Having read the Han Solo trilogy and currently reading The New Rebellion (for the second time), I am curious...why are there no illustrations for Kid DXo'ln, Zeen Afit, Wynni, and Ana Blue? Or, even, any visual representation for the Smuggler's Run at all? Having appeared prominently in both the HST and TNR, you'd figure at least a few of them would have representation somewhere...or how about Jarril and Seluss? I am a bit annoyed that none of these characters have ever been illustrated, let alone that Kueller's and Brakiss' illustrations and descriptions don't seem to match up.

Alright, I'm going to admit it.

When reading I, Jedi, every time Brakiss spoke I inadvertently pictured Todd from Breaking Bad. He had that quiet psychopath vibe about him.

I have no idea how that will effect my eventual reading of The New Rebellion.

Sorry, but all I got from Brakiss was a blond Tom Hiddleston.

We'll never know Han's past now that the thread's been locked. :(

Also Brakiss doesn't ham it up enough to be Hiddles. Who totally belongs in Jerec's crowd. Maybe Blackhole or something.

Speaking of dissatisfaction with Brakiss, the whole YJK depiction of him was totally a BINO. In TNR, he's a conflicted character that Luke sends scurrying off with his tail between his legs, and in YJK he becomes a wannabe Vader.

The reasons there aren't more depictions of things from TNR is because: TNR.

    You've seen Kueller D'Vil, surely that's enough.

Brakiss's first appearance in Young Jedi Knights was published over a year before The New Rebellion, and his last appearance in YJK was before TNR as well. He was a YJK character before Kristine Kathryn Rusch ever got a hold of him. She may have added more depth to the character, but the Andersons didn't turn him into a BINO --- they wrote him first.

Aw, but BINO is such a funny word.

I'd love more info, including drawings of Smuggler's Run and the main smuggler characters. Especially those we see in the Solo Trilogy. Smugglers need more drawing love! :)

I just want to say that I haven't seen Avengers, and so my mind constructed a scenario in which this happened in it.

I always felt rather sorry for poor Mako Spince. In retrospect, I felt he received the Zsinj treatment: stereotypical ne'er-do-well killed off by heroes, brought back by a later author(s) in earlier tales to receive more substantial character development.

It's sort of as if someone went back and wrote a whole backstory to a one-bit villain in the OT, like Jabba's rancor.

    Wait. Bad analogy.

Anyway, it seemed as though Han should have resolved his dispute with Mako after he kinda sorta had a hand in screwing up the poor fellow's life. But he never did. I always felt there was something depressing about that.

    I have a confession:

I think the Han Solo trilogy -- the Crispin one, not the Daley one -- isn't very good. I know people are big on continuity, and it shoehorns every single obscure little bit of Han Solo's past even hinted at from other stories into it, but I thought that was a bad thing. Running through Han's past girlfriends one by one, the relationships ending arbitrarily because he had to move onto the next, Han's life going from A to B so hey let's stop living on Nar Shaddaa because I can't marry Salla Zend because continuity! just struck me as really boring and contrived and oh my god it was Darth Plagueis before Darth Plagueis.

Continuity porn just doesn't do it for me anymore. That's not to say I didn't like Darth Plagueis. It works as frosting, but you can't make a meal of it, damnit!

I'm trying to torpedo my credibility by defending Starkiller and tipping sacred cows. I thought defending Dash was part of that but apparently everyone besides Instantdeath loves him, so.

You still have credibility in my eyes, since I like Starkiller, too–but the Crispin thing changes it somewhat. Still, your defense of Vergere always helps. ;)

Don't worry I don't really hate the Han Solo trilogy, I was just being controversial.

I like the Daley trilogy better, however. I think Han Solo's past should be handled like Indiana Jones -- depicted through pulp serials out of sequence!

I don't think the life history really works.

Don't get me wronged, I loved Daley's too. Promise. But since I read Crispin first (by a few months only, actually), it holds a special place in my head-canon. Daley's was pretty hilarious, TBH, because I love the idea of Chewbacca with an admiral's cap. But Gallandro was the best non-Force user villain ever.
