    New Discussion Question:

We've already seen some of this along with the avatar-maker posts and drawings, so...

Make up a casting list for your original characters -- as many of them as you like. Pick your actors by resemblance, by their acting skills and previous roles, by their voice as though you're casting an animated feature -- any or all of the above! :D

    Challenge Update/Reminder:

We are now up to three entries! [face_dancing] If you're participating, be sure to PM the link for your story by November 2. There is now only one week until the deadline. Good luck!

Voting time will be from November 3-17.

Ooh. Total distraction from working on my challenge/update.

And after some consideration, I'd have to say the part of Katya Starstar goes to ....Abigail Breslin. Arguably she's quite a bit younger than the actor who played/plays opposite her and that might make them an odd pairing, BUT Abigail's maturing and Katya would have to be played by an actress who can pull off non-flashiness/modesty of heart, introspection, a sassy happiness, and the solidness of some character weight. Also, she needs to play against her opposite in a really specific way, and I think if she played up the maturity to match the actor she'd be with, it could possibly create just the right dynamic. Katya's definitely an adult role but I bet if not now, in a few years Abigail could totally do it.

I'm still thinking about Nhala because she's from the humanoid Tilasan race, making looks less important. I'm not sure I've even figured out exactly how Tilasans look. I have more of a sense of their feel/their culture. For this reason, I would probably choose a foreign actress to bring out the exotic/"different" aspect. Nobody's coming to mind yet.

This is such a good group of stories! I enjoyed reading every one. And I'm really going to have to step up my game. Lol.

Every one of them showed a really unique talent, and I learned from reading them, too. Fantastic group to be with!

Now as soon as I send my vote in, I'll be ghosting for a little bit. ;)

It was a great group of stories this time around.

Your story was excellent as well, even though the deadline has passed I'd very much like to see it finished :D

Findswoman: Yes, everyone is encouraged to vote for their favorite story. You don't have to be one of the writers. Ideally, it would be great to have as many readers voting as possible. :) PM your vote to this sock whenever you're ready.

Okay. After thinking of this over and over for nearly two weeks, I came up with the following.

Ayesha Eskari - Irene Pappas in her younger years (she must be nearly a hundred years old now), for her strong Mediterranean features, her deeper-than-average voice and the various tragic roles she played.

Tashi Marath - Marina Aslanoglou. For some undefinable reason I can very well imagine Aslanoglou as a Sullustan with a fancy hairdo :)

Lamtee Plohwell - Gérard Philipe, for his 1950s French charm and magical, slightly nasal voice (you can listen to him here reading "The Little Prince")

Nazmat Koch - Judi Dench. I'm not going to try to justify that, no one should ever have to justify themselves when referring to Judi Dench :p

Chyntuck I very much see this in the way you wrote her. Fantastic job.

The dice throw is because I didn't know what it was and had to press to button to see. Guess it's for games. lol.

You know, for Koch I was also imagining a very short-haired version of Maggie Smith--sort of a biker-chick version of Smith. But Judi Dench works great too. And you're right, there is a certain species of British actress that one should never have to justify oneself about. :D

You know, I did actually think of Maggie Smith because of the obvious Professor McGonagall reference, but there's this slightly quavering quality to her voice that I don't like so much and she's far too tall to be Nazmat Koch. Plus, Judi Dench already has the perfect haircut :p (Did I mention in the fic that NK has short hair?) But the ideal actress would be somewhere in-between. I don't know, maybe a mcgonagallized version of M?

I'm going to take this opportunity to say again how much I love this thread. These discussion questions are very helpful to flesh out OCs -- I hadn't figured out what Tashi and Lamtee look like before this topic came up, and having a clearer idea about that gave me ideas to rewrite an entire chapter where they appear, even if they only get to say two sentences each. Thanks OCDatabaseSock [:D]

I only just started Red Fang, so my ideas are based on your challenge entry. To me Shattered had this The Longest Day feel to it, so I kinda pictured Tyran and Rixa as characters from that film. I can imagine Rixa as Christian Marquand, the actor who plays the French commander in the attack on the Ouistreham casino, because he's a commando leader who has doubts about his strategy when he sees his men being killed, but who then goes and fetches a tank single-handedly to put an end to the battle (here's a video of that bit). I can also imagine Tyran as Richard Burton in the role of the cynical British pilot who's the only survivor from his squadron and keeps fighting on (okay, also because he has class :p). There's also a scene towards the end of the film where he's been shot down and fell into the garden of a German officer who's wearing his boots on the wrong foot, and he's joking very coldly and ruthlessly about the boots as he looks at the corpse.

Given the sort of fics you write I'm pretty confident that you'd find a cast in WWII movies, for male OCs at least. There aren't many warrior women types in there, unless you go into Soviet cinema ;)

Chyntuck I did plan on doing a chronicling of the Yuuzhan Vong war in a Band Of Brothers type of format. Sadly I scratched the idea in favor of a direct sequel to Red Fang. But maybe I'll revisit the idea after the sequel as a round robin format with multiple authors to focus on different characters.

For the "casting" question, y'all are going to get sick of me not naming names, but I'm really wanting to keep them (mostly) to myself for now. :p

This fancasting isn't complete, but these are the characters I have locked down at the moment. Even still, go with the caveat that these aren't exactly as I picture these people.

My NR era Jedi master most closely resembles Kate Winslet (good choice leiamoody). First, as a young woman, then as an adult dealing with some difficult choices.

One of two antagonists looks like Ben Browder from Farscape. His fellow antagonist is not a character I've entirely fleshed out yet, so I have no casting for him.

My NR Jedi is a blonde Bonnie Wright (photoshopping my own) as a young girl who slowly morphs into Jessica Chastain over time.

The aforementioned NR Jedi's husband is something of a hybrid between James McAvoy and Tom Hiddleston. And yes, both were partly selected because they happen to have been in a film with / photographed next to Ms. Chastain. But then again, I think she could probably have chemistry with a phone book. FWIW, here are how I imagine my two OCs from "True Blue" looking and why.

First: Breha Amidala Solo – Nina Drobev, Canadian actress from The Vampire Diaries (nope, never watched it.)

She kind of has that “Carrie Fisher” look to her. She looks youthful and sweet. Bree is a little naive, but she is intelligent, kind and stronger than she gives herself credit for.

Second: Doc Blue - Takeshi Kaneshiro, Japanese actor/singer. (Just imagine blue hair and indigo eyes.) This is a younger picture as the actor himself is now in his forties and Blue is only 25.

Blue is kind and intelligent, but he is haunted by his past.

    So there you go. :p
