NOT liking this name at all. Phasma, Poe, Rey, Maz, Snoke....we've gotten used to a couple of them and will have no choice but to get used to the rest, but...I mean...come on really? They're like fraternity or sorority nick names.

Phasma, Rey, and Maz all sound like "Star Wars-ey" names to me. Kylo Ren DEFINATELY was. Poe and Snoke, well this is the same universe that has characters with names like Jar Jar Binks, Sy Snootles, Admiral Ackbar, etc. So weird names are just part of the deal.

 

The name sounds weird, but the "Supreme Leader" title sounds about right. I don't think this guy's a Sith, but probably someone who's obsessed with the Dark Side and is using Kylo Ren as his weapon. Maybe he's a former Imperial higher-up who heads up the First Order to reclaim the former Empire's glory.

He could also just wind up being Kylo Ren's Tarkin and be the bad guy that they can get away with killing in this movie.

Rey is ok. So is Kylo. Poe is even doable, but "Snoke"?

Well, we now know at least one of Lucas' ideas has survived in the final version of the film. Count Dooku doesn't sound so silly now.

 

For some reason I can't help but think of Denethor, Steward of Gondor. Full-on crazy and mad with power. And to folks knocking the name, you all would have crapped yourselves if this was 1977, we had the internet and you just learned of the names Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. You are lying if you want to try to say that you would have been cool with them if some of the names in this movie are giving you fits.

Snoke = Okay

Yes the Supreme Leader part is interesting. So looks like we are dealing with a rather extreme and powerful individual here.

 

I guess the thing about Supreme Leader Snoke is that you can't say it without having a smile on your face.

And that's why it's going to work, and that's why The Force Awakens is going to make $2 billion dollars.

Just the combination of Star Wars and the name Supreme Leader Snoke is worth at least $500 million at the box office. It's just too cool to be believed.

JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are crazy. I wonder which one of them came up with that name.

Anyway, everything about Supreme Leader Snoke is so right to me. It's a perfect Star Wars villain name. It's right up there with Darth Plagueis the Wise. Better than it, actually, to me.

 

I say this every time, but I don't understand why Lando Calrissian, Admiral Ackbar, or Darth Maul are fine but (insert new name here) isn't.

 

Good point. Supreme Leader doesn't suggest a confederacy of any kind, but a cult of personality centered around one demented mofo.
