I don't think Luke put himself in exile because he was afraid of being killed. Rather, I think it was out of shame, and a desire to deepen his connection with the Force before he tried to build the Jedi again.

 

So here are my thoughts:

Film editing: Lol, what? The editing is one of my biggest gripes with the movie. The cutting of scenes like the Senate scene and Poe's survival, as well as the greatly lessened use of Lucas's screenwiping, really hurt TFA in this area for me.
Sound editing: Agree with this one. Both the sound effects and score are great
Visual effects: What? Star Wars pushes the effects boundaries. This movie did not.
Sound mixing: Lol, what? Williams's score was drowned out for a lot of the film, a first in a SW movie!
Score: Totally agree, the score is a masterpiece. How JW didn't win for TPM is beyond me (AOTC and ROTS both had heavy competition in LOTR and Batman so I am not as sour there).

 

I'm afraid Disney realizes this is there key to success from now on. Exploit OT nostalgia, Oscars galore. Try something completely different, forever be hated. SW Fandom can suck at times.

 

I used to like reading fanfiction. Then I read a Harry Potter one that disturbed me so much that I haven't read another one sense.

Tip: Just...stay away from the last like 10 pages. Domain of evil and all that. There is actual, good conversation in there too but it's not worth the trade-off.

This. The lightsaber duel was actually better than I expected. I just hope they reveal Rey had prior training otherwise it won't make sense story-wise.

Takadona was interesting, but outside of Maz's castle it was just trees. The only planet I really liked was Anchon-whatever (where Luke was). Maz's cantina was really cool though.

OK, yes, it was pretty funny. I just about died when Dagobahsystem busted out "is she going to be OK?" when EveningStar went off to read that fanfic and went quiet. It was so earnest and full of concern!

Still, I feel guilt for leading us down this path and trainwrecking the thread, though. I said I didn't want to see any unsettling fanfic!
