That depends on your definition of "latest," as you left out the Gosling / Efron rumors from July.

As an addendum to your great post, I offer a list of characters rumored to have had actors read for:

- Luke's son (a part with more than one actor rumored to have read for)
- Leia (later changed to "and Han's") daughter (again, with more than one actress rumored to have read)
- Cumberbatch's Sith lord
- 'Female villain'
- Not verified, but speculated to be Lando's son (2 actors rumored to have read)

Other than rumored returning characters like Palpatine and Obi-Wan - and the obvious (Big3) - I think this covers all of the rumored characters with actor/actresses specifically attached to them. I'm purposely leaving out rumors like Jonathon Rhys Meyers and Florence Welch, as these rumors contained no specific characters.

Am I forgetting any other characters from actual published rumors (as opposed to characters fans have been speculating on, such as Plagueis)?

 

Depending on the role the 70 year old needs to play/fill, Scott Wilson might be a good choice

Yeah, totally. The Palace of Caserta and the Villa del Balbianello in Italy, both built in the 18th century, and the Plaza de España in Spain, which was built in the Interbellum, both look way too new & shiny.

 

BC can pull off both good and bad. As long as he can play a character that's slightly unhinged. He always nails that sort of role.

 

Man JJ better look at some of the actors he's already worked with... especially the guy played Sawyer.





This guy would easily be able to be the next generation Han Solo. I think they even referred to him as Solo on Lost if i'm not mistaken.

LFL has been attempting this since the late '70s when they cast Billy Dee Williams. Plus, you don't get much more diverse than numerous alien species that have populated the films over the decades.

 

Billy Dee was cast because Lucas drank Colt 45.

With all this talk of Cumberbatch being cast as a Sith Lord or at least a villain, it got me thinking... And strangely enough, after remembering his performance as William Pitt in Amazing Grace, I'd see him more as a wisened Jedi (like Mace Windu) or military type (like Carlist Rieekan), using his considerable expertise and knowledge to help defeat the enemy, with crazy plans and/or battle meditation techniques that only he can pull off. In short, a bit like Obi-Wan in the PT, getting sent to all the sensitive situations across the GFFA which need his unique set of talents to be resolved.

Or at least, make him an undercover agent à la Viggo in Eastern Promises. That was utterly badass.

Well, not exactly. Reading the Gosling/Efron report, it was stated that there was no knowledge of which role Efron was to have read for, only that he had read for a role in VII (and that Gosling was "definitely" reading for Luke's son). The reporter then said that if he were to hazard a guess, that maybe it was for a Solo.

 

El Mayimbe said last night on the Schmoes Know Podcast that Efron is out.
