ST Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

I love it.

I can't believe how many people are equating "awakens" with "sleeping."

The Force hasn't been utilized much since ROTJ. No more Chosen One, etc. Luke probably didn't have need to use the Force over the years. Something has happened to change all that. To me, the title speaks of something very big happening. But we will always have the boo hoo-ers on this site.

Edit: changed I like it to I love it. It just took a minute to hit me.

 

Being a OT & PT & Lucas purist, titles have never really bothered me at all. They all sound weird at first, but they eventually grow on you. What I think is MORE important in the "meaning" behind it.

Could it mean that Luke did go in to a hermit like status after ROTJ???? The title certainly doesn't sound like there is a new Jedi order flourishing with hundreds of Jedi running around. If I go with that theory, this whole Luke defeating the Emperor and Vader deal just to let the "Force" go to sleep seems like it cheapens the purpose of the OT. Just my opinion of course...

The issue is that some folks will never be satisfied unless we can somehow develop a time machine, go back to 1983 and kidnap the big three, bring them to 2014 and have them recreate their own fan ideas.

 

I had to come back to 7SA for this, if only to see the reactions.

 

Yes, the literal interpretation is really silly. There can be many layers to it and you cannot know for sure without context.

"Awakens? The opposite of sleeping? WHEN WAS IT SLEEPING?!" I mean... really.

 

Aww come on - it's THE BIGGEST E-7 News since we got conformation of the OT heroes being back - there's a bit of giddy shell shock going on from the Force Lightning out of the Blue...

 

Sounds exactly like a Star Wars title.

I can't imagine anyone having anything bad to say about it. But of course people will make up some reason to claim it's the worst thing ever!

 

Feels like a new beginning, I love it! Also glad to see no more 'Episode' emphasis. Old skool.

 

Did anyone predict this title?

 

Yeah, it really did come literally out of nowhere.

I stumbled upon it completely accidentaly, wasn't even checking the boards or any rumor related sides.

 

I like it. I couldn't say the same for The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones at the time I first heard it however.

Given the rumors about Luke, and what we know about "Kira", this title makes a lot of sense. It is also fantastic from a brand marketing perspective. It screams, "Star Wars is back, bitches"! to the general public.

Also this new title rhymes with bacon, so the parody possibilities are endless.

Nice that they released title , now we just need the trailer to come out. Like the old school feel.

 

That was a low key reveal.

I'd have thought they'd save it for the trailer which seems to be coming sooner than later by some reports.

The title itself is low key as well. Doesn't connote a threat or danger like ESB, ROTJ, TPM, AOTC or ROTS more like ANH in that sense.

Still I suppose Force was going to appear in a movie title eventually.

How is it old school?

Oh that. Well it's oldish then so was The Clone Wars logo and this version isn't really old school as such. It's just the logo with the title in white between the words.

I doubt it's going to look as dull as that on the poster.

 

Considering how much Lucas likes things that rhyme, it wouldn`t surprise me if he is the one who provided the title.

 

It could be referring to the villain? A villain who has a connection to the Force that we haven't seen before? It's not a great title, but it's better than TPM or AOTC.

 

Maybe the power demonstrated by the Jedi and Sith is the equivalent of the force's power while asleep... while Luke's new abilities and those of whom he teaches are the 'awaken' power of the Force.

 

Episode VII is officially not a part of the title.

 

What I really like about the title is it does seem to reference the old and the new. I am sure it is talking about Luke, but also talking about Daisy and Boyega's characters.
