    I don't mind a Remnant, but I definitely want to see some additional military antagonists, like Mandos. I always figured the Sith would return, but it is sort of sad to think our heroes won't have much of a break after ROTJ. But that's the price we pay for more Star Wars, right?

    Somebody suggested above that MVS would probably play the lead Imperial. Definitely a good guess, especially with the rumors of a female Sith-ish antagonist.

    So, if all of these rumors are true (who knows), maybe our villain roster is

    Lupita = Sith Master
    MVS = Imperial Leader
    Driver = Sith Apprentice/Fallen Jedi
    Gwendoline = Mandalorian leader?

    I'm starting to buy into the MVS as Old Imperial rumors more and more, but still not buying the female Sith rumors. Not yet. It's a cool idea in itself, though. As is the idea of a female Boba Fett.

    Rebels will probably be important in terms of setting up the villians. we have the inquisitor, and Dave Filoni has said that their is more than one, we have Sabine, we means we will find out about the state of the mandolorean systems through her.

    TCW set up that Palpatine had multiple apprentices at the same time, since the Yoda arc set up that Palpatine had dooku at the sae time he was training Maul. So the female sith could be the apprentice of the apprentice Palpatine had in casr he wanted to replace Vader, and couldn't convert Luke.

    Palpatine would have kept that apprentice away from DS2

    The TCW second season ARC of Holocron heist, showed that Palpatine had plans for force sensitive children after the Jedi were gone.

    In terms of the underworld, we met jabba's son Rotta, and we saw his wife Gardullah in TPM. We now have the Pykes, and black Sun, as well as Mother Talzin and her nightsisters, but we also met the nightbrothers.

    I'd actually like to see LFL put its money where its mouth is this time and directly incorporate EU material - in particular the new baddie - into the Saga. It'll at least make it harder for the company to disregard that material somewhere down the line.

    TCW isn't Legends, it was declared equal to the six movies in the press release

    canon is just 1 to 6, TCW, Rebels and what's coming

    I know it's considered canon but isn't it still regarded as EU? Well, New-EU? The old EU was considered canon as well at one point...

    George really didn't care about the books, and comics as much as he did the movies, and TCW
    But JJ and KK want to give Disney a brand that anyone can enter through any media, and not have to worry if their entering the same universe as the movies.

    The old EU was never considered the same level of canon as the films. Now TCW, Rebels, the films, and everything else going forward will be the same canon level. See this thread.

    I think people can still call TV and books expanded universe, but it doesn't have the connotation it used to.

    In fact, although some are having a hard time believing it, I think the books and TV shows will be opening up the universe in important ways. Big things will happen in the EU. Maybe the biggest Saga events will take place in the ST, but that doesn't mean new characters won't first be seen in other formats (this already happened before with Grievous and Ventress in the micro series Clone Wars).

    If they're going to use elements and characters from Rebels or TCW in the ST they'd still have to be established organically within the dramatic context of the Saga. That's where things will get tricky. For example, I hope that a plot point from something that happens in an episode of Rebels - many decades before the ST- will not be used as a big payoff in the ST or to justify the presence of some character or other. Still, as far as general concepts and characters go, it all sounds pretty exciting. We'll see.

    One of the things I really like about the recent casting announcements is Gwendoline Christie and I really like the idea of her as a Mando. Additionally, I'd like to see her as MVS' daughter or granddaughter. Now, if this happens and MVS is only around for Episode VII, could we see GG's character take up the mantle of both Imperial Leader and Mand'alor? If this happens, how does she interact with the Sith and the OT3?

    There's a rumor? I was just writing in the Chosen One thread that we know it will start in media res and I'm betting the problem will be the same in SW as it ever was: Sith. The ST needs a big climactic ending. In order for that to happen certain aspects we've come to believe about the story will change, alter and pivot. If Plagueis is the villain then we will understand Palpatine's role in the story in a different light. If Palpatine/Plagueis created Anakin, his role will alter. Perhaps his redemption was pivotal personally, but no balance. Perhaps the destruction of Palpatine allows for the Sith to come back stronger in a metaphysical sense. The Republic and the balance of the Force should not be established until the end of the ST. A rising crises in the Force that began in Episode I will be concluded in Episode IX. Luke could be the new transformative figure or Chosen One, or perhaps one of the new generation. Or someone entirely new altogether. The Skywalker curse or something plagues the Skywalkers.

    You do realize that even after the Roman Empire lost Rome... it was still going as the Byzantine Empire... right? Just because they lost a large chunk of the Galaxy, doesn't mean the multiple systems (Tens or hundreds of systems instead of thousands) they still control isn't an Empire... just on a much smaller scale compared to what it used to be. Still larger than all the nations on earth by many times combined! I think it still qualifies as an EMPIRE even in our real world definition.

    ^^^ But SW is not the history of an empire. It is a story about the Force and about family ultimately as well as a hero's journey. Lucas wrote SW to be about a religion type philosophy. The Empire was just one means for the evil part of that philosophy to take over, not visa versa. Plus, it isn't a lesson on ancient history. Most of the influences historically are from the past century. No one in the SW universe cares about the Roman empire. WWI and WWII are the historical contexts for the movies we've seen.

    Which has no impact on whether the Empire could still exist after the destruction of the 2nd death star, which is what is being discussed.

    But it's not a matter of whether the Empire could exist as much as whether having the Empire exist is a good idea. Quite frankly, it's a completely ridiculous idea and kind of humorous. Being obsessed with the past and the idea of an Empire doesn't make it a good idea.

    However, people can exist from that time period and they can link up with a new group of "baddies" who are hell bent on destroying the new government and/or the Jedi.

    The idea of having someone from the past linger around, join the baddie, but then realize this new baddie will destroy the entire galaxy and then join the "Republic" is actually a much better idea.

    At least the Empire provided some order. I think the ST will be about disorder, chaos and survival and establishment of order in the GFFA.

    That would make sense if the ST took place soon after the OT, not a generation later.

    I hope the ST is about showing how this Jedi/Republic will overcome the flaws of the old Jedi/Republic. Not simply getting them back to the starting point. Breaking free of the cycle, instead of repeating it.

    I can at least agree with that. While 30 years for the Empire to still exist seems unreasonable to me, having the former rebel alliance struggling to get order does seem remotely plausible. I can't imagine what they were doing for 30 years though.

    WWI and WWII are not the only areas of history GL took inspiration from. It's really an amalgamation of different eras and religions and philosophies brought together in a fun adventure serial. It should continue to use these different ideas and not be beholden to one area of our own history IMO.

    Yes, but the actual decline of the Roman Empire was very complex and drawn out and not a very good analogy for what could or should be done in SW. SW thrives on relative simplicity. To the average person who couldn't care less about history and ancient empires, the Empire collapsed, two Death Stars were blown away, Vader's gone, and having anything threaten our heroes that even remotely goes by the name Galactic Empire would elicit the biggest WTF or "not again" to most fans.
