I have yet to read any of that series. I think I would gain a better understanding of the solos and the other younger Jedi Knights. Will I also gain a better sense of the NJO? Is it worth the time and money(I really should be reading As You Like It!). This has nothing to with anything but, wasn't that USA v. Russia hockey game phenominal!

Well, it certainly wasn't the knockout that the USA/Finland men's game was, but it wasn't bad at all. I had to get the results cause I changed shortly after Russia's second point. So glad it ended up a tie instead of Russia winning.

As for the YJK being worth it, I think it is. Of course I've only read two in the series (Lightsabers and Darkest Knight). But it does give use a look into the adventures of Jacen, Jaina, and their friends (particulary Tenel Ka and Lowbaca) when they were mere students. You'd also need to get Junior Jedi Knights (which I have none so I really cant recommend it) to get the adventures of Anakin and Tahiri.

The characters seem to have changed a bit in the NJO. Jacen was a real joker (all of those I read being bad) in YJK, where as he's more into philosophy in the NJO. You definately get a feel for the differnces and the similarities.

Kevin J. Anderson writes most of those, does he not? Does the YJK series stick to Anakin's ability with machinery? That is one thing I wish they wouldn't have dropped in NJO.

As I have understood it, Anakin really didn't have a role in the YJK. In Darkest Knight, he sends Tenel Ka a data card showing her how to braid her hair with one hand, which she lost in a duel with Jacen in Lightsabers. It's Junior Jedi Knights you want if you're after Anakin stories. Young Jedi Knights are stories about Jacen and Jaina and their friends.

For KJA books they aren't bad. If you're interested in them, they're a good enough read. A lot of the NJO characters get most of their histories from those books.

YJK and JJK were both great back in the day when i read them. its still a fun way to spend an afternoon, but they arent the earth shattering novels that SbS was and VotF, but still, you can't have everything. the best YJK were books 1-6, it goes downhill from there with the 'diversity alliance' coming into play. after that it was just a desperate grab for more money and a larger contract so they wrote three more, which were pretty bad, and pointless.
in one of the NJO books they made a brief reference to jacen's former personality with joking, saying that he used to joke to cover up his philosphical side, for some reason.

They're novels and short. I can't tell you where to buy them, because I haven't. My library has all the SW books except DJ.

I'd say read them. They help with SBS and DJ.

Will I also gain a better sense of the NJO?

    Yes, especially SbS.

Is it worth the time and money?

Yeah, It's not great writing, but it's good. The information into the characters themselves can be beneficial.

Does the YJK series stick to Anakin's ability with machinery?

Yes, but Anakin isn't mentioned much in the books, Junior Jedi Knights focuses more on him.

For me, the YJK is kind of like EU comfort food. It's one of the series I've grown up with, so they've all got a special place in my heart even though they're not the best books out there. The writing quality isn't the greatest, true, but the books are fun, and the characters are great. So to answer the topic question of this thread: sure. :)

thats how i am with the x wing novels, and tales of the bounty hunters. YJK are novels, but they are more of the 'young adult' level than a full blown novel. junior jedi knights is a childrens book, found in the childrens section of borders, at least over here in miami. they are still in print, both series, as far as i know, so it shouldnt be a problem getting it. if not, i'm sure amazon.com has them up their sleeves somewhere.

The YJK is very good, but they're young-adult reading level. I'd recommend borrowing them or getting used copies if you can.

I enjoyed the first 6 YJK books, didn't get much into the second series yet. I also ended up losing a few of my YJK books somehow, so I had to rebuy a couple. Sadly, the reprints don't have the foilized Star Wars logo that the first prints did, so now they mismatch::\

Yes, definitely. They are both worth reading, and it will help you understand them better in the NJO.

The YJK and JJK books are good for background information. A few years ago, I borrowed them from the library. (The librarian thought that I was borrowing the books for my kids!!) Whenever I see one of the books in a used book store or a bargain book store I pick it up. I now have all of the YJK books. The first 6 books are in a hard cover collection.
