It's possible, but to honest while I think Rey will be helped as a character if she turns out to be Luke's daughter, I don't think Finn needs to be a legacy character or Force-sensitive to succeed. He's already carved out a new and unique place in the SW series. He really is a fantastic character and a great performance by John.

Gonna wait till DVD. The extended version will probably be alot better at 4 hours. Felt like they were rushing too much with the theatre version.

I just hope we find out more about his real parents. Since he was taken. I know people keep bring up that it take away from Rey story, but I don't understand how. I don't believe OT was all Luke. All the time? Unless I am mistaken.

I guess I'm in the minority but I quite liked his character and definitely look forward to seeing him in future SW films. A worthy addition to the series, IMO.

I think most people like him...what's not to like? Very human, heroic but funny, with a great heart. And a great performance.

I've seen a lot say they didn't like his character. I thought he was very good, relatable and likeable, and also a believable hero who had good chemistry with the other characters. Plus I really liked the aspect of him being a former Stormtrooper who goes rogue and decides to help the Resistance because he's so disgusted with the First Order and wants to amend for what he's been apart of. That makes him more of a troubled hero and those types of heroes I tend to prefer to the usual boy scout types who are too perfect.

I liked him better in Attack the Block, they made him too comical compared to Attack the Block but . . . he may get there . . .

It's a great movie. Every John Boyega and Star Wars Fan should watch it. Your not a true Star Wars fan unless you've watched Attack the Block.

Boyega was brilliant in this movie. I loved Finn... everything about him was so genuine and believable. He has a heart of gold. He has a conscience. He's heroic. And on that note of his heroism, I liked how we initially see his very understandable fear give him pause, to later seeing him driven to do what he must no matter the risks to himself. I can't wait to see more of him in Episode 8, and it no longer bothers me at all if we do in fact find out that he is not Force sensitive.

Hahaha! "We'll use the Force!" I totally forgot about that line it was hilarious! That and when he started mimicking Hans facial gestures "why are you making that face!? I'm trying to come up with a plan!". The whole "traitor!!" thing was funny too, first the Stromtrooper then Kylo in the woods .

I'm 99% convinced he's force sensative...IMO the battle against Ben in the woods was a kind of forshadowing of Finns future as a trained lightsaber wielder (aka Jedi), I'm sure there will be a rematch at some point where the battle won't be so one sided.

Theres also Maz's words to Finn when he exclaims that he "needs a weapon" (referring to a blaster) which where: "but you ALREADY HAVE a weapon" (referring to Anakins saber) not to mention the novels lines about Maz seeing "a warrior" in him. I don't know about you guys but when she says "warrior" so soon after encouraging Finn to use the lightsaber I don't think of a soilder/resistance commander I think "future jedi knight".

I find myself constantly theorzing on where i think Johns character is headed ....I feel like Finns training will be headed by Luke after some sort of falling out with Rey. If Bens probing of Reys mind was accurate and she really did feel Han was like "the father she never had" then I feel like Luke (while being her biological father) isn't going to be the man she expects him to be, he's probably a broken man after losing his students and possibly his lover. These things coupled with some crazy revelations (like Luke never planning to come back for her after dropping her off on Jakku or Ben being revealed to have been the one to send her to Jakku as some sort of last act of love for his family) will drive her to join the Knights of Ren - specifically her cousin (maybe) Ben Solo, the only family she has left to turn to. Maybe she'll take him up on his offer to be her teacher? Especially now that his training has been completed by Snoke?

So where do I think Finn comes in? Well I think that like Maz says...she's "no Jedi" however she does "know the force". So what I'm thinking is that she will serve as Finns introduction to the force (akin to Obi-Wan with Luke) while Luke will finish his training like Yoda did for him.

I feel like Finn can see the good in people and he might end up helping "old man Luke" just as much as Luke will help him.... What I mean to say is that Finn will give Luke hope that not all is lost and he'll be convinced that Rey can be saved and that Luke has not lost her.....like Obi Wan in the PT I think Finn is going to be an "anchor" for the Lightside. He's pure hearted (something I think his final outfit in the film is meant to symbolize) and therefore is the perfect person to become a Jedi Knight, regardless of what his own thoughts might be on the matter ("im just a soilder", "I'm not destined for anything great" etc.).

JJ has spoken about how ANH - while being the first in a trilogy - also stood on its own (leia wasnt lukes sister and didn't have the force, Vader wasnt his father etc.) and how he wants TFA to follow suit. IMO TFA for Finn isn't about discovering the force in himself (thats 8 and 9) it's about choosing his own path and finding something and SOMEONE to fight for....its about leaving the First Order and finding a new family (Poe and Rey) and it's about leaving the name FN-2187 behind and becoming FINN.

Hahaha what? Yeah I watched it the second he got cast, it was really good. Someone on YouTube made a video replacing Moses's Katana with a lightsaber LOL.

You're not in the minority. Finn's character has been pretty widely praised.

While I liked Rey, I have to say that Finn (and Poe) are my current favorites. These two are electric. And it was a blast to watch them together.

Maybe it's just the really split reception TFA is getting but so many have said they didn't like his character and thought he was a poor lead. I'm glad to see others here liked him at least.

Sorry but Boyega was extremely annoying to me in this film. The whooping and screaming and the very contemporary phrases "did you see that! did you see that!" took me completely out of the film.

On IMDB and whatnot people are trashing him. But IMDB is such a magnet for trolls, spammers, generally rude and immature people, etc. so that's not a shock.

Allow me to remind you of a scene from A New Hope. Our heroes have just escaped the Death Star and Han and Luke are in the gunner seats fending off the TIE Fighters giving chase. "I got him! I got him!!!!" "Great kid, don't get cocky!"

This youthful exuberance that Luke displays in some of his first/early combat experiences is reflected in Finn's excitement with the same things. I wouldn't be surprised if in 1977 there were certain folk feeling that Luke was too excited, using language that was too contemporary.

When it comes down to it it's to each his own. If it takes any of us out of the film, it took us out of the film, it can't be helped. I just find I sometimes have to remind myself that my vision of what the galaxy far far away should be will not always match up. And oddly enough, one of the things I appreciate about TFA is that it's contemporary. The original trilogy were products of their time in history, but the PT felt like attempts at being futuristic and foreign to me(and now to my wife who is now begrudgingly watching the PT to get a historical SW lesson since she loved TFA so much). What I mean by that is the PT universe became something I couldn't relate to. I'm glad TFA feels like a contemporary film, the humor hits, the characters are relatable.

Of all of the criticisms I've read on this board about Finn/Boyega - the one that I HAVEN'T heard is that of his American accent. John Boyega was excellent...

I would have preferred they kept his British accent. I felt he struggled with the American accent a little and wasn't as connected as he is in his natural accent. But they probably want some kind of Mace Windu connection so they made him learn an American accent which is quiet difficult since he's still quite young.
