Announced on page 64 of Star Wars Insider #159, Star Wars: Chewbacca will be a comic miniseries written by Gerry Duggan, illustrated by Phil Noto, and set after the destruction of the first Death Star. The first issue is expected for release in October and kicks into gear when Chewie crash-lands on a hostile Imperially-occupied planet. Zarro, a young feisty girl in need, is among those who make a temporary alliance with the stranded Wookiee as her heroics take her in over her head. On an interesting note, there will be no translations for readers when Chewie speaks!
Hmm, interesting gimmick. That could be interesting and make it feel truer to the films, but it could also result in a lot of contrived dialogue so the readers know what's going on.
Dahh! Whole comic series of Chewie kicking ass and roaring, nice! This would officially Make Marvel's Star Wars comic count in October for 5 series, oh my (Star Wars, Darth Vader, Shattered Empire, Kanan & Chewie. Unless Chewie gets bounced to November after Shattered Empire. Also possible)
Chewie's frustration at the other people not being able to understand him, as well as his deep and philosophical musing on life...
Awesomesauce. More Noto is always good, and it's great that Chewie is getting his own story this early into NuCanon. Sounds low key, but hopefully we'll get some good characterisation for the big guy. Also edited the title to avoid confusion with the older DH Chewbacca mini-series.
Mtv.com (for some reason) is up with an official announcement now. I wonder if this thread forced their hand.
This will likely be taking place about the same time that Heir to the Jedi did. In HttJ they did mention that Han and Chewie were off doing something but can't remember the specifics. How detailed was HttJ with Han and Chewie's activities?
Cool, wonder who the old acquaintances will be? I hope the series goes to kashyyyk at some point, would be wicked to see Noto illustrate the wookie forest.
Uhh, have we even seen Kashyyk in the new canon yet (excluding episode III of course)? I don't think so, it was nowhere in the clone wars (there was this unfinished kashyyk thing though, but it was far from finished, only ABIT story reel.) Also, won't this series begin after Shattered Empire? Because this is how the system of mini series have been so far: Leia starts Lando strats the week after Leia ends I believe Lando ends the same day that shattered empire gets released and shattered empire may end when chewie gets released so yeaahhhh, thats the mini series.
Nice to see Phil on a Chewbacca comic. I hope this is the first of several Star Wars titles he illustrates.
