be alot better than the first one, which I found so rediculous as to be actually funny.

Hey he chose to change diapers in The Pacifer rather than kick ass in XXX,let him suffer his consequences

Sorry but I have never heard Vin Diesel described as a good actor or someone with charisma.

And Ice Cube is a far superior actor then Vin Diesel.

I disagree- I think Vin has tremendous screen precense (hell, thats the reason why the Riddick character became so popular so as to spin off an eventual trilogy of films) and is actually a pretty decent actor (though a small role, he was pretty good in Boiler Room). I'll always be baffled by the anti-Vin comments you find on some movie boards.

I'm not knocking Ice Cube- as I said, he's also a decent actor, but I don't think he has much star presence like the XXX character needs, and I don't think he has that big of a range. (I'm not saying Vin has the biggest range either, but i think he does have a larger range than Cube- Cube just always looks like he's angry/scowling).

Sigh... yet another movie with more explosions than brains...

Those movies still have a place in Hollywood, and all of the good ones are fast disapearing. All movies shouldn't be judged on the same standard. The standard is not that an action should have more "brains" as you put it, but if it can preform adequately in it's own field with "explosions". It's like judging a turtle on how fast it can fly, when it should be judged on a realistic standard. Si?

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy comes out the same day. I would rather see Hitchhiker, but I might see this if I have extra time.

Trilogy? Isn't there only two? And wasn't the second one a complete flop?

2nd Quest, I agree on Boiler Room, he was great in that. But other then that one performance, he hasn't really impressed me much.

Ice Cube on the other hand, has been impressive in the Friday Trilogy, Three Kings, Boyz N The Hood, and the Barbershop films. Although he was pretty bad in Anaconda, Ghosts of Mars and Are We There Yet.

I probably won't go and see it, two reasons:
    1. It's coming out the same day as Hitchhiker's, wouldn't miss that for anything
    2. I never really liked the original...granted it was a decent action flick...but that's it

The Chronicles of Riddick is the first of a trilogy, and they've said that they want to make the rest of them. I really hope that they do.

    >>Trilogy? Isn't there only two? And wasn't the second one a complete flop?<<

Well, that's why I said "eventual trilogy". And they're not counting Pitch Black in that, so right now there's technically just the one.

Though it didn't do great at the boxoffice, it apparently did very well on DVD (where the much, much better unrated director's cut was able to be released) and Vin says Riddick 2 will be his next project after he completes his Hannibal movie.

Apparently good enough to make pursuing Riddick 2 viable ;)

I wonder why internationally this film has the subtitle The Next Level??? Do the producers / film studio think that world audiences are uneducated hicks who have know idea what the State of the Union is???

I read on a movie news site (forget which one) that discussed the third xXx potentially having a female lead star as xXx... what do you think of that? If it is someone like Michelle Rodrigez, that would be awesome in my opinon! ;)
