Focus - Jaina Solo. Kyp Durron. Cenev Maganna

Summary - Jaina Solo is torn between her feelings for Kyp Durron, and those for her old friend Cenev Maganna

Spoilers- NJO (up to Rebirth)

I would just like to add that I do own any characters connected to the Invincible smuggling group as well as the locations in the Domain. All other characters and places are owned by Lucasfilm.

Jaina Solo stalked through the corridors of the Errant Venture, a quiet anger burning within her. As she walked into the main gallery, she spotted Kyp Durron sitting in the far corner. He glanced up from his meal, dark eyes watching her with a calm interest.

Jaina ignored the man, still angered by what had taken place on Sernpidal, and by how easily she had been led to believe what Kyp had been saying. Not long after she had arrived on the Venture and gotten settled in, Kyp and his remaining Dozen had shown up. Kyp had said that it was because he had wished to talk to the Great Jedi Master, Jaina?s uncle, Luke Skywalker. But even after he had done so, he still hadn?t left.

Jaina wished he would.

After grabbing some food, she dropped into a seat beside her twin brother, Jacen, who had only arrived the day before with their parents.

?You still upset?? He asked, looking up at her.

?You bet I am.? Jaina could feel Kyp?s eyes on the back of her head. ?I just wish he would just take off, and take his Dozen with him.?

?I agree.? Jacen picked at his food. ?I saw Ben this morning.?

Jaina grinned, Kyp forgotten, at the mention of her baby cousin. ?He?s beautiful, isn?t he.?

?Yeah. I wonder why Uncle Luke and Aunt Mara never said anything to us in the early days.?

?I guess they had they?re reasons.?

Jacen frowned. ?Anakin?s almost here.? The frown deepened, faint traces of anger and concern threading into it. ?And Kyp?s coming over.?

Jaina spotted her younger brother, Anakin, as he stepped into the gallery, Tahiri Veila just behind. He waved over to them, before moving toward the food. Jaina was about to comment to Jacen about how Tahiri continued to accompany Anakin everywhere, when a shadow feel over the table.

?Jaina, I need to speak with you.?

Jacen glared at the man standing beside his sister. ?Go away, Kyp. We?re eating.?

?I can see that,? Kyp replied calmly. ?But it?s your sister that I asked to speak with, not you.?

Jaina turned to look at the Jedi Master. ?If we talk, will you leave the Venture??

?Maybe.? He smiled his roguish smile, and Jaina felt her stomach knot. ?Only one way to find out now, isn?t there.?

She glanced sideways as Jacen. ?Be back in a minute.?

Thanks! I've almost never written mush before. Ever wonder why it's taken me so long to get to it? That's the reason.


EDIT: I have a few socks. About the only one I ever use now is Q9-03, though. He's my astromech droid that's addicted to donuts.

 

That was a good start, although I hope that Jain will end up with Kyp. Someone else who's on my side?

I have many, many posts on my hard drive waiting to come up, so I might put up a few today.

As for Jaina and Kyp ending up together... just wait till you meet Cenev before you make any decisions.

Kyp led her to one of the garden rooms. Despite the fact that they were at war, Booster Terrik had made sure that his ship remained inviting to guests and his crew alike. This particular room was filled with a vast selection of ferns from different planets. A small waterfall ran down one wall, creating a relaxing, even peaceful atmosphere.

Kyp came to a halt in one corner of the room, out of view from the doorway, and sat on the bench there. He gestured for Jaina to sit beside him, but she remained standing.

?I know you?re angry at me,? Kyp said. ?And I know why. But surely you understand why I did what I did.?

?No.? Jaina replied curtly. ?What I know is that many good pilots died, thanks to you. That the New Republic no longer trusts you? and neither do I.?

Kyp frowned. ?Jaina-?

?You lied to me,? Jaina cut in. ?You made me believe what you wanted me to believe, then made me help you lie to everyone else.?

Kyp half rose. ?That?s not fair.?

