ST The relationship between Finn and Rey. SEE FIRST POST WARNING

She was more "grounded" because she HAD to be. Her day to day life demanded it. The only times that she was able to relax and lighten up a bit was around him and Han (which was also fun to see).

 

Ok so, the Reylo fans think that we are being unfair to their ship when they come in here, I think this kinda needs to be addressed, because obviously neither of our respective threads are going anywhere. I tried the debate thread idea so people who wanted to argue could argue, but I think it's collecting dust on page 4 somewhere lol. So, with that not being an option, how are we gonna go forward and be cool with each other? I think the fact that there's constant friction is kinda a shame, we are all here to talk about SW and what we love about it, and constantly worrying about arguments getting out of hand and threads being locked is kinda a bummer wouldn't you all agree?

Anyways I guess I'm trying to be the goodwill ambassador lol. How can we fix this?

 

I'm not being unfair, I find it creepy because it is creepy imo. What in their interactions during TFA in ANYWAY points to romance, as opposed to "try and kill each other the next time that they meet?" I'll wait.

 

It's might for the best that both sides stay to their cornor.

 

I think with the regular posters we can all learn to be respectful of each other. However, I think the Reylo ship is kind of shocking at first, and inevitably some people won't take it seriously. I told my husband that it existed and pretty much his only reaction was to laugh, and then tease me with some of Kylo's lines as though they're romantic (but clearly not). I mean, it's not like people shipped Vader with Leia or something (before they found out about the father/daughter thing).

But for myself I have found the thread really interesting because they are analyzing the movie from a completely different perspective than mine, and as a result I see things that I didn't notice. In no way does a romantic story between Rey and a mass murdering sociopath appeal to me, but I get what they're seeing now.

Edit ~ I sort of get what they're saying. When they post gifs of Kylo knocking her out and picking her up, and then act like they're swooning over the romance of it… well, I have to exit stage left because I'm kind of creeped out at that point.

 

Well I don't think that's going to happen. Also just fencing off opposing views isn't really conducive to people understanding each other. I guess thats my thing, even if we disagree there should be an understanding of where we all are coming from in regards to our ships.

I think ship talk goes in those ship threads but movie that can be had in the other threads, it really doesn't help to have reylos come here and tell us why they think we are wrong and us to go there and tell them why reylo disgust us. What's the point in that. I rather not have all out war. If anything let it be a cold war.

 

Lol, I totally am in the same boat with you. I didnt get Reylo at all, but they got me to a point where I at least can grasp it's appeal for some.

And you're right, for alot of people, based on what they saw in TFA, the viewpoint that Reylo is a romantic thing is pretty unorthodox. But they're into it, they buy it (believe me they do lol) so it seems fair to at least respect their view as legitimate even if it doesn't compute for us personally.

Yeah I don't get the imagery or the inferences they're making from all that stuff, but the background in fiction from that camp comes from a totally different place than mine. So they're making connections that I can't even identify lol.

 

I get why people like Reylo in that it would be a complicated unorthodox love story that if you put the work in could maybe possibly work? A beauty and the beast type romance.
My problem is that once he threw her against a tree like a sack of potatoes, I couldn't ever get behind that particular pairing.

I think he sticks around, there's really not another place for him to go, and I'm sure he's worried that the FO is out to get him still. What better way to be protected and ALSO make a difference than the Resistance?

 

Reylo is so silly, and so out there, and so not really going on that I'm not even concerned with it. At first, I admit, it kinda' annoyed me... but now... after thinking about it a bit, and seeing more of the typical people's reaction to it, I don't even really think about Reylo, because it isn't worth thinking about. It's something some tumblr nuts came up with, just like Stormpilot. There was nothing romantic between Finn and Poe. There was nothing signifying that Poe was gay. He did not set my "gaydar" off. It wasn't until I came online and saw a bunch of crazy crap that I even entertained the thought. Then, I watched TFA again, looking for things this time... and still... nothing. Just some nutty people seeing stuff that isn't there to fulfill their personal fantasies. Sure, those people seem like a big number, but they're a minority. I got faith in people again when I saw how the regular joe reacted to things like Stormpilot and Reylo. For example, check out the comments section on this site:

Regular folks coming to the regular conclusion. Not tumblr nuts coming to way out there conclusions.
I see Reylo as the same thing. I'm near certain that what the Reylos are thinking is happening, or wishing to happen... is not happening, and most people find it bizarre. So... like... I don't worry about them. I think it's a waste of time. Just let them be them.

 

Fair enough, and yeah I think theres ways to interpret just about any interaction between film characters as something more or less than what the writers intended. I think FinnRey is the most organic and obvious romance going forward, if there is to be a romance. That being said, I do engage in dialogue with the Reylos, cuz I'm a curious type and i want to understand the draw of that pairing. Also I'm up late and so are some of them usually.

 

Suggesting a romantic relationship between Kylo Ren and Rey is done at the expense of the available facts: the film. Unless there is supporting evidence for our positions we will be reduced to arguing the merits of our favorite ice cream flavor.

There are ZERO indicators of romance between Kylo Ren and Rey. ZERO. There were some thinly veiled references to rape when Kylo told Rey, "You know I can take what I want," but that was about it.

Rey tells Finn, "thank you, my friend," after kissing his forehead and he was friendzone'd.

Rey calls Kylo a "monster" and this is obviously the prologue to an amazing courtship. Ridiculous.

 

At no time, when I watched Rey and Kylo Ren interact, did I go, "Hmmm, I think they'll be a couple in the future". It was more like, "I hope Rey kicks his ass", and thankfully, she did at the end of TFA.
