True but the Emperor was only mention in passing of ANH. He wasn't a establish character. Luke was the main protagonist of the OT. Little different.

Again I am not saying if he is Cameo Luke only it makes for a bad ending. Just seems like a very small window for success.

I'm just putting it out there. I have no opinion of Mr Oswalt tbh and I'm not taking his word as gospel.

He's probably the most trustworthy out of anyone at the premiere. If the film was **** he would say it's ****.

People on the cantina are saying that a lot of these people who tweeted that they liked it are in denial and in about 2 weeks will come around saying it's terrible and just as bad as TPM. Those people on there totally believe what Reddit and pastebin says is gospel.

This guy says "it's not a bad movie". That's his critique. Han dies horrifically. No redemption for Kylo and no family member to confront him. Rey is nothing to him and there's no connection.

I have one big question. Were those who saw the movie cheering because they actually saw the movie or because there was something worth cheering for? With the horrible events at the end, I can't imagine a cheerful, joyous response. So the "cheering" was probably that it is finally here but not due to the events of the film itself. I think some folks are starstruck. Or are people really in love with depressing movies these days? Trying too hard to be like Dark Knight I'd say.

And such a downer last part of the movie the week before Christmas? Really?

Sorry-I am feeling VERY negative right now and this was a downer for me but at least it didn't happen the day I saw it. That would have been horrible. This way at least I have a couple of days to clear my conscience before seeing it and not having TOO many high hopes. And I have to drive 3 hours at night right after seeing it so at least I won't be in shock if I am disappointed.

Frankly, until YOU see it, there is no way to know for sure. Having said that, I think he's a pretty honest guy, and if the movie wasn't up to snuff, he would not be enthusiastic. At best, he'd a give a lukewarm "It's good" kind of comment.

    Someone needs a hug!!! [:D]

Lots of bad things happen, but from what I'm hearing, the Luke reveal is actually handled with lots of emotion, and after the emotion that came just before, it leaves you with a "Now THAT is what I am talking about!" kind of feeling. Have to wait and see, but my couple sources say that the film does not leave you feeling down.

Mate take a nap and relax lol you're frantic as hell.

FACT: TFA has been overwhelming positive with reviews

Deep breaths man! Relax! Try and enjoy the movie when YOU see it. You and alot of people here are overthinking.

Tip toe-ing through all this, not really wanting to see spoilers (I know I know, I am in that forum), but wanted to see general consensus. I agree that most of the initial thoughts are very positive and almost universally so, but I also know that there is the afterglow effect of seeing something that is huge and you are a part of AND want to show the world how cool you were to be there etc.

That all said, I expected and continue to expect this to be a good to great movie based on every possible inference I can make of the process, hearsay and the talent involved.

I also think there is a special comfort knowing this is part of a greater, overall effort to have a ton of Star Wars movies for many, many years. Kind of like it is wrapped in a warm blanket...Christmas that goes on forever (or nearly so!)

The pastbin is real. There are LOTS of hanging plot threads for future movies. The fact that Luke and Han will never meet again, that Han is effectively divorced from Leia and the war has been raging for 25 years on and off is all very depressing.

Rey WILL be a Skywalker - Just not in this film.

BTW as I said right at the start of all this - It is very close to a remake of ANH.

Can Devin Faraci tell us where Finn rhymes with the OT, or is he employing his usual hyperbolic condescension?

I've had some interactions with Faraci, and the takeaway was rarely that his is a thoughtful voice.

I doubt a bunch of unwashed fans 'got to hang out with Harrison' still doesn't change the fact that they waiting in line like idiots, for a film anyone can see, whoopdie do they got to meet Harrison Ford. I once met Bill Clinton and shook his hand and I actually got to 'hang out' with the President.. President >Actor

I think the "downers" being described are okay. This is the start of a trilogy...I think the reason JJ/LK wrote the characters this way is so they have something to overcome. The only way from here is UP!

Mate, remember both JJ and Kasdan have made a big point of saying the movie should be fun and should delight. Abrams said what he loved the most was the sheer sense of fun in the OT. He says ANH is his favourite.

The film is not dark. It's going to be fun, entertaining and bring on the feels as well.

If you've seen it, is it a movie I can take a 5 year old to see? Or is it too dark like Sith?

    No it's just their take.

I can only hope that TFA is as great to me as TPM is.

These spoilers don't really sway me one way or the other.

Yes agreed. I like happy endings or at least somewhat happy endings. ANH is by far my favorite movie of all time. I love Empire but the impact that ANH made on me is insurmountable. ESB was a GREAT middle act. It did what it needed to do. Abrams and of course Kasdan know and understand that. Certainly this movie CAN'T be the downer it sounds like.

Yes, I need to step back, listen to some Christmas music, watch some Disney princess movies with my own little princess and not get all caught up. Hopefully by Saturday I will be fresher.

Man, A New Hope was such a downer! All of Luke's mentors were killed, Han murders someone in cold blood and an entire planet of good people was destroyed. What a miserable movie!

We all love these films mate. The anxiety is understandable. But even if we do end up being disappointed (I really think we won't though) then life goes on.
