Thank you @ChildOfWinds and I don't think you were ranting, you just like I do seem to consider Luke to be key to the entire saga.
And yes while I would have been upset if they had killed Luke off, even if they had kept him true to his character as sometimes I think it's best just to have the heroes fly off into the sunset as it were, especially one that have stood the test of time as the OT3 had.
But they didn't do that instead it was like some what some villains say before they kill someone "it's not enough for me to kill you I want to break you first"
That's what it felt like they did in my opinion they didn't just kill Luke's body they first went and killed his soul.
But at this point I intend to just keep on as if the ST doesn't exist, or any film that takes place after Return of the Jedi for that matter.
I still have the prequels the original trilogy and Rouge One which I really do love, I really thought after that movie that they had gotten on track and figured out what they needed to do going forward. Respect what came before while adding to the galaxy, not taking stuff away like the older characters achievements and positive character traits.

Well it looks like everyone is preparing for the thread to end, it's just sad to see such a vital and strong thread go down.
It kind of brings to my mind images of the Titanic, the lights are on, the band is playing, people are still milling about on the decks, but you know the ship/thread is doomed.

Well there's nothing else to be done I guess, so I'll just make a few last points.

I ran out of time before I had to get to work yesterday so one more thing in regards to Kylo.
As others have mentioned we still have no reason for kylo to have joined the First Order, what is he hoping to accomplish?
Bring order to the galaxy? Does he just want power? We need some reason, because if we accept what they say the reason is for his turning, fake Luke trying to kill him they say then why would he join the First Order? They seem the type to try and kill each other all the time. In fact in this very movie General Hux was preparing to kill him when he was unconscious! So there be some reason as to why he joined them but we are two movies in and still don't know.

If they didn't want to give him a reason they should not have had him join willingly. They could have had him kidnapped by Imperial terrorists shortly after he was born, like they did with the stormtroopers and then years latter as part of a "peace initiative" have him be returned. Of course Han and Leia would be overjoyed by this as one or both thought he was dead, but they can see that he is "not normal" and possessing the force send him off to Luke's academy, were Luke takes him under his wing.
Over the course of time some of the older students at the academy become suspicious of his behavior and tell Luke, but Luke (using an actual flaw we have been told that he has too much "faith in his friends") does't look into it like he should.
And then when the time is right acting on the orders that Snoke had been giving him Kylo betrays the academy, and we get the ball rolling from there.
This I feel would actually make Kylo sympathetic, as he would also at that point be a child soldier raised for most of his life by the First Order.
And would make it easier to accept acts like him killing Han as he basically never knew him, but Han losing his life to try and get him to come back in spite of what he's done could make Kylo begin to question things.

Well I don't want to make this to long so I guess I will post my last thoughts tomorrow.

As for TPTB's reaction to TLJ and the fan backlash, I know one thing: For the most part, people don't say in public what they say in private, let alone what they actually think in their heads. That goes for everything. So I have a feeling that Simon Pegg's comments, for example, are the tip of a big iceberg.

Pegg has brought up that he really doesn't think (at least yet) that Tarantino is being brought in to "tear down Star Trek".

    https://trekmovie.com/2018/05/09/si...k-4-doesnt-expect-to-grow-old-playing-scotty/

I liked Beyond well enough but the backlash if you look at the audience ratings across the net was overstated for STiD. I didn't like STiD but I've concluded it's better than The Last Jedi.

    http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/945841-exclusive-simon-pegg-talks-the-next-star-trek-movie

I wonder where he'd get such a notion from. How about a certain other movie that came out recently just copied the past and crapped on it.

STiD, Unlike TLJ, is really easy to ignore. It’s my least favorite of the JJ Treks but it doesn’t ruin watching the others. I have a friend that refuses to watch the new Treks and doesn’t consider them ST, and that doesn’t affect any of her ST viewing to miss them. For me, I can’t ignore TLJ with the rest of SW. It ruins TFA, it infects comics, the story popped up in the Battlefront II campaign and ruined that for me, the new cartoon leads to it, etc. Even OT era comics are infected because they keep trying to make OT era Luke as annoying as TLJ Luke. There’s just no comparing STiD and TLJ to me.

I want to thank all of you here. This Sanctuary has truly been a sanctuary (and godsend) for me because I needed the catharsis of talking through my feelings after TLJ basically firebombed my heretofore happy-go-lucky SW fandom existance. I mean, way back when I thought Phantom Menace sucked but it didn`t destroy the core of SW to me.

If I accept TLJ into my canon, this would do it so I can only view as some "dark world" Disney AU. Where everything went wrong.

Not sure if I`ll be around after this threat closes because I still can`t read something like "the genius of Rian Johnson was in doing ..." without starting to twitch - I find nothing genious about his storytelling choices, 2/3 of this movie played out without any fan goggles on (the "we`re out of gas" and "lets save horsies" plots) and those bored me to tears and I`m not gonna applaud the movie for having a few bits of nice cinematography (it had a 200 Million budget, what was I supposed to expect? Plan 9 from Outer Space looks?). I can`t seriously be expected to credit a big budget movie to look like a big budget movie. Woohoo. And the camera work and shots weren`t that great either. They were competent for the size of the movie`s budget, no less, no more. Besides, that is like a low 2 on my priority list, far far under characters and story.

Right now I`m so totally off the ST. It`s a complete bust for me. And unless I read perfect spoilers for episode 9 around Christmas next year, I will not see episode 9.

So big =D==D==D= to all the wonderful fellow dissenters here.

With this thread ending soon, thank you all for the posts here and the discussions that came from them.

Hopefully IX is a superior film with less problems and division amongst fans then TLJ gave us.

It’s difficult for me to believe anything people say in Hollywood about upcoming movies. It’s always really flattering because they’re in the business of marketing.

Personally, I’m a QT fan and I don’t think he can do worse than Star Trek Nemesis either way. Most modern Star Trek is so far off from the original concept that I don’t really care if he totally deconstructs it or not.

Although, to bring it back to TLJ, they were always very clear that this was “Rian Johnson’s story.” They delivered in that respect. RJ got to play with the toys for a full episode. Now JJ has them back.

This thread has been great, it has really kept me engaged ever since December. I’ve never used this forum so much and so consistently, even though I’ve been a member since 2004.

I started using Reddit a few weeks ago and subscribed to the saltierthancrait subreddit - it has a similar vibe to this place, it isn’t an echo chamber or a place full of rants, it is full of genuine fans who respect Star Wars and can see right through the ST nonsense we’ve been served up. I know some are on there already, but I hope more if you join! If you do, I’m on there as JDNM.

I expect my participation on this forum to plummet, especially as I won’t be able to speak my mind adequately. As far as I’m concerned, TLJ is a trash fire and deserves to be treated as such. It’s difficult to talk constructively about something you have contempt for.

Although I only know you guys by your avatars, it has been great to see your names pop up daily in posts, likes and quotes. This thread has really spawned a community and it’s a shame it has to end.
