I think Snoke like Vader with Obi-Wan was left for dead after Luke stomped him in the past. He clearly has a saber wound to the head and what looks like his face was smashed in from trauma. As revenge he took Ben Solo has his apprentice. I'm betting when Leia 'let him go' it was because an adolescent Ben was jealous of a young Rey( or whatever her true name is) when the Jedi academy was in its infancy. Perhaps until her birth Ben Solo was the 'heir apparent' to Luke's legacy, here comes this snot nosed GIRL that is naturally more gifted. Ben Solo possibly got rebuked by Luke for outburst and left in anger.

A few questions....Who's Snook? Why would anyone choose the name Snoke or Snook when they had a cool name like Darth Plagueis? I mean he couldn't come up with anything cooler than Snoke??

    Snook Dog

    Bow wow wow

I hope he is Darth Plagueis...at least it would make sense and not Disney just pulling some new bad guy out of their butt, putting a hood on him and giving him force powers

There's not much we know about the ancient Sith in new canon, but The Clone Wars did provide some information about them.

We know their ancient homeworld is Moraband (basically Korriban), that some of their rituals involved torturing and sacrificing Jedi. We also know they were powerful enough to create and fight with super-weapons similar to the Death Star, using kyber crystals.

At some point, after many years of war (possibly centuries and millennia), between being hunted by the Jedi and fighting amongst themselves, they were mostly annihilated, except for Darth Bane.

For more info, go to the StarWars.com databank and look up:

    Darth Bane
    Moraband
    Death Star Superlaser

    There might be others.

Personally, I'd rather Snoke not be an ancient Sith. I like that we seem to be exploring more Force cults, it broadens our view of what the Force is and what it may mean to different cultures. There's something in the visual dictionary that makes me think Snoke is not Sith, nor maybe even part of any specific dark side cult. Something about Kylo Ren being the first of a new order of dark-siders to replace the Sith. I'll look it up later.

I just compared the Opera track on ROTS to the "Snoke" track on TFA and yes, it definitely is.

It is a good question as to how they would avoid talk of midichlorians if Snoke really was Plagueis. I wonder what people who believe Snoke is Plagueis think about that.

If they want to avoid the word, its as simple as just referring to manipulating The Force.

    Snoke's appearance/design was a complete let down.

They dropped the ball on him for sure. Its clear that he isn't that big since its a hologram.

I don't think it's relevant. You can have Plagueis without bringing up his ability to create life. And even if they did bring it up, like LunarMoth said they could just refer to it as creating life through the Force.

Are you asking if we liked it or of the resemblance it has to the music playing in the opera scene in RotS?

Or a cross between Exar Kun and Brakiss. Brakiss was used by the Empire to infiltrate the academy, only to flee before being successful at destroying the academy.

It's funny you mention Brakiss, because I was literally just wondering about that storyline. Brakiss eventually finds out that the "Emperor" he serves is just a facade maintained by a bunch of royal guards.

Could the same be true for Snoke? I read something earlier about him having no permanent location. Perhaps he communicates via hologram because "he" is not one person at all, but a group of individuals.

Though the day the new movies take their inspiration from the YJK...

It wouldnt really surprise me after reading Kylo Ren's lightsaber design is from way back according to the VD and Snoke may have influenced him to make it that way.

I really hope we get extended edition and one of the extended scenes involves Snoke. I think they cut his appearance down because it wasn't needed for theatrical cut, but me want for extended edition.
The part where he talks about watching Galactic Empire Rise and Fall and why it failed is really good. I think that has been filmed, they just trimmed it for cinemas.
