I get what you mean, though in the case of Catcher in the Ryereally do detest the character and find the work boring. But I can relate. I have similar problems with The Sorrows of Young Werther. I really don't like that book. But it's not boring. It's a weird feeling because I actually think it's a well-written work, but Werther is such an unlikable character that I just don't care. I felt really bad for Lotte and Albert for having to deal with him. But I'm an Enlightenment kind of guy by nature so I guess it's not too surprising...

Oh gods, I can relater to that. I had a lit professor like that just last year. She was a nice person but she was just an awful professor for this kind of thing. She managed to make Paradise Lost and Goethe's Faust unlikable, at least in the context of that class. How do you do that?!

Nope. I'm sure of it. Fin, Sawyer, and Island Stallion were all boring.

Read Connecticut Yankee. My favorite Twain book. It'll make you feel better. I admit Sawyer and Finn are overrated (Finn less so), but Twain is awesome in general.:)

Twain's The Innocents Abroad is downright hilarious.

I bought the Everyman's Library book that had The Innocents Abroad and Roughing It both in the one book. That was a wonderful experience. Of the two I prefer Roughing It, I think. That bit where he and his friends get lost in the snowstorm is just pure comic genius. The moment when the three of them meet, by accident, out behind the barn after they're rescued is just such brilliance.

But I love Finn. Sawyer is less serious, but I really enjoy it for what it is. But Finn is just a masterpiece. One of the Great American Novels.

David Brin's Sundiver. Unlike Dune I did not attempt it a 3rd time.

Hard to pin down. Its pace was slow perhaps. I still own it. It's right over there. For some reason I hate giving up books though I am tempted to trade it to a used book store.

Thank you. I found Lord of the Flies boring mainly because I found it very hard to understand and the pacing was tedious.

I thought Lord of The Flies was paced faster. I recall liking the book and cringing when the rock hit him in the head in the film. LoF was my first lesson in symbology.

My mom once tried to get me into "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier. Not only did I find the plot mildly creepy, I couldn't stand the fact that the narrator is never named nor described. I might try re-reading one day...but it still kind of bored me.

I also find Shakespeare incredibly lame. Yes, I know he wrote plays, not prose, but...damn that stuff's dry.

Sent from my stupid little astro droid using TapaTalk 2.

I don't find the Bard dry but he is hard to decipher at times. Ugh, the mini series of Rebecca is enough I will skip the book, thanks. :p Besides some of the themes are creepy.

He wrote plays where people had sex, sword fights and got murdered:p. How is that possibly a bad thing?

Also there was that one play that was basically just people having sex, killing each other, and also cannibalism. And then Anthony Hopkins cut off his own hand.

Nice idea for a thread, this.

Doctor Who novel, The Silent Stars Go By

Terror Town by Stuart Kaminskey - I love two of his other series, but this Chicago Police series, C'Boath on a bike, it's boring.

Not sure about the title of this Star Wars novel, quite possibly Star versus Star.
Series with different authors for different books, and the previous novel had ended on a cliff hanger. The first half of this book is the author clearing up the mess/situation that the other guy had left, and was THE MOST BORING THING I EVER HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO ENCOUNTER.

I had a nice gig through the friend of a friend, reviewing novels for an online book review site, and I get the book to keep for free. I lost that gig because of this book, as it took me FIVE MONTHS to read just the first half of it.

At the half way point, the author gets to write what he wanted to, all along, and that is a fantastic, rollicking adventure that I get through in a couple days.

    Dune, of course.

ophelia someone not only finds Shakespeare "lame", but actually put an adjective ahead of that noun.

No Pride and Prejudice? I am disappoint.

Yes, Austin's works make watchable movies, but damned if they're not boring reads.

I could never get into Wheel of Time. I didn't understand what the point of the plot was, and most of the female characters were poorly written.

I read a couple hundred pages of the first book and just felt lost. I couldn't get a feel for any of the characters or the plot, beyond "bad stuff is happening and our young characters must become heroes."

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: First write 100 pages filled with mental illness, murder, rape and sodomy, then write 700 pages
of mind-numbing dullness and supposed intrigue concerning the hunt for a serial killer, then drag on with 150 pages of conclusion.

Personally, I found that reading this novel was about as captivating as walking in a funeral procession led by a muffled drum.
