Any hope you heard KMT character's name? I want to ship FinnTran. That Dumbo Horse scene looks like it's going to be awesome, one of those magical fantasy moments.

I've read several stories and seen several movies where scars, wounds, eye-patches or losing limbs (a hand in Jaime Lannister's case in ASoIaF, for instance) marked the starting point for a redemption arc. First, these men were handsome, smug and apparently arrogant, but then they fell from "grace", their luck ran thin and they came down in life. Only after their pride and their bodies got badly beaten and battered did they leave their old ways and changed for the better. It was the same with Kylo, for the first part of the movie he was the cool commander, the powerful bad guy your typical fanboys like, but then Rey turned up and as Snoke said, she is his weakness. Snoke said that Kylo failed not because of Rey's stregth but because of his own weakness for her, his compassion.

From the moment he met Rey, the cool persona evaporated and we got to know the real Kylo, insecure, unhappy, conflicted, scared and starved for human touch and affection. Then it was failure after failure for him and people stopped respecting him and fearing him (see how Hux and Snoke treat him).

Both Chewie and Rey wounded him badly, even Finn reached his body with the blue lightsabre. Then the people (apart from his mother) he cares more about wounded him (Rey and Chewie) and this must be more painful for him than the physical pain they inflicted on him. However, neither of them chose to end his life and this is important, because neither Chewie nor Rey found it in their hearts to kill Kylo/Ben when they had the chance to do it.

I had not realised at first that Chewie should have aimed at his head or his stomach, but he probably couldn't because it was Ben. I guess it was not a conscious reaction but he just couldn't kill the little kid he saw grow up. Similarly, Rey couldn't kill him either. She hurt him badly but didn't go for the kill. And for some reason Kylo is hers, as if everyone left in her hands the right to judge him and punish him, but she couldn't execute him despite what he did, the same goes for Chewie. Both left his skin scarred, as well as his soul, although the mental scar he bears for killing Han must be what is eating at him from inside.

Being Force sensitive, he can feel everyone's pain, especially her mother's terrible hear-break and Rey's pain and anger at him. All these things must hurt, but now that he is branded, defeated and beaten, he may be on the path to redemption, like similar characters in other stories. Only when he pays for what he did will he be allowed to atone for his sins and he must start paying with emotional and physical pain, with loss, humiliation and isolation. But I think that he probably started paying long ago, before he commited any crimes, because Kylo started his torment very early in his life although we still don't know exactly what happened to him and how this came to be. Perhaps it does make sense that his fugure is so tragic because he really must pay for really horrible actions.

One line also doesn't mean everything. I'm sure it's interesting. I still think it would be strange and random to assume the line was about Ren... because he wasn't present. Why would the director be talking about a character who wasn't even around in public? Makes no sense.

The biggest hurt/wound he's done to himself when he killed han. No one could ever hurt him more. That one will never heal, everything else - bowcaster, scar, other lightsaber wounds - will.

Was this line related to Kylo Ren then? (I'll stop there, just want to know if it concerns him)

come on man, you cant do that? :(

It's better to let us all know so that we dont all get out hopes up and continue writing 100000 page essays about something which may not happen...just sad..

Please tell us if it's to do with Reylo at least?

Exactly, I agree. Neither Chewie nor Rey could kill him, and Luke and Leia won't be able to do it either. This means that when he realises the magnitude and the atrocity of what he has done, he will feel so much paing, such agony, that he may think they should have killed him. Guilt is very powerful and heart-wrenching. When he realises that after his heinous crime, the most important people in his life, starting with Han himself, have forgiven him, he will be hearbroken and probably will have a death wish.

But Kylo doesn't give up, he will have to deal with it, and live with the pain and the consequences of what he did.

Also, I've always thought he is a man on a mission, at least in his own eyes, because that is the vibe the character exudes every moment. He is someone committed to the highest degree and the last consequences, although he may be tragically misguided and may have been deceived completely. His past, his real motivations and his goal in itself will justify a second chance for Kylo, probly the first, because for some reason he never had one. So, if Han, Leia and Luke forgive him and they will, because Han already did, Leia is his mother and Luke was generous enough to forgive Vader, and if Chewie and Rey didn't think it was their right to judge him and execute him, then who will deny him redemption?

You can say his victims, and it's true they might not desire to allow him tto have a second chance, but in time of war, when peace comes, many crimes are forgiven for the sake of peace and balance. And also, this is a story, and stories make possible anything the writers decide will happen , as long as they do it the right way.

Ohh.... it must be her origins....after seeing Finn with Tran's character, I'm less worried about Reylo....so wont trouble you with questions and you can make the reveal whenever you're ready. :)

So I've been thinking about this all day...

Something I feel like a few people in this thread don't understand is the difference between redemption and "erasing" one's crimes. Ren will never be able to erase or forget what he's done... but in the grand scheme of things his sins will have very little to do with his redemption arc or his atonement. They will impact the way other characters see him, but everything else will be his decision. Redemption is not contingent on ultimate forgiveness, not even a little bit.

As soon as Ren starts to accept the Light and does something big to help the good guys he'll be redeeming himself. Redemption does not = doing good deeds that measure up to past bad deeds. There is no tally sheet that Ren will have to fill in order to start lending a hand. He'll just do it, no questions asked. He'll do what he feels is right. There are no rules that say he won't be able to reunite with his mother unless he "serves x number of days in prison", and there are certainly no laws that state he can't help without "proving himself" worthy first, or that he can't allow his connection with Rey to fill him with Light, hope and love, to give him the chance that was ripped from him in childhood.

There is no way to erase what he's done, but when Ren stops performing heinous acts and begins to do the opposite that will be the end of it. Does that erase everything he's done? Hell no, but let's say he really is aided by Rey, betrays Snoke and helps Rey, his mother and former master... will you expect them to deny him the chance to do real good? To atone? To prove to his family and those who love him most that he truly regrets his actions? To grieve for the father he took from the world?

What is there to doubt? Forgiving and accepting Ren will rest on the shoulders of other characters, but the decision to seek redemption is 100% Ren's. It is Ren's burden. That redemption will be not be difficult to write in the least bit. Good writing requires that it be satisfying. It will be challenging for his character, but isn't that the whole point of all of this? Isn't that the journey we're all invested in seeing?

Im really worried now, I just hope it cant destroy Reylo. Can you at least hint if the line is about Luke and Rey? Did it draw that concluson, because I'll be honest, I'd rather know and then just leave the thread, then believe for 2 years that reylo can happen and find out they are related..I think I might vomit in my throat...lol

That's what I was thinking. How awesome would it be if Kylo and Rey had to pilot the MF together to escape something?

I *think* what it will be is that Luke is not her father (good) but who her father/mother is is what's confusing or concerning to what Sforza heard. So maybe she is dark side.

I would be down with anything that is not Solo/Skywalker. Kenobi would be a good story. Dark side or royalty would be a potentially good story to tell too.
