So Palps says this to Obi-Wan and Anakin....but what does Anakin think of that, considering that this is the same guy that's been feeding him all that stuff about becoming the "most powerful Jedi" and etc?

Well, since Palpatine wants a confrontation I guess he says so knowing that such a comment will only provoke Anakin. I guess Anakin isn't too bothered by this statement, but it doesn't make him wanna defeat Dooku any less, that's for sure.

He's trying to bait them. He knows the Jedi are arrogant and their ego's will lead them into a fight.

Well just look at what our two arrogant Jedi immediately espouse:

OBI-WAN: You won't get away this time, Dooku.

[....]

ANAKIN: My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count.

-- Revenge of the Sith, 2005
[/blockquote]

Palpy is the master manipulator....

Palps could have also been using Dooku as an example of how much more powerful the Sith are than the Jedi. Dooku is much older than either Obi Wan or Anakin, and he was out numbered two to one. Dooku destroyed Obi Wan and was not beaten by Anakin until Anakin started giving into his hatred of Dooku. By saying those few words, Palps planted the seed in the back of Anakin's mind that by becoming a Sith, Anakin would become more powerful than any other Jedi and be able to save Padme. IMO

Anakin hadn't yet had any dreams about losing Padme at that point. He was giving into his hate for what Dooku has done to him

"You're no match for him, he's a Sith Lord!"

Its fits into the story. The last time Obi-Wan and Anakin faced Dooku, they got whopped. Palps is pretending to be caring.

It also gives Palpatine/ Sidious and "out clause" with Dooku. Meaning he had his sights on Anakin from the get-go. He cut ties with everyone who helped him get into power. He had them killed. But, not by just anyone some were killed in a war he created.

They were also killed be the one person who he wanted all along. Anakin/Darth Vader. Forget Darth Maul and the aford mentioned Dooku. I'm convinced that He would have had Vader kille Maul if he was still around. But, because of the "There's always two." And Anakin was much stronger & younger than Dooku that made him the odd man out.

Yep. It was bait for both Jedi, Anakin in particular as he prides himself on being the best Jedi. It also allows him to fake out Obi-wan, by making it look like he has their best interests at heart.

"You're no match for him, he's a Sith Lord!"

I always found the statement to be interesting, considering how Palps was a Sith Lord himself of course.
Also, Obi's response of "Sith Lords are our [english pronunciation]speciality[/english pronunciation]" is interesting too.
It's like: "oh really? If they're your speciality why don't you recognize you're talking to one?"
Come to think of it, that COULD be interpreted as arrogance on Obi's part if you wanted to.

Like I said, it's an interesting interaction, and one of my favorites in the movie.

Yeah, this line illustrates both the arrogance of the Jedi, and Palpatine's evil ways; it would be like Hitler saying "Uh oh, look out for those Nazis!"

It's funny that Obi-Wan says that Sith Lords are his "speciality," since he narrowly escaped death at the hands of both Maul and Dooku.

Ironic, since your post is in turn even more pointless.

Oh, no...

I'm just pointing out that there are a LOT of pointless threads around here. And just using this one to say so.

This board actually has its own thread for such queries:

I'd like to point out that it was Obi Wan who said " Sith Lords are our speciality ". Seems like it provoked him more than it did Anakin, ironic considering Anakin is the more arrogant one of the pair.

I think one element you are all overlooking is the fact that at this point in the saga, Dooku is finally considered a Sith Lord.

How did the Jedi find out Dooku was a Sith Lord?

Ummm, one element you are overlooking is the end of AOTC. Yoda knew, Yoda told. :p

Dooku escaped, with the Jedi aware of his succumbing to the dark side, but yet still unaware of his Sith allegiance. Aboard his exotic interstellar sail ship, Dooku traveled to a decrepit warehouse district on Coruscant. There, he met with his master, Darth Sidious, and delivered the good news: the Clone Wars had begun.

Is it just me, or in the Movie or Novel does the line actually read "Go get help! You're no match for him..."

I might be adding that out of my own imagination, but I thought that is what Palpatine said. If so, where were they doing to get help from.

"Just a minute Dooku, we need to contact the Jedi Temple so that we may bring in some others, can you open a landing bay?" - Obi-Wan

I actually laughed in the theater when I first heard this line from Palpy, because we know he was actually trying to provoke Anakin with these words, he was also saying to the two Jedi that came to save him was that since Dooku is a Sith Lord, you both will be defeated and I will still remained captured.

From one point of view for Palpy it was as said a way to get in Anakin's head and provoke him to anger and hatred toward Dooku. But for Obi-Wan he is not moved much at all and comes back at Palpatine with saying Sith Lord's are a Jedi's specialty.

I really like as someone said earlier that Palpatine was planting a seed that would bear fruit later on that a Sith Lord with his use of the dark side is more powerful than a Jedi. And of course Dooku does his part with planting another seed in Anakin that fear and anger are actually tools to access more power.

Darth Sin!
