Rogue One [Official Info] Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - December 16, 2016

This movie will not end with the Death Star Plans being recovered and transmitted. I believe this happens at the end of Act 2. When Vader goes after the Blockade runner, Tantive IV, he sends Bounty Hunters after the spies. Act 3 will be the spies surviving the Bounty Hunters, and maybe one or two of them returning to Yavin only to discover that the Tantive IV never arrived.

That's how I would do it anyway.

 

Not sure it's been mentioned here (?) but Rogue One has been renamed as:

Where are the Death Star plans actually hidden before they fall into the hands of the Rebel Alliance?

 

My guess, on a computer at an Imperial base (maybe even Tarkin's HQ). They'll likely need to download/record them.

Then with apologies to the real artist, clumsily reworked by me - I drew the character silhouettes to somewhat resemble the cast, separated the trees, to make room for them to stand.
Then reworked the ANH crawl to better represent the present tense.
And added it, and the logo and the separate character headshots bar.

Apologies, you know the image though, as the camera pans up from the trees you see the Death Star.
I just inserted the Rogue Crew into the landscape.

I don't know how they get to the Death Star if by a ground crew, or by ships, either their own or commandeered Imperial ships. If it's orbiting this forest planet, theres probably an Imperial base, shipyards, or HQ stationed bellow. Might be where they are headed? Or this planet just gets a fly over, and the poster absolutely makes no sense at all!

I think this group looks more like Bounty Hunters than members of the Rebellion. In fact, in the article they don't even call them the Rebellion; instead they are called Resistance Fighters like in Episode VII. Why not use the term Rebellion; which is what this group was called at that time period? Also; I am not liking that they seem to be skipping over the X-Wing and Y-Wing pilots. The Title Rogue One refers to X-Wings, and the Opening Crawl for Episode IV mentions the 'Rebel spaceships, attacking from a hidden base', not ground troops attacking from a hidden base.

There seems to be a pattern forming with the Disney Star Wars movies. They seem to be purposefully changing the lighter, Fairy Tale in space, look and feel of Star Wars, for a more grounded in reality tone; similar to the way Nolan changed Batman with his movies. I hope I am wrong, and the finished products will be true Star Wars.

 

I think Alan Tudyk has been confirmed as a CG alien character, so you can probably add him to the crew.

The ANH crawl mentions both rebel ship strike, and "Rebel spies" steeling the Death Star plans.

"...t is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.
During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR,..."

These are more than likely the as mentioned "Rebel Spies" of the mission who actually steel the plans. they are not going to dress in any obvious Rebel uniforms on a spy mission. They could in fact be dresses as bounty hunters, smugglers, traders, rebel double agents, what have you.
It doesn't contradict the crawl or cannon, it affirms it.
The ships (some were seen in the preview art) likely provide, cover, (an air strike as per the crawl) drop off, and escape, etc...

I do agree calling this film Rogue One has made many assume it = Rogue Squadron.
It never said Squadron, mostly fans are bringing their own baggage to a new film.
I do think they might have better called this film "Rebel Spies" as per the ANH crawl,

Yeah, you are right about the Rebel Spies being mentioned in the Opening Scroll. What worries me though is Kathleen Kennedy's statement about how Rogue One is a departure from the Main Saga; and will focus on ground battles. The Opening Scroll also mentions spaceship attacks specifically, not ground battles. Ground battles are fine, but I don't see why they would abandon X-Wings and Y-Wings altogether. Of course they seem to be rebuilding the Yavin IV Base hangar for Rogue One; so there will still be a chance that we will see some X-Wing action at the end of the movie, after the spies steal the Death Star plans. Maybe Gareth Edwards is trying to keep X-Wing involvement a secret. It would be cool if after all the ground action, just when you think there will not be any spaceship battles, some X-wings and Y-Wings fly in to help the Rebel Spies escape the Imperial facility holding the Death Star plans.

 

Well, the battle of Yavin was a space battle. Odds are all, probably most, of these characters aren't pilots.

Getting more SYFY/Scifi channel vibes from the photo than Star Wars.

 

Why does it always have to be X-Wings? We already have an X-Wing pilot in the Sequels, we hardly need more X-Wings in the spinoffs. Pilots can fly B-Wings or Bombers or whatever for a change. It's not like the X-Wing is the nonplusultra of space ships.

 

X-wings are to Star Wars, What the Enterprise is to Star Trek. they're more recognizable.

 

I don't think it contradicts the SW opening crawl...... yet. Rebel spaceships striking from a hidden base....... during the battle rebel spies managed to steal the secret plans......... The space battle could be a diversion for the spies to gain access to the plans? We won't know til we see the film, but I too hope it doesn't contradict what was established by that opening crawl.

In the press release for Rogue One it says "Rogue One is about resistance fighters who have united", maybe this is the beginnings of the Rebellion coming together as one organisation. We saw this in Rebels and learnt that there were factions fighting around the galaxy who weren't aware of the existence or whereabouts of each group in case one was captured. Possibly Rogue One sees them being grouped together for this mission?

 

Not exactly. The Falcon, the Death Star, TIE-Fighter and Star Destroyers are at least as iconic as the X-Wing. They don't have to always go with the most obvious choice when it comes to ships.

 

I'd imagine that we'll have a variety of ships throughout the movie.
