I've thought about it, and I kind of hope so. I like how it would invert the opening scenes of all three OT films; it showcases the enormity and scale of a Star Destroyer, but in a completely different way.

Never thought of it but that's true, technically a Star Destroyer would still be in the first scene of the movie

    I've narrowed it down to:

    - Han's body with Finn's jacket draped over it.
    - Chewie's body with Finn's jacket draped over it.
    - Injured Finn with Chewie kneeling nearby.
    - Injured Finn with some snow-covered shrubbery that we think is hair.

So, basically, it doesn't really resolve anything.

Used to be a tossup between this and, "Play it again, Sam" but as Casablanca (sadly) fades from the collective social memory, "Luke..." is eaily the most misquoted line going.

Same goes for "Beam me up, Scotty" in Star Trek. That exact phrase was never actually uttered in the show

You're saying Finn makes it out without a scratch?

Only 3-4% of the whole movie.

I think it's more likely that it's used as a transition from one scene to the next, rather than as a transition from the opening crawl into the first scene of the movie. But I wouldn't rule it out. Remember how everyone freaked when AotC opened with a pan up instead of a pan down?

I don't think that they would reveal the opening shot in a trailer though. But I do like the idea.

I think a later transition into that shot from space is a neat idea

I wouldn't be opposed to it being after the crawl though I agree it would be controversial

I also like the idea that the starfield after the crawl is just night sky and it pans down onto a planet

Didn't JJ say there wouldn't be any lens flares?

I mean "freaked" in the sense that people thought it was cool. Although, prior to the movie coming out, there was a script leak that everyone blasted as being fake because of the "Pan up" instruction.

When making death predictions I feel like you have to consider both story perspectives and production perspectives. Han's death makes an enourmous amount of sense from a production perspective considering the assumption that Harrison's never wanted to be part of a new Star Wars movie, but was convinced to - so they wrote him out.

There is simply no reason to kill Chewie. There is every incentive in the world to keep as many legacy characters as possible and if Mayhew didn't want to do it (for some absurd reason) then there are a lot of people that could do the job.

Somone dies. I'd bet my life on it. Before the trailer I wouldn've put my money on Leia because of the seemingly even balance between story and production reasons, but now, like many people, my money is on Han. The story and production reasons are just too overwhelming.

    HOWEVER.

I mentioned this before and I'll repeat it. If you saw the way Harrison was at the SDCC panel you'd swear he was a different man. He seemed genuinley excited and happy to be back into Star Wars and no I think that if there is any way that they can - they might write him back into it. Like if the death wasn't absolutely certain they may have him survive it.

    Tl;dr ::

TRUST ME. The production team wants Harrison in All the movies if they can. If Han dies it is 100% because Harrison would have had it no other way.

No, I'm just referring specifically to that shot. (I do lean towards thinking it IS Finn though). ;)

The prequels were heady times for those of us who were supposed to be studying for exams but spent time goofing off on message boards instead. lol

As for the Solo question, does it seem to anyone else like Han dying is just a little TOO obvious? I feel like that might end up being the "big" misdirection of this film. Han is left for dead and then comes in to save the day.

I feel like our roles have been reversed. I was only 8 or 9 when TPM came out, so I'll never truly understand the hype.

As soon as I saw the pan up, I left the theater. "THIS IS NOT STAR WARS!" I shouted, to thunderous applause. Best decision I ever made.

Even at that age though I felt the disturbance in the force.

And by "disturbance on the force" I mean even at the age of 9 I could tell something was wrong. Not trying to PT bait at all.
