Yeah, the Qreph brothers resurfaced in 45 ABY, and plotted to take over the galactic economy. They also referred to the late Emperor Palpatine as an intellectual gnat. If they decided to implement their plan in 19 BBY- 4 ABY, would they have been able to defeat Palpatine?

Did the Qreph brothers engineer the Invasion of Naboo and the Clone Wars? Did the Qreph brothers declare the end of the democracy and the death of all Jedi to massive applause?

Actually what Revanfan. Read the book. Why yes, I do read and I AM a star wars fan, contrary to snobbishly rude belief.

Since they are a Troy Denning creation, he'd try anything to be better than Palpatine. Only Palpatine could outmaneuver Palpatine.

Max, after all of your other threads I'm starting to think YOU are the one plotting to take over a galactic economy.

All in favour of just saying Denning is the worst writer in STAR WARS literacy history, please flame me on my inbox.

Palpatine is unique as a villain, it was his own overconfidence that led to his downfall so that is why.

The Qreph brothers were complete morons with illusions of grandeur that went beyond everything. They couldn't stop Lando without resorting to massacre.

Palpatine at least used violence when it suited his needs while the Qreph brothers used it whenever they felt like it.

You mean you actually...believed their arrogant hubris?

The Qreph brothers were wrong as wrong could be. Sure, their brains could physically hold more so-called intelligence than Palpatine. But think about this. The Qreph brothers were outmaneuvered so they were being manipulated by a sixteen-year-old girl. Palpatine was outmaneuvered only once in his whole life: by Bail, Obi-Wan, and Yoda when they hid Luke and Leia. And even that had an alarming number of coincidences that, if changed even a little, would've created alarmingly different results:

    1) Obi-Wan was riding Boga during Order 66, allowing her to take the brunt of the blast and him to survive.
    2) Yoda happened to be with Chewbacca and Tarfful after Order 66, who happened to know the location of a secret escape pod for him to escape in.
    3) Bail and his wife happened to want a daughter, not a son. What if Owen had adopted Leia; he probably would've been even more protective of a niece instead of a nephew.
    4) Obi-Wan just happened to be able to retrieve Anakin's lightsaber and thus pique Luke's interest into the Jedi. What if the saber had fallen into the lava? Would Luke have believed Obi-Wan?

Basically everything from halfway through ROTS until the end of ANH is a massive set of coincidences that, if they had not happened in that consecutive order, would've guaranteed total victory for Palpatine. Basically, the Force was working against Palpatine and if it had not been for that, he would've been unstoppable; he would've controlled the galaxy. The Qrephs' so-called intelligence is nothing compared to that. Nothing. Palpatine would've looked at them, laughed, and blasted them with lightning. They're pathetic. Pretenders. Wannabes.

Besides Palpatine is a politician trained in the ways of the Force with almost seventy years of experience in leadership and planning prior to his death (with the years until his final death being given to clone madness and death trauma) while the Qreph brothers are not Force sensitive, have only ambition and the only reason they went unnoticed in their dealings for so long was due to events like the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, the Corellian-Confederation war and the emergency of the Lost Tribe of "for every Jedi they kill, fifty of their members die with them" Sith.

    Correction:

Lost Tribe of "for every Jedi they kill, an infinite number of their members die with them" Sith.

Just to drive a point home that a ten-year-old child could've defeated bet someone four to six times their age without breaking a sweat probably given how undangerous the Lost Tribe really was.

I think Revanfan1 has essentially covered the point, but in short - NO.

The brothers were very delusional about their abilities. Were they intelligent? Yes. Did they outsmart a lot of politicians and companies? Sure, but that's something your average politician or CEO could manage anyway. Were they smart enough to outwit Palpatine? They couldn't even outwit Vestara. They'd have been crushed in an instant.

    ABSOLUTELY.

They said so, so it's canon.

I would have to agree. Palpatine never said he was smarter than the Qreph brothers or that he could defeat them.

Even though I know you're joking, this does bring up an interesting point that so often what one character say about him/herself or another character is often automatically assumed to be the canon truth rather than that character's opinion. And I don't really know why....

[sarcasm]Because villains are always the most reliable, trustworthy, accurate sources there are. That's why everyone always listens to them over people like the Jedi.[sarcasm]

At least the novel narratives always seem to take villain's word and leave it at that unfortunately, such as Lumiya's claims about Vergere... Which now seem to be the canon unfortunately.

The Qrephs were at best a joke, at worst a complete waste of time.

THIS is exactly it. So Lumiya says Vergere was a sith.....ok......I can say that Donald Trump is Satan's son and can create fire with his mind. Doesn't make it true. (
