ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

Upon hearing that Kylo is about to take his clothes off in Bacta Tank, Rey barges in, but receives cold shower:

To me that creature looks like something I'd see in The NeverEnding Story. Still looks awesome tho! I wanna know so bad why they're on that thing, and what they're riding away from haha

Here's my daily check-in before this thread moves another 10 pages.

Fun family story from this past weekend (and I swear that I'm not making this up):

My almost-4-year-old was sitting in my lap while I was reading this forum. In one of the posts, there was a picture of Kylo Ren and someone else (can't remember who, other than it wasn't Rey). The following exchange then happened:

Daughter: Is that Kylo Ren?
Me: Yes.
Daughter: Where's the girl?

Reylo...even shipped by preschoolers!

On another note, I think I actually made the "SQUEEEEEEE!" sound when I saw Pablo Hidalgo's tweet about Kylo showing off his piloting "skills" (however good or bad they might be) in one of the upcoming films. I can't explain why, but the anticipation of seeing Kylo fly something made me excited.

The I also started thinking... I know that we've speculated on here that one of the reasons that the Kylo-in-the-MF-cockpit scene got cut was to increase the emotional impact of a future scene where he enters the MF cockpit? And what if he entered the cockpit because he was going to pilot/co-pilot it? (They did seem to place an emphasis on the pilot of the MF preferably having a co-pilot in TFA, which I hadn't recalled the OT being so heavy-handed about...) Hmmm...

 

We need to keep a list of predictions but I bet Kylo will need to pilot the MF, possibly to escape.
Does the MF need a co-pilot for sure? I thought Chewie flew it alone to SKB to pick up Rey and Finn at the end.

Probably Pinewood. The next location we know about is Ireland in May. I don't know if they come up with something else for April, though.

 

It can be flown by a single pilot, but it isn't easy without a co-pilot....Rey also flew it by herself in the beginning of the TFA but she had problems reaching for some of the levels and buttons. ...so if they're being pursued, two pilots might be necessary.

 

Iceland and Mexico are on the list but not sure when. I would love to go to Iceland.

Pleeeease have a Rey and Kylo escape in the MF! Maybe Kylo in the pilot seat in the TFA deleted scene was too much foreshadowing.

 

Is he a character who was part of the empire but didn't die when the empire fell? Someone not really mentioned in the OT but a part of SW legends?

There was only one space horse... I used term "space horses" for fun, sorry if this sounded like misdirection.

 

I think we're on a good path, because we know that Rey Skywalker doesn't fit in any hero's journey archetype nor in the ring theory. Based on these narrative trends, Ben Solo has and will be back on the light side. His redemption is already begun and I, we, hope Rey will give him a hand.

Actually, it's not as unlikely as you think, and it certainly doesn't presuppose what you suggest.

The most important thing to mention from the outset is that Rey doesn't know who her family is - this is established explicitly in the Visual Dictionary ("[Rey] fantasises about a family she has never known"). I believe this is also supported by Rey's Survival Guide, which goes further and makes it clear that Rey doesn't know the circumstances of her abandonment. So if Rey met the person who abandoned her in Force Awakens, she wouldn't have necessarily recognised them because she doesn't remember who left her behind. She's waiting for her family because she assumes that's who left her - she doesn't know that.

As for Maz's words, they're intentionally open to multiple interpretations. They could easily mean that the person who left her behind her no intention of returning to Jakku for her, which would apply to Kylo if he were the culprit - he goes back to Jakku, but not to fetch Rey.

The timeline is the best argument against the Kylo scenario right now, but it's still possible if you take a step back and appreciate that Kylo leaving Luke's 'school' and the academy massacre didn't necessarily happen at the same time. It's possible that Kylo left with Rey, abandoned her in panic, went off to train for a few years and then returned to wipe the school out. Most people assume that Ben's departure and the massacre were simultaneous, and while that's likely it's not the sole possibility.

Bloodline should clear a lot of this up, and I'll be glad for it!

 

If there is no Reylo, I will be disappointed in that they lost a story that would have been amazing to tell. I won't rush to see the movie right away but will get over it.
However, right now the possibility is looking the best we have seen: Rey Solo debunked, Rey Skywalker is not looking good, FinnRey not looking good....

 

I really like the horse, not going to lie. The ears are super cute, love the tufty legs. But we're getting kind of off-topic and I feel like people are going to start reporting us for it (if you can even report for going off-topic). This will be my last post regarding this image.

I'm not going to make a big deal out of two people on a space-horse in a scene with no context. I'm just going to point out that he has his arms around her waist and is leaning in as if looking at something with her. The writers easily could have had them make two horses so Finn and this girl could ride separately, but they obviously didn't go in that direction. Finn is a main character so it's easy enough to assume that this girl is going to be at least somewhat important. Her clothing tells me she may be a Resistance member, which makes a ton of sense. Finn is also pretty touchy-feely. This might not be romantic at all.

So... why doesn't the jacket have a giant slash up the back of it? xD

As far as I'm concerned Maz's words are very straight-forward. You just have to be open to hearing the straight-forward interpretation and not twist them to mean what you want them to mean. Rey's "family" is behind, the belonging she seeks is "ahead". Rey's "family" is never coming back, but there is someone who still could. Rey assumes this person is Luke. Maz isn't talking about someone "coming back to her on Jakku", but rather Luke returning to his life and responsibilities. That is the most straight-forward and logical way to take her words, and generally the logical interpretation is the right one.

As for Ben Solo abandoning Rey, it's possible, but I personally doubt it. It would require so much exposition. There are theories that can be ruled out simply because they would be confusing to explain to the audience. "Ben met Rey, left with Rey, trained, came back, destroyed Luke's school, etc" opens up so many plot-holes that would require a great deal of exposition to fill. Not to mention the fact that the massacre and Rey's abandonment didn't happen a few weeks apart, but rather years. Why would anybody ditch a girl on a planet years before a massacre that could result in her death?

Sorry I'm just going over the last few pages and have a thought on the Kylo scar subject - bad boys often have distinguishing scars or tattoos in films/TV - so Kylo's just joining their ranks!!! Look a Deadpool!!! He had full on body scars but it didn't turn the audience away + for those Brits amongst us (+ others who know about English fictional characters) - having a facial scar (of course it's different) has not lessened the mass appeal of the character of Ross Poldark in the BBC adaption of the novels Poldark:-

(of course the scar is different but the sentiment is the same)

I think that Snoke will make him keep it as a permanent reminder of his weakness toward Rey with the idea that it will work to feed Kylo's anger and hate (you know a 'look what your compassion for the girl lead to, permanent disfigurement because you are weak' kinda statement from Snoke - trying to make Kylo hate Rey), but it could work in reverse against Snoke.

 

I think I have an idea what it is (or, what it tells)

 

Things between then may cool down a bit, at least on Rey side if Luke ever tell her some stories about Ben Solo. So that she could understand him more. I'm secretly wanting a scene where the two face each other while they both on missions at an event some sort on Dubrovnik based on the formally clothing that actors/actresses are wearing from the leaked photo. I want to see Rey in a dress and how Kylo would react if he see it, too

 

No, the line I heard wasn't about Snoke at all... the theme is much more interesting then Snoke and who he is. I'm still thinking about this line, I'll become obsessed with it! <3 My personal mystery box ppl! I don't won't to say anything coz we will all go crazy. I'll suffer in silence... thinking, thinking, analysing.