?No one knows whether to trust me anymore, thanks to you.? Jaina clenched her fists. ?So how can I trust you, after what you did to me? Well??

Kyp sank back onto the seat, looking calmly up at her. ?Feel better??

?No.?

Kyp leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees. ?What we did, Jaina, was destroy a worldship. By doing so, we crippled the Vong. Surely you can see the good in that.?

Jaina crossed her arms. ?One worldship. One ?empty? worldship. All we did was kick them in the shin. They?ll bruise, but it won?t do anything to stop them. Or slow them down for that matter.?

Kyp frowned. ?Well at least I?m ?doing? something, while everyone sits back and wonders who will be next. I make it my business to find out ?exactly? who is next, and try to save them.? His frown deepened, spite entering his voice. ?All everyone else does is feel sorry for the victim, and start pointing fingers as to whose fault it was and why they fell so easily.?

Jaina looked down at him, realizing where he was going. ?Let me guess. Its usually you who they blame.?

He nodded. ?Either myself, your parents, your Uncle, or one of the other Jedi, including yourself and your brothers. But I always seem to be at the top of the list.?

Jaina slid down onto the bench. ?Why??

His smile was filled with irony. ?Because I?m a figurehead. Because of my past. And mostly because of Carida, I guess.? He spread his hands in wide gesture. ?If I can mark the ruin and destruction of one planet, why not them all??

Jaina was surprised to find that her anger had vanished, and that it was now replaced by pity. ?That?s not fair.?

?That?s what they do.? Kyp sighed, running a hand through his short, dark hair. ?To be honest, I don?t know how much longer I can keep fighting before everyone stops shooting at the Vong, and starts taking pot-shots at me and the Dozen. I?m starting to think it?s hopeless.?

Jaina reached out and touched his hand. ?You can?t give up, Kyp. None of us can. So what if the galaxy doesn?t like you that much. They never have, so why should things change now? We need you.?

Kyp looked up at her, a kindly smile spreading across his lips. ?You?re all grown up, Jaina. You?ve inherited the wisdom of your family.? He touched her cheek. ?And the beauty of your mother.?

Before she could reply, he leaned forward and kissed her. At first she was stunned, then she pulled back, and slapped him hard across the face, leaving the imprint of a hand.

?How dare you,? she hissed, lurching to her feet. ?Never, ever, do that again.? She spun on her heal, and stormed out of the room.

Kyp touched his cheek, winced, and smiled. ?Well, it was worth it.?

On the bridge, Booster Terrik spotted the incoming ship, and called out to the man watching the scanners. Upon hearing the mans reply as to exactly what the ship was, and the code given, Booster turned to where his son-in-law stood, deep in thought.

?Look?s like your favourite Jedi Knight?s nephew has come to visit.? The smile widened. ?Or perhaps, it is more accurate to say, that he is your favourite student.?

Corran Horn looked up, a curious look glistening in his green eyes. ?You don?t mean Blade, do you??

Booster nodded, then gestured to the fast approaching starfighter, its sleek, unmarked hull glistening gold as it swooped smoothly around the Venture?s nose toward the docking bay. Corran grinned, and stepped quickly from the room, eager to meet the young pilot.

Jaina stepped into the small lounge, and found her brothers, parents, Aunt, Uncle, and Tahiri already there. She moved toward Jacen, spotting Booster entering from the other door out of the corner of her eye.

?What?s wrong?? Jacen asked, seeing her. ?You look worked up.?

?You won?t believe me if I told you.?

?Try me.?

Jaina opened her mouth to answer, but was cut off by Mara?s sharp exclamation.

?You mean to tell me you just let this?guest? on board, without even getting a name?? Mara glared at Booster. ?I thought you were supposed to be protecting us!?

Luke touched her hand. ?Easy Mara. You?re still not healed properly.?

Mara glared at him.

Booster sighed. ?Corran?s gone to meet him. They?ll be here shortly.?

