If they studio are looking at this thread. Ther is NO WAY they will make her a Skywalker/Solo. But they need to satisfy the fans expecting a big reeal about her parents. So either she is A: Daughter/Creation of Palapatine/Snoke. B: A Kenobi or C: A Calrissian.

Well I can't explain from everyone's pov, but I can at least explain my reason, and maybe EU Fans reasons as well for wanting Rey to be a Skywalker. See, in the OT, Luke, kinda go the short end of the stick if you think about it. Sure he found his sister which is wonderful and is now a Jedi, which is great. But honestly out side of that, he doesn't get the same things that Leia or Han wind up having if you think about it.

Han became legit, recognized and also looked up to. His ego got a lot there and later he became a well known if not famous racer. We hear both Rey and Finn noting his notoriety. Rey says he's the famous smuggler that ran the corrilian run in 14 para secs, and Finn notes the whole General of the Rebellion. That's a huge step up from the whole Jabba situation he was in. Not to mention he wound up married to one of the hottest women in the galaxy and, due to marriage, became technically a royal. Not bad for a kid that's still probably an orphan.

Leia, she has it harder very true. She lost her whole world, but still has the love of the galaxy. She became one of the bigger names in politics, married Han, and ushered in a time of peace with her skills as a senator. She helped forge a whole lot of laws and helped to bring in planets and other things. As Lor states she's still seen as a princess and a royal and very much still as a huge deal. Both she and Han got to start a family, fell in love, etc.

Now look at Luke. Lost the only family he knew like Leia, then lost both his mentors, had to face his father alone with the probability that he wasn't going to draw his father back to his side. He was, in the original, supposed to walk off into the sunset like an old cowboy. I mean compared to Han and Leia the guy wound up with no significant other, even though he wanted one, he probably couldn't give details about Vader out, and then to top this all off he gets stuff ripped away from him.

In the EU he at least got to have a happy marriage with a wife and a child who both loved and treasured him. Now all that is again, gone. Vanished. And then you look at Rey, who grew up on her own, alone with people that cared about her sure, like Luke, but they died too. It's one of the reasons why she was invested in Han for that brief amount of time, he was a father figure to her. With wanting her to be Luke's daughter, those of us who want both him and Rey to have that family feeling that Leia had with Han. We want him to have had some sort of happy life and for Rey to experience that as well with a family.

It's one of the reasons I'm hoping for Ben to be redeemed so that Leia can have her family back, so that both of them can be happy and have a healthy relationship. Most people I've talked to have pretty much guessed she's Luke's. Again I can't say this is for everyone, but this is the main reason for me. As much as I want Rey to have a romantic relationship, I first and foremost feel she needs to have a family one so that she can grow more and figure out who she is ultimately.

    Does that make sense.

I know little about how Force Bond works in EU, but I wondered if it could be something that makes it possible for Kylo to track down Rey in the next film. I'm pretty sure that there'll be a confrontation between them, and possibly Luke and Kylo as well. And I do think that the Knights of Ren vision in TFA is something that will appear in the next fim. So how will this meeting come about? I guess one possibility is that they'll simply recycle ESB and create a trap that Rey rushes into so that she can save Finn or something, so hopefully they don't do that because that's rather repetitive.

That new Rey/Ren pic is absolutely magical BTW, I can't stop staring at it whenever it pops up in the thread. Whatever their dynamic turns out to be, I think they will always be compelling to watch together.

In all fairness Rey's origins were very likely decided and written long before The Force Awakens was even released in theatres, long before people ever decided she had to be a Skywalker. The big events of the Trilogy are already set-in-stone (or at least I expect they are). Script, dialogue, interactions, details and specifics don't matter all that much. I'm sure the writers have the overarching narrative plotted, because if they don't, the story will ultimately prove to be a huge letdown because they were working off a concept, not a real narrative. Take The Last Airbender vs. The Legend of Korra for example... with the first, the writers had an entire story plotted (beginning, middle, end). With the second, they didn't. They just worked off a vague concept, and it resulted in sloppy writing and characterization, seasonal Big Bads and a lack of compelling narrative structure. Writers should never take concepts and fly with them because 99% of the time it doesn't work.

Whatever ultimately happens in this Trilogy will happen because it was always meant to happen, because the writers wrote the story that way with a clear vision in mind.

I do wonder if the studio is keeping tabs on stuff xD

I understand the reasons you posted, and I think these are most people's reasons. I personally think that Luke's legacy is more than family, and I hope the ST honours his legacy.

For Rey, she's found a family, and she's finding a family in Luke. I don't think blood relations change that. In fact, I find that finding a father at this point would be repetitive, as she's found a father in Han. True that then people say: but why does Leia get to have everything? (Meaning family). But Leia is not a Jedi...

For most people, wanting Rey to be a Skywalker is about the desire of knowing Luke had a family, or at least a relationship. I wonder if that's really important. I think Luke's main thing is to reestablish the Jedi order and defeat evil. I don't know, he could have had a family as well, but, in Rey, a daughter he never met, a daughter growing up in extremely difficult conditions... I don't know, I can buy him not knowing about Rey, not sensing, etc, but then, what does it do for the story? What's the emotional payoff rather than giving Rey a pedigree? Cause the emotional payoff can happen regardless of blood relation. For blood relation, it would need to be a meeting with a long lost daughter, which, you know, did not happen. At this point, what's the meaning of a reveal for Luke?

Mmmmmm[face_dunno]I used to think the same thing about Arrow. Then they froced Olicity down our throats. I think the ending of TFA was left delibaretly vague to gauge fan expectations for these characters. When I first saw the movie my opinion was she was a skywalker. But reading this thread has changed my opinion. Now I like the idea of Rey not being a skywalker. I do not want to see these 2 get together. But I do want to see them sharing the screen together and having a sexual attraction to each other without the idea that they are cousins in my mind. I think the studio would be wise to try and please the audience demand for Reylo without shoving it down our throats. So a few scenes where they are together, forced to survive together, learning to appreciate each other and eventually Kylo risking his life to save her. Allude to a romance, but do not go the whole hog and have them rolling around in fields

This is from an older tweet. People then claimed his sexuality doesn't prevent him from having kids.[face_dunno]
(I know, I know there are bisexual people, and there are even homosexual people who try to be heterosexual, and can make kids... but iI can't see it happening in Star Wars. I'd think people need to get married to have kids, and I don't think Mark Hamill means that Luke was gay even though he married a woman, even though it might happen in real life...)

Anyways, I admire the passion of the Rey Skywalker supporters. [face_peace]
    Nothing stands in their way.

"Having Rey as a daughter in no way addresses his sexuality". Yeah, I've read stuff like that. Okay...[face_dunno]

But some tension is good, right? I can see the fear of having them rolling around in fields...
But yes, tension is better when released, then it's cathartic. I fear, if that happens, it will only happen in Episode IX. Either way, I'm sure Rey and Kylo's energy and attraction will be used in the movies, otherwise it would be a waste.
