I hope that Domhnall Gleeson's character turns out to be Luke's son. We'll see, but I hope so.

Say this rumor turns out to be true, Gleeson plays Luke's son and is on this mission playing both sides to get rid of the "super weapons". .... A thought just occurred to me. What if, in the process of destroying both weapons, Luke's son dies? Either killed or sacrificing himself. That could fit with the other rumor from a while back that "Luke survives the film, but changed." All this is based on an immense amount of speculation, but food for thought. I wouldn't like it (Luke's son being introduced, just to be killed off), but it would certainly be a shock.

Though to be fair, if you blow up a Death Star in this galaxy you get mid-level management on a base in Siberia.

I think it is credible that in 10 years (in war) any young be a high ranked officer

Now, any character could die, that would be an interesting idea. But among the new characters would be a surprise for ep 8.

One thing I missed in MSW podcast is that they did not explain, or even speculate about how would Dom fit into the new lead trio. All what they say sounds amazing, the family stuff and so on. But Dom is a supporting role, not a lead one.

and how would one even know that if Episode 8 is not even being filmed. Making can't know what happens beyond VII, if Gleeson stays a supporting character or becomes one of the leads.;)

We´ll have to wait and see (starting to hate this phrase).

Not to mention how long it took him to become General Calrissian.

When I first watched TPM and ANH, I never assumed either Padme or Leia was trained from birth [IMG] It was only after I saw the movies and read deeper into the GFFA that learned further of their backgrounds.

If I wasn't a hardcore Star Wars nerd, I wouldn't even pay attention to the random imperial until when (if? [IMG]) he becomes relevant to our heroes ;)

Luke had a kid for the sole purpose of breading him as a soldier.:p

Again, his name (and rank!) could wholly be fabricated, using those of a dead or captured Imp officer or forged entirely. That kinda tactic has been used by covert agents in fiction for ages. There is no reason to think he must enter Imperial service as a recruit and rapidly ascend the ranks in order for the plan to work.

Actually, we have no idea what his name is and if the rumor is true, we don't know what his alias is or anything about it. We've only heard a code name that we cannot share for various reasons.

If Gleeson is the one playing both sides he could well be the connecting tissue that brings those coincidental elements (Finn/Rey/BB-8)together.

Would be kind of cool if he was Luke's son, but they had never met. And when they did finally meet he could say "Luke, you are my father" (sort of a twist on TESB)

I find all purported scenarios wherein Luke becomes any degree of "absentee father" to be spurious considering his own personal unnecessarily orphaned experience in the OT. The idea of what his familial journey was and to willingly do that to his own child (regardless of various potential motives) is just odd.

If he knows about it but as we have seen in Star Wars and in various other heroic tales Luke could think that his wife and child were killed at some point and not know that the child survived. If we go with the story as rumoured then it's 35 years later. DG is 31 so I doubt they will play him too much younger than 25 at most so that leaves years of adventures after VI then for Luke to have a family who at some point he loses.

If Luke knew he had a child I don't see him abandoning the kid even if the mother is killed unless there are some incredible circumstances. Now if it turns out that Luke has only been gone 5 years or so and by then "Ben" was already 20-25 then it's not too much of a problem.

There are so many avenues to go from the kid being grabbed by the Empire and brought up by them to the mother being a Talia al Ghul to Luke's Batman and "Ben" being Damian.

Let's pretend for one second that Mara Jade is the mother. In this story she could work for the Empire, fall in love with Luke in a forbidden union ala Romeo and Juliet she has the child that Luke never knows about and you go from there.

    "I have no son."

    "No, I am your son."

LFL has said it is 30 years later. Alan Horn meant it would be 35 years since ROTJ was in theaters.
