ST Official Sequel Trilogy / Legends / Expanded Universe discussion thread

SOTJ will be a trilogy of novels, and the last book will be released in 2015, so, i only can see those novels as how the current EU fixes itself to fit with the EPVII, in 2015, almost every release (of book, video game or comic) will be orbiting the EPVII, just like happened with every episode of the PT.

 

I was under the impression that the Sword of the Jedi novels where either canceled or on indefinate hold just like the video game 1313. I also recalled hearing that anything slated for post 2013 release was canceled and the first Sword of the Jedi book was a 2014 release.

Just spent 10 minutes peaking around the net to see if what I recalled was correct but I cant seem to find anything definitive one way or another on those books beyond stuff posted before Disney's takeover of LFL was announced, so speculating anything based on there release becoming cannon seems suspect to me. It really depend how close those novels and Lucas' drafts for ep 7 line up imho, then how far Disney is willing to bend the drafts and/or the upcoming books outlines to tie them into each other. I'm more cautious then you, I believe, since I think Disney will bend the drafts by Lucas a bit to get EU characters that fit and work into the plot but I doubt they'll take all the plot that set up the Sword of the Jedi novels and change Lucas' drafts to that degree just so they can sell some books that the EU set up since the movies will be far more profitable, and after all they can make new Disney Star Wars EU books just as easily and make money from the books that way too.

 

yes, was moved for 2014, that asures us that these series WILL be orbiting the ST.
I agree with you about Disney and the EU, but i dont think that the ST will try to fit with SOTJ, but SOTJ try to fit the ST.

 

Hmmm... I can see them wanting to do that but this is JJ Abrams we're talking about. The guy wont even reveal if Khan is in Star Trek Into Darkness or not, so unless Disney and/or Kathleen Kenedy out ranks him and desides to edit SotJ novel to set up the ST I just dont see the novel setting up the ST but ending the post RotJ EU instead. After all what if Chewie is alive in the movie or Jacen never went DS or Luke remained single and never had a son named Ben with Mara or Jaina now being single again due to Jedi not being allowed to marry or there being no Imperial Remenenat, etc... It would just be too jarring form the books previous set up for it to really be about Jaina's EU past and would require a title change imho. Or What if Mace Windu or Ahsoka is found alive in it, it really wouldnt be about the Sword of the Jedi, aka Jaina Solo, at all again either then but about ep 7. So I cant see proof of it setting up ep 7 just by its continued existence since it could mean way too many other things too. BTW what is your source saying its still a go... somehow on my own searching I missed it (btw please proove it was info that was released after The Disney buying LFL, else it just might be old data)

That said I'd love for it to do what you suggest, I'd love even more if it retcons Chewie and Mara's deaths (and maybe Anakins Solo's too but only if they change his name) since imho they are characters just too good to waste soley due to a book killing them off (especially since in all cases they where a bit contrived to say the least). I wouldnt mind it at all if Jacen was still alive too, though his death wasnt that bad... just his whole fall was clearly a copy of Vader and as such was good for uber EU book fans but likely wouldnt sell to the general public who'd treat it like the second death star and just roll their eyes. As stated I see tons of potential for quite a few post RotJ character who just got stuck in some very poor novels but whos potential outshinned those horrible plots. On the other hand I'd be a bit upset if they kept it too close to the entire EU as a whole just for the sake of some books plot over the Lucas drafts (excluding EU characters entering his drafts and maybe a few better EUplots/character backgrounds becoming cannon, since I want new and improved stories).

However you do bring up an interesting point maybe either some future book (be it SotJ or not) or maybe The Clone Wars tv show will give us some of our first teases/hints/spoilers about episode 7. Time shall tell

 

I doubt this very much. I haven't heard about Sword of the Jedi being delayed and I suspect Del Rey won't be very interested in putting such a large part of the universe on the shelf until 2015.

