ST Anakin Skywalker in the New Films

I really hope so - it'd be awesome. It makes a lot of sense too, especially with Kylo Ren being obsessed with him. Yet, Kylo doesn't seem to know the full story behind Anakin. Imagine if he appeared to Kylo as a Force Ghost? Kylo learning that Anakin returned to the light side could cause a crisis of faith in him, which I think could lead to lots of interesting turns. The possibilities are awesome and highly appropriate story-wise.

 

Could you imagine a Force Ghost Vader appearing to Kylo initially for recognition's sake who removes his helmet/phases whatever into Anakin sans deformities. How could Hasbro/Disney pass up the chance at those toys?

Me too. I have the impression of being in front of two different people when it comes to Anakin and Vader. Granted that at a metaphysical level, they are different, but it's the essentially the same person so it sits wrong mocking Anakin while revering Vader in a way, although my perception of Vader worsened after the PT.

 

No, he does, all of it. He knows Vader returned to the light out of sentimentality. It's in the TFA novelization.

That said, in the way he talked to the mask, we kind of have to get either a ghost visit or force vision. The mask should be a powerful darkside artifact considering who wore it and what meaning it had to Vader. It literally gave him life. There is nothing else that symbolizes Vader in the same way, not even his personal lightsaber.

 

two possibilities:

He visits both Kylo and Leia; trying to get them to come together. Warning Ben of his mistakes and urging him not to repeat them. Might tell Leia she shouldn't feel guilty for Ben's fall to the darkside. I don't think he'll appear to Luke or Rey.

or

Like Cade Skywalker, Ben finds himself duelling Vader in a vision, being defeated and Anakin revealing his damaged face underneath - a warning to his grandson.

 

I'm confident that if he was to appear, Hayden could deliver what was needed of him. The guy can act, but like most non-method performers he needs solid direction to ensure it comes across the right way on-camera.

 

I doubt we'll see force ghosts ever again.

Interesting article. I wonder if that really could kill the possibility of Force Ghosts. The article suggests the Communist Party is concerned in particular with movies that suggest ghosts are real. In a series set in a distant fictitious galaxy with aliens, superweapons and telekinesis--would they regard a Force Ghost as suggesting they're real? Hopefully this is the kind of thing that could be explained away to censors. Or just cut the scene from the China release.

What I also wonder about is the fact that they are not happy with any overtly spiritual content. No one in TFA talked in detail about what the Force was or what it meant (Maz explained it very briefly). It's likely because we all know by this point (and the movie was light on exposition generally). Could it could also have been to tone down spiritual language?

Rian Johnson has worked in China before (he shot a chunk of Looper there)--perhaps that equips him with either the insight or connections to navigate any issues that may come up.

Personally I would quite like to see Force Ghost Anakin deployed in a meaningful way. Although I re-watched AOTC last night and cringed and had to give up, I am sure Rian could get a good performance out of Hayden.

 

This could bridge the story in important ways. If it happens, I think it's most likely a scene between Anakin, Luke and Rey. Rey needs to know the truth. She can then reveal this to Ren (who at first won't believe it, but will know it to be true). In the past, the Force ghosts have always appeared to the heroes. Obi-wan could not interfere with a confrontation between Luke and Vader. It seems too easy for Anakin to just appear to Ren and set it right.

 

I hope he is because he can act and I want to see your reaction.

 

Sadly though I think it would be logical to have Hayden come back because Anakin's force ghost should still be with Luke at this point, I dont think they'll have him in it. Which will again need to be explained.

 

I really hope they don't tailor these movies to China's censorship laws. If anything, film an alternate scene for the China release or just cut it.

 

So content in The Art of The Force Awakens Book changes this whole discussion dramatically. I haven't read the book personally, so I'll link to the Kylo Ren thread in the Episode 7 forum where people who have read the book are talking about the contents.

Basically, there is concept art of force ghost Anakin.

 

This would be dope. I would pay twice the price of admission to see The Chosen One again.

I feel sorry for the guy, he's gotten so damn much hate through the years. So seeing him return and deliver a great performance to show that he's ACTUALLY a good actor would be awesome.

 

I'd like to see him back as he has shown that he can act, and it would be nice to see Anakin do a fan convention essentially (i.e. appearing to his No.1 fan).

 

Agreed entirely. Even though I liked his performance before, I'd like to see him just knock it out of the park to prove he's got what it takes (and his other films have often shown me he does!!)

I would like to see him back and think he did fine in the PT... Let's keep in mind a few things...

1) The Force can prevent people from dying
2) The Force can evolve, Kylo was using it to read minds which I have never seen before...
3) Kylo is obsessed with grandpa

Maybe and evolving Force will give Kylo the ability to bring back Anakin... Just saying...

Probably a force ghost. I don't see Kylo Ren really taking the time to listen to ghost Anakin. If anything I see Luke conversing with him.

 

I was thinking about this yesterday...it could be a really monumental scene for Kylo/Ben to have him confronted by the ghost of his grandfather and for the legends Kylo believes to be revealed as lies. Kylo sits alone staring at the mask, an unfamiliar voice speaks to him "you think you know the truth, you don't!" and as he looks up the shimmering shape of Anakin Skywalker appears before his grandson....

The only real question is who will play Anakin?