?What!?? Mara cried. ?First you bring this guy on board, now you?re leading him straight to us?!??

?Mara-?

?Shut up, Skywalker.?

The sound of voices in the corridor cut the conversation short. Corran?s laugh echoed toward them, followed by more murmuring. Corran stepped into the room, grinning, glanced at Luke, and jerked a thumb behind him.

?Guess who dropped in for a visit, Luke,? he said, chuckling. ?I bet you can?t recognise him.?

?He won?t.?

Behind Corran, a young man stepped into the room, black cloak swirling around him. Brandy eyes sparkled, and just above shoulder length wavy brown hair fell around his face, giving the impression of being carefree, and a little roguish. His smile was heart stopping. He was of a thin build, but a power radiated off him, both physically, and through the Force.

His face still held the boyishness of an adolescent, and all in the room felt drawn to him in a way that they had only felt twice before.

The young man grinned at Luke. ?Can you place me yet, Master Skywalker??

Luke?s forehead creased with concentration. ?I know you. But I?m afraid I can?t place you.?

Everyone else, apart from Corran, Booster, and Tahiri, nodded their agreement. Corran laughed, and Booster smiled.

The man glanced at Corran. ?I told you. There?s only really one besides yourself, who?d be able to pick me. Only he?s not in the room.?

Tahiri straightened. ?I don?t think I?ve ever seen you before. Who are you??

The young man nodded. ?I certainly do not know you, no. Forgive me.? He bowed gracefully. ?I am Jedi Knight, Ceneveran Rio Forwin Maganna.?

A gasp echoed across the room. Jaina felt like someone had punched her in the gut. She stared at the man, realizing just how much he had changed in 6 years.

?Cenev?? She said softly in disbelief. ?Cenev Maganna??

He nodded, eyes sparkling. ?Hard to believe, isn?t it. I thought that perhaps you would remember me, Jaina, after what we went through. I certainly remember you.? He glanced from Jacen to Anakin. ?And I could never forget you two troublemakers.?

?You were the one that got us into trouble,? Jacen protested.

?You didn?t have to follow me.?

?You?re older.?

?Only by a year, runt.?

?Who you calling a runt??

Han laughed. ?Some things never change.? He stood and clasped Cenev?s hand. ?How are you, kid?? He spotted the circles of silver around the man?s wrists. ?And how?s the group??

Cenev chuckled. ?Yes, I?m a smuggler now. A fully-fledged member of the Invincibles. Third in charge in fact. Third only to my dear Aunt, and a certain Corellian.? He sobered. ?I?m good, Han. I?ve missed you. As has Aunt Clara.?

Han nodded. ?Tell her that I miss her too. Things have been quiet around here since the Invincibles left. How are your parents? The others??

?We?re all fine,? he glanced at Leia. ?And Dad hasn?t shut up yet about you, Leia. You must have made quite an impression.?

Leia shrugged. ?We already knew each other from Alderaan. He was the little boy that used to leave flowers on my doorstep as soon as he was old enough to walk.? She smiled faintly. ?Being 10 years younger then me, I doubt it would of worked out.?

?Where?ve you been?? Anakin asked, awe in his voice. ?You?re a Knight??

?Yes, I?m a Knight. Have

 

That was good and long.
But I personally think Cenev is just a younger Kyp. Wasn't Zekk, too?
Anyway, didn't Kyp have rather long hair? There are pics on sw.com, for example...
My last commen might sound narrow-minded, but I really am stuck with the idea of J/K and the third one beeing Jag. Anything else tends to depress me. And I've had enough of that with Anakin Solo...

Ha! I loved when Kyp kissed Jaina he got slaped for it. That was a great touch. I'm also glad that Jag isn't involved. I like the character fine, but it's great to read something different for a change.

And no, SWMara, Zekk is NOT a younger version of Kyp. If he was, I'd like him. Wurth Skidder was a younger, blonde version of Kyp. He was one of my favorite characters...