I mean they(LFL) already made the decision to not write new TCW era novels until events from TCW got hashed out so they could avoid contradictions. Now if they add the post ROTJ stuff to the list there is almost nothing left.

Also note that Dark Horse isn't stopping anything and is going forward with a new post ROTJ series.

Ah! So, Sword of the Jedi is still coming? That's good news, because I was looking forward to reading them when I first heard about it.

 

I'm more intrigued by the new Legacy comic ..... please say we're still getting that?

I find it strange that they're keeping her actual relationship to Han and Leia other than the fact she is their great-great grandaughter under wraps.
Jaina's descendant in the Legacy era would be Marisiah Fel, Ben Skywalker's are Kol and Cade.
As a Solo Ania would have to be descended from Jacen, Jaina or Anakin and Jacen's only child Allana is the only one still carrying the family name.
With all that in mind one might presume there is going to be a mystery grandchild of Han and Leia's written into the backstory or Ania would have been stated as Allana's grandaughter wouldn't she?

 

It has never been explicitly confirmed that Marasiah Fel is related to the Solos.

 

That's a good point, though I think it's strongly hinted.
There's definitely aspects of both Jaina and Leia in her character, like when Draco says he loves her .... "I know".

 

I cannot see the SOTJ coming out - unless it's a prelude to EP7 if not - it will on hold by Disney & won't be released before EP7 -if SOTJ has nothing to do with EP7 it would be far to confusing to release it especially if EP7 contradicts it & alot of the EU before it ........

I would like to see a Discovery of uncharted parts of the Galaxy or perhaps a different Galaxy

The Planet is close to the source of the Force, where all life originated from

On a world where all the people are born with the Force

The Dominant Race of people there dont yet have the concept of good & evil, it never dawns on them that there are people who train Force abilities, or people who hunger for more power.. for them they believe they are born with it

They live a peaceful & very naive life somewhat like a Druid, where their gardening often involves using the force to Shape trees to their will, and Collectively move mountains & build Temples through the force

they are physically very weak and are always robed..

there is another, weaker race on the planet, who have tremendous Strength & Fighting Skill, they train tirelessly day & night in the Ancient Arts, Arts which existed long before even the Kotor Warriors..

They have Yoda-like capabilities of spinning & jumping & maneuvering... they throw with Shinobi-like accuracy, and use the vines & world around them for transport, strength, training, Protection, Defense, & Shelter... but they are all without the force.. they are unaware that the force is something that can be trained or obtained.. they believe that such power only belongs to the Race of Force Users, as their own inherent Power, of their race

The race of Force Users are somewhat oppressive of the warrior race, and the Force users gather in great force-filled caves & temples to collectively tap into the psychic energies of the world around them, which has a detrimental effect on the non-force using race, and sometimes they go so far as to force Mind-coerce them into serving their best interests..

unbeknownst to all, there is a cave one of the force users finds, who is slightly troubled & rebellious and who is in love with one of the native girls.. in the cave he finds ancient carvings not discovered in millenia, which teach him things and open his mind to the story of their ancestors and the rebellion which took place on that planet long before recorded history, which none have memory of... it talks of the struggle between good & evil, and about the dark side of the force, and its pathways, and about a rebellion which took place, and one deceived many, and took most of the Race of force users with him and left the planet causing destruction in a thirst for power in the darkest side of the force ever to have existed.. and a small group of inherently very good members struggled against them, and began to use light side of the force, which had thereto been unknown, and unneeded..

the battle was completely fought within the force, with Lightsabers not existing, nor did any of them have the strength to fight physically..

and both light and dark had vanished from the world without a trace...

after reading the entire story, he realizes the cave & the Tablets were Forged by darkness, and within them were hidden some very dark & very powerful dark-side objects, the bearer of which could use to conquer worlds & enslave millions and know a type of power never before imagined ..

