Bobby Hatfield, half of Righteous Brothers duo, dies at 63

    07.11.2003

Bobby Hatfield, who with partner Bill Medley pioneered "blue-eyed soul" as the Righteous Brothers with hits like Unchained Melody and You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, died yesterday of undetermined causes in a Michigan hotel. He was 63.

Hatfield's body was discovered in his bed 30 minutes before the duo were to perform at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.

Manager David Cohen said Medley, who teamed with Hatfield 42 years ago, was "broken up. He's not even coherent".

The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling has been cited by numerous sources as the most-programmed song in radio history.

    Breaks out Unchained Melody... :(

:( ...And I'm sitting here with the CD of their hits right beside me. What a loss - that unique sound, those wonderful harmonies. Rest in Peace, Bobby, knowing that you brought joy to a lot of people.

    [link=http://onenews.nzoom.com/onenews_detail/0,1227,247240-1-455,00.html]Cocaine helped kill singer[/link]
    Jan 07, 2004

Righteous Brothers singer Bobby Hatfield's death in November was caused by cocaine and not just heart failure, says the official autopsy report.

Dr Richard Tooker, chief medical examiner for Kalamazoo County, told the Kalamazoo Gazette in today's editions that Hatfield's death was triggered by acute cocaine intoxication.

Hatfield, 63, died on November 5 just hours before a Righteous Brothers concert.

He and his partner, Bill Medley, had hits like Unchained Melody and You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling.

"This is a shock to me," Medley told The Orange County (California) Register from his home in Newport Beach, California.

"I never saw him (use cocaine). I knew absolutely nothing about it. If I had known, I would have said something to him."

Yes. It's a hobby of mine to make thread-title puns using song names of recently deceased (or otherwise newsworthy) singers.

Actually, that UK blog entry was posted at 12:56pm Nov 6 GMT. That converts to US Pacific Time (the time of this board) 4:56pm Nov 6

You'll note I posted this thread at 11/6/03 1:52pm some 3 hours before the blogger you linked to.

    Nice try, though.

    Yes. I know.

But you're still trying to make a (humourous) point about the plagarism brouhaha in your "OMG" thread, and to do so you'd be best to find something that was written before I wrote the thread title.

The first comment on your latest link is November 15, 2003.
