    Ikrit
    Dooku
    Ki-Adi-Mundi
    Luke Skywalker

He has also trained many younglings including obi-wan

He has trained just about every Jedi that existed over the past 800 years.

I think he means who he took as a Padawan.

If dooks wasn't yoda's paddy, then why does he call him "My old padawan" in Ep.II?

For the same reason that Yoda refers to the youngling that solved the mystery of Kamino a "Padawan". Apparently, if Yoda took on all the younglings that he trained as padawans before turning them over to other Jedi Masters. LOTJ shows that he trained Dooku in this way too.

And Jedi in training can be called a Padawan, just as anyone currently in the process of learning something can be called a "student." Calling them such does not imply they are your student however.

Example. Anakin is still a Padawan in the Republic comics. Obi-Wan is not the only one who calls him "Padawan" and reverse Anakin is not the only one who calls Obi-Wan "Master."

So, at one point Dooku was a Padawan, and Yoda was placing emphasis on this. This is similar to what Vader does in A New Hope to goad on Obi-Wan. Though Yoda was taking a more accusatory tone than Vader's one of superiority.

And yes, Yoda being one of the oldest and the highest ranking of the Jedi considers almost all Jedi to be his Padawan, as he has most likely taken part in the training of thousands if not millions of them over his career.

^Be that as it may, Yoda called him MY padawan. I don't have any students, but I can refer to other students as 'students.' I wouldn't refer to them as 'MY student' though, unless they were. I think Yoda would do the same.

Yoda DID train Dooku but not in a one on one Master-Padawan relationship. Dooku was undoubtedly part of a Mighty Bantha Clan or some such class. Obi-Wan never trained under Yoda one on one but he still tells Luke that Yoda was "the Jedi Master who instructed me."

    True.

And you have to remember that Yoda was not one to speak in a conservative manner.

But that's just me covering my ass. Actually, I was just showing that to call someone a Padawan they don't have to be your own. At any rate, Dooku was not an apprentice to Yoda in the same sense that Qui-Gon was to Dooku.

I see that thame is mentioned as his master on starwars.com. I don't like that at all. Aotc makes it seem like yoda was dooku's padawan, and i feel that worked really well. I think it is things like this that make some people think the eu is stupid. In this istance i would agree with them.

I agree, and haven't actually read Legacy of the Jedi myself. I despise Jude Watson.

And the cover of the book makes little sense with Yoda appearing above Dooku as if he was his Master, as all the other Master-Apprentice teams atest to on the cover.

An entire clone army had been secretly created for the Republic, by decree of a late Jedi, Sifo-Dyas. None in the Council knew of this development, nor had they foreseen it. Further investigation revealed that the Separatists were gearing up for war. Count Dooku, one of Yoda's former Padawans, was consolidating a military force out of the droid armies of the commerce guilds. Something needed to be done.

this is from yoda's data bank entry.

It was a great blow to the Jedi order when Count Dooku voluntarily renounced his commission. A strong-minded man, Dooku's ideas were often out of step with those of the Jedi Council, despite the fact that his former mentor, Yoda, held a lofty position in that governing body. His challenging views were often echoed by his former Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn, another Jedi who would on occasion defy the Council.

Legacy of the Jedi is actually really good. I don't care much for the JA or JQ series but I really liked LOTJ. It provided great insight into Dooku's character. The reason that Yoda is shown there with Dooku is that Dooku hadn't begun training with Thame yet. Plus, the book makes it clear that one of the things that drove Dooku to succeed and later turn to the Darkside was a desire to be greater than Yoda. He felt that Yoda was often self-righteous and needlessly came down on him when he was an apprentice at the temple.

Maybe Dooku was so promising that Thame turned him over to Yoda in time? Didn't Aubrie was supposed to train with Windu (poor Mace, now he's lost all his padawans) to further develop her skills where Sirrus had nothing left to teach her? Same for Andur Sunrider, who trained with Chamma but then was turned over to Thon. Or perhaps Thame died and Yoda took him?

I think Empotojayos Brand was also his apprentice, but it could've been Yaddle.

"I think Empotojayos Brand was also his apprentice, but it could've been Yaddle."

Brand was Yoda's apprentice. Ki-Adi-Mundi was also Yoda's padawan. Dooku, however, was not; as other have said, he studied with Master Thame Cerulian, which I find odd given Yoda's misleading dialogue at Geonosis. In fact, I think one of the bigger Star Wars misconceptions is that Yoda was Dooku's personal master. Then again, its no more misleading than Obi-Wan saying: "There you will learn from Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me." Yoda seems to be the epicenter of many confounding claims by old, senile Jedi, folks like Dooku and Obi-Wan who would like the galaxy to think they were padawans of the illustrious Yoda. You know... I'm sure Jedi like to pad their resumes as well, and "Thame Cerulian" doesn't quite have the ring of "Yoda." I could see Dooku schmoozing some clients at a luncheon, saying, "Oh yes, I was Yoda's finest protégée." From a certain point of view...

Or maybe Yoda was just putting Dooku down. Maybe 'my old Padawan' just measn that in Yoda's eyes Dooku is still a padawn, even though hes getting on a bit.