Perhaps the leader didnt escape, but was put to death, but not before laying the pathway for another to find.. or perhaps he was somehow immortal, and was imprisoned in the cave for all eternity

at any rate, the young man takes to spending he says practicing the dark arts, and things begin to fall apart in society, for both races.. he flees the planet, or he uses his very wise and devious hidden intent to convince the people what is wrong is right, deceiving them all and leading them away in rebellion against all who would not succumb to his power..

there is no neutral, its all out war, every soul must choose a side, a path & a destiny

and another group barely escapes with their lives, and they hide among the Native Warrior Race, and train to use their Style of Fighting, and they train the Warrior race to use the force, which they find very natural and easy, and they become very strong in the force, especially the young ones..

and they fall in love with each other, and intermarry, and raise children with both abilities..

and along the way, they find a cave filled with Light-Side Power they have never known or experienced before..

they forge force-weapons which are not light sabers, but something similar.. made from metals, Crystals, & Other rare materials which hold force energy and become lethal

the battle all but destroys their home world and they travel to a nearby planet through a Force Portal in a cave which leads them to an advanced & Peaceful civilization with much technology & Spaceships, but whos inhabitants were unaware of the force conduit linking the two worlds

there they meet other races for the first time, including some very interesting characters..

little did they know, the darkness of their home world also had a conduit which led to a different planet, one filled with criminals, bounty hunters, and evil of all kind, whos inhabitants also had no idea of the existence of the force portal that must have been used many many millenia ago by their ancestors

and they each begin building allies, the Dark side quickly take control of the evil planet, other star systems soon follow, and they become ruthless & powerful rulers who enslave gifted young children into training in the dark arts by assassinating their entire families.. they raise armies, attempting to take control of the entire Galaxy

whilst the light side is embraced and introduced to other civilized worlds where they become esteemed politicians, respected counselors, & highly valued spiritual leaders, who discover that many of the very young children of those worlds can be taught the force.. they train soldiers, build defenses, and prepare for the impending war...

 

before departing, the Dark Forces enslave a number of the Native Warrior Tribes who eventually go on to become Assassins, Bounty Hunters, Gamblers & other Scoundrel.. many of whom are trained in the dark side of the force, which power they have never known before and guard jealously, willing to keep & build power at all costs

the Light Forces take with them the remainder of the Warrior Tribes who they continue to train with in great Temples in other worlds, many of whom become Guardians, Defenders, Protectors, Ambassadors, Negotiators, Diplomats, & Peace Keepers

 

Both sides begin to Improve their Force Weapons using the Technology from the new worlds around them, and combining that with the Force-Imbued Crystals & Other Objects & Force Powers they brought with them..

Both sides on a constant search to find more Force Sensitive areas & Caves and Obtain Crystals & Other Force Objects, in a race to turn the Galaxy into Their Side of the Force

Where the Dark-Side finds a Crystal Caves, they become caves of Dark Powers, and the entire planet becomes wholly Controlled by the Dark Side and the inhabitants become corrupted, evil desolate, depraved, dark & hopeless..

Where the Light Side finds them first, they are saved and filled with Light and the Force in the Cave becomes adhered to the Light, and becomes "Light-Side" force, and the planet flourishes with life & vibrance, and the people are filled with knowledge, truth Learning, Love & Light

and along the way, both sides receive help from the ancient ancestors, who left clues, and Force abilities & Other Force items.. who fought a similar battle millenia ago as they left their homeworld through those same portals

we could get shadows of the empire into animated movie but I am not saying its going to happen yet!!!!

EDIT this is old news but I will try to find some new ones soon and a Yoda film is not happing but Standalone films are happing.!!!!

 

12 issues a year, first issue was January 2013. Logically, that suggests Dark Horse is confident to late 2014, right? I don't know if that necessarily dispels Marvel rumors, unless there was something solid in the past about Dark Horse's contract ending in 2013. But it definitely suggests that 2013 isn't the last year for Star Wars at Dark Horse! And yay, 20 issues of Brian Wood writing Leia!
