I've noticed we may have not brought up Kylo's posse, the Knights of Ren yet, is there any discussion and speculation we could have about how they could relate to the mythology we have been discussing, or perhaps what they could represent for Rey and Ren, from a point of depth and narrative and what they could mean for this thread and episodes VIII & IX?

personally I don't think rey is related to obi wan as that would require faaar too much explaining to square. Plus it feels soap operaish with the whole "long lost relative that you didn't even know about." trope. Yes yes i know lucas said "its a soap opera, but GL is gone from SW. He can't hurt us anymore. SW is a safe place now.

 

I second that! Perhaps not exactly, but large chunk of it. Weren't we originally suppose to find out Rey's origins in TFA? But then it was changed quite late in the process and one of the things that was definitely changed was the forceback scene? I'd be even more convinced if it wasn't for the fact that it doesn't 100% fit timeline wise, according to Hidalgo anyway.

 

I dont actually think it would take that much explaining, I notice that is the main argument used by people who dont think she is a Kenobi, I think it's a bit weak. It could easily be explained and very quickly through very little dialogue and a series of fast flashbacks, all Luke has to do is tell her that he can sense she's a Kenobi, and we find out the rest through flashback.. It would be the exact same amount of time needed for Luke to tell her that he's her father and what happened to her and we see how she got on Jakku.

I agree. I mean if she is OB1'S grandaughter you have to explain a LOT for the casual audiences/new fans.First who Obi-Wan is. Second who his lover was. Third why he broke the Jedi Code. Fourth who his son/daughter was and where he kept them. FIFTH why his parents left their daughter on Jakku. Explaining all this could take up a lot of time! We could end up with a scene like the Architect from Matrix Reloaded!!. I think Reys origin and story will be tied to the ST and to a character directly involved in it. That could mean a character allready introduced [Luke, Snoke] or to a character yet to be introduced. Maybe Benicio or Laura Dern could be one or both of her parents. My two cents anyway..

It wouldn't be about Finn, it's about pointing someone lost back home. She already knows where he is and where he stands. <just saying>

 

The new fans that the Force Awakens have gathered now, will have time within the next 2 years to catch up on the Original Trilogy and Prequels though. That is at least how I see it anyway. If the like the film enough, they will want to watch the OT and PT.

 

Going to have to disagree with you, this is not a book, it does not need a hugely deep backstory. Casual audiences have no idea who Luke is yet he is explained easily through 3 lines of dialogue and then some flashbacks.

All Luke has to do is tell her that Obi Wan was his teacher which could easily come up in conversation with him since he will be training her, she just has to ask "who taught you?" he will say Obi Wan...I've heard they are trying to get ewan McGreggor back for episode 8, they just have to add him into a few flashbacks and there you go.

 

They look like bodies to me, but I also think the scene isn't exactly what it appears to be....I think there may be something to the idea that the Knights and Kylo were collecting "force artifacts" or "Vader artifacts" and that's why they were in this scene or engaging with that clan. I sometimes wonder whether Kylo and Rey's pasts may be intertwined and something like this seems more feasible If Rey was part of that clan and was in danger. I suppose it's possible Kylo could have spared her if the KOR were hunting force sensitives. I don't think he killed her family (at least I hope not) because I think TFA already gave her enough reason to hate him, there's no need to add to it. Also, he would have been awfully young when this happened and even less influenced by his quest to snuff his light...

I like the idea of Kylo being the one who helped/saved Rey in the past. This would make her very conflicted toward him (cut her hate) and add to their dynamic

 

Out of curiousty, could YOU explain it through little dialogue. Remember new/young audiences are watching. Can you tell me who Obi Wan is, who his lover is, who there child was, why he/she was not in the OT, where OB1's lover was during the OT. where the grandchild was after the OT. Who the other parent was. Were they also Force sensitve. And finally why they left there daughter on Jakku and left? Remember in a few words please

 

Oh, this is interesting! I never thought about this before. Now I will have to go and do some digging but do we have any information about how many Knights of Ren are there?
In the vision we saw there're seven but can there be more? And well, the first thing come to mind was the Knights of the Round Table from King Arthur, Revan has his Order of Revan
I don't know if this have anything to do with what we're discussing here but in Chinese myth but they consider 9 to be a noble numbers ( I don't know if 7 had anything to do in Chinese beliefs so far) hence the legend about the nine sons of the dragon King, they're not exactly the sons of dragon though and none of them grown into a dragon,each having his own appearance

I know so many people would love Rey to be a Skywalker and while if that's the way it goes I'll be fine with it, but hardly surprised. But if she is Luke's daughter I really don't think the Mouse House will be going with Reylo - because cousins being in love is not what they'd call a wholesome family picture.

Oh and on the subject of Luke looking at Rey with recognition - I thought he was looking at the Lightsaber not her!!!
