ST John Boyega (Finn) in Episode VII

Got this from The Wrap and didn't want this to get lost in the bigger casting thread..

“Star Wars: Episode VII” will take place 30 years after the events of “Return of the Jedi.” Driver will play the film's villain, while Isaac and Boyega will play heroes, with the latter actor expected to play a young Jedi."

 

Lightsaber color? I'm guessing blue.

How do you know? He could very well play a twi'lek or any other alien jedi. Just as Domhnall. Nothing announced about that so far.

 

Well, they didn't cast an actual Twi'lek.

 

Major mistake. JJ just doesn't get it.

Boyega is the one actor I'm not excited about, and no it has nothing to do with race. Mainly I just don't like the expression he always seems to have on his face. He could surprise me though, and I'm keeping my hopes up that he will.

 

Well u see now u make me think its about race. All u have to do is provide a reasonable critique. What u did was the equivalent of a I am not racist but.

 

I didn't like Attack the Block or his acting in it, but I hope he does good in whatever role he has in SW

 

I just figured that being critical of the only black actor of the bunch would inevitably lead to accusations, so I thought I'd jump ahead of them. Most people here should know I'm not racist though.

More specifically his voice is atrocious to me. And while it's very possible that he can change his accent, he always seems to have a look on his face that makes me expect to hear him talk in his own voice. I don't know if that makes sense, but that's what I dislike about him. But he may very well be a good enough actor to keep that from happening at all in the movie. I'm still trying to keep an open mind about him.

 

You see take notes from T-R-. I loved him Attack on the Block but if u did not like it I am hardly going to just jump to the conclusion that your a racist.

Well this is a thread for specifically John.

I mean personally I am worried about Driver...I hate Girls and everything about it and he hardly strikes me as villain he can step in for Palps and Vader.

 

Being honest, I'm worried about Driver as well as the other new actors. We know what to expect from the returning actors and Sydow, I hope ALL the new actors deliver.

 

Indeed only one of these younger actors has been involved in a big budget movie so I am less worried about Domhnall.

 

Good point. I've always had a little bit of trouble picturing Driver as a serious villain, but they must have cast these guys for a reason. Von Sydow does bring a lot to the table though, and that's very encouraging at least.

 

Race issue has pop up on twitter. ugh!

Only in STAR WARS could the fact that a British-Nigerian being cast as the lead NOT be what people are talking about.

 

Come on man! Brian is upset because people aren't mentioning race? That race isn't being mentioned, my friends, is a great thing

 

I love this!

To be perfectly honest, Boyega's casting is the only one I'm really excited about. I'm reserving judgement on all the rest.
