Maybe... His loss was a necessary loss. Soon we will have a new sword stunt coordinator, one far younger and more powerful.

 

He's going to wander the Earth and save people like David Carradine from Kung-Fu.

 

Good, bring someone new in, see what they can bring to the table.

 

This makes me wonder if it's yet another signal of an attempt to return to the aesthetic of the OT. Also the way he said "very very unlikely" makes me curious about whether there could be some bad blood between Gillard and someone involved. Has he ever worked with Abrams?

 

Its not one or the other. If they don't make all the fights look like PT ones doesn' tmean their only other option is to look like OT ones.

I hope they bring in the Three Stooges for fight choreography.

 

Too bad. Gillard did good work. But doubtless they'll find someone good. Look at the countless amazing swordfighting movies out there...some choreographer somewhere is dying for this job.

 

Sad for Nick but not that bummed. New style! Alright!

ROTJ FTW! I love the struggle when 2 lightsabers connect and they try to push the other away. Or ESB on the catwalk at the end before Vader tells Luke "You are beaten, it is useless to resist, Don't let yourself be destroyed as Obi-Wan did.

 

It would be good to see a mix of both the PT and OT duel's, I thought the duels in the PT lacked the passion and emission that the OT duels had but the OT's lacked the choreography of the PT duels. Perhaps Ray Park would make a good choreographer for the ST? It would be good to see that Luke has fully mastered the lightsaber since the OT

I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again, this is the how the fights should look.



Entertaining and fun to watch while also conveying a sense of weight and mean and danger into every move. Its "fancy" but nothing that looks like a waisted movement. There are lots of quick cuts to increase the sense of speed, urgency and danger, but you're never lost and can always tell whats going on. Most impressively enough, the fight itself tells a story, Guy clearly has the advantage early on and is being more aggressive and Balin spend the fight slowly chopping him down until he has him on his knees. Fight scenes that use the action to tell a story rather then show people clashing are always more interesting and more intense. They feel more like a fight and less like an demonstration.

The two people who choreographed Kingdom of Heaven were Simon Atherton (also worked on Gladiator, Bourne Ultimatum and V for Vendetta) and CC Smiff (who also worked on Gladiator and Game of Thrones)

Well as long as there isn't any horrific shaky-cam during the fight scenes, I'm game.

 

I actually didn't mind that and in a way it made sense... as well as freaking cool when you're nine years old
