ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

Apparently in the novelization Ren says something about how he "often meditates by looking at the stars, that he could stand for hours and take in their beauty." Soooo yeah looking more and more like that was little Ben Solo. There are several small scenes in this movie of him staring at the sky. Also Ren is ALWAYS represented with stars behind him. A night sky full of stars... which of course makes sense because #StarWars, but yep:




And this because "why not". Also it has the reverse of Rey and Ren's themes in it and is called Across the Stars.



LOL someone just commented the video I made comparing Ren's theme/Rey's theme/Across the Stars and he was like "I disagree with this theory." Too freaking bad. Take it up with John Williams. I didn't write the songs xD

 

I have to confess that the "Leia is Snoke" theory has some appeal to me, because if it was actually done well, like The Usual Suspects or Christopher Nolan well, then it would have the potential to be mind-blowing and incredibly gutsy. But I totally agree, it would be incredibly hard to pull off and not have it seem stupid. Also, I just don't think they'd have the nerve to blow Leia out of the water like that. Having a dark side son is probably as far as they are willing to go with her.

Lucasfilm had tried extremely hard to make his hair fabulous and L'Oréal-esque in the interrogation scene with Rey.

 

Wow, that's a great find! I'm getting excited at the prospect of seeing young Ben Solo. Dec. 2017 can't come fast enough

 

Dont know about anyone else, but Im fully expecting some Reylo epicness to come out in the next two movies. We only got but a taster..First theres the attraction

then the next movie will have flashbacks of eachother and feelings develop (rey's hatred turns to confusion)

third movie most likely the realisation/acting upon of those feelings...and one epic mother of something between them right at the damn end, with twists and tears and near death and revival and love..


And no, the whole movies are not going to be based around this, they dont need that much screen time with Reylo...it can be done within about 10/20 minutes in each movie.

Look how little there was in this movie, and look how epic they already are.

And just look at how Rey has the Sun and the Stars over her shoulders, blocked in by Kylo's saber and her staff

Meanwhile, we've been increasingly happy with every single "real" leak and every bit of new information, and they've been slowly losing all their theories to the plague that is canon. Funny how analyzing a narrative within the parameters of genre, target-audience and past instalments can actually give you information about the future of the current storyline. I doubt we'll be right about everything, but damn, we're doing pretty good so far.

 

I am still back-reading here but I fully agree with the young!Ben Solo interpretation of these scenes.

I read over in the in the Magniloquent Discourse spoiler discussion thread that some of the Dubrovnik scenes are rumored to take place in Leia's summer palace or something like that. "Quite thin young man" sounds like Ben Solo, especially if he was tall? It would make sense if young Kylo had been at his family's summer palace at some point, gazing at the stars in a stolen moment. If Rey picked up on that moment through the Force, feeling Kylo's pain/loneliness/seeking of something and can relate to it, it makes sense for her feelings to be conflicted; he's supposed to be a monster, not a confused young man in pain, facing the same struggles as her at 20 years of age.

On leaving the theater from my first TFA viewing I had such a strong sense that Kylo Ren/Ben Solo was Anakin Skywalker done right. That impression decreased over time because Kylo Ren has become more "real" to me as a character and an entity separate and differentiated from Anakin Skywalker with each subsequent viewing and discussion about him here. But I feel like that first impression was very true. Lor San Tekka said "This will make things right" and I read all sorts of foreshadowing into that. I don't want to bash the PT, but I do believe the concept of Anakin and his arc was brilliant, but its execution left a lot to be desired, especially the love story component, which is key to that character. This trilogy can make all of that right. The romance between Rey and Ren is poised to be connected to the Anakin/Padme story as an improved, more complex and well executed version of an epic Star Wars love story. Hopefully with a happier-ish ending, lol.

Dude, the more I think of these things that Sforza shared, the more the Reylo Force bond seems to play into that scene.
Anyway, thank you Sforza for sharing what you saw and heard, and thank you FrolickingFizzgig for helping to interpret, and everyone else who talked Sforza into spilling the beans. I am more encouraged now that Reylo is endgame.

And I think we need someone from this Reylo community present at each of the major filming locations so that we have eyes and ears on the ground like with Sforza in Dubrovnik. Who will volunteer as tribute? Time to cash in those credit card miles. u_u

Goddarnit, he's so sexy... I don't care that he's the villain. I admit his walk alone is enough. I remember seeing the first teaser trailer where he stalks into the snowy woods and unveils his flashy lightsaber and thinking there was something so entrancing about his body language. And I'm fully convinced Adam Driver's amazing command of his body and the things he can do with it inspired his casting among other things. When they showed that scene with the "Forgive me, I feel it again... The pull to the light" I was a goner

 

If any of the filmmakers looked at this thread and Reylo is the way they are going...I bet they are so happy that they made the right choice with Adam..it paid off.

He really does have an amazing walk, like John Wayne very distinctive. The costume only amplifies the effect.

 

Those posters are surprisingly red and militaristic looking. Very interesting.

 

I think people's reading of the film very much depends on their personal beliefs and the community they belong to. I am sure there are certain segments of the population that are quick to see redemption stories, and they tend to talk to each other. Others will tend to find the idea of redeeming a bad guy morally repugnant, and they will reinforce their beliefs. Both are going to feel a lot of passion for their perception, because it is partly (imho, and not trying to offend) driven by pretty deep value systems that people have developed. We're talking about, in some cases, two takes on the same story that cut all the way down to the way the viewers see the world and how they view humanity in general.

Dismissing others' beliefs about the story is going to make them very angry because it feels equivalent to dismissing their worldviews and values.

I try to remember this. I passionately believe that there is a redemption arc in this story, and that all the literary evidence points in that direction. But people always have been able to read art in such a way that it confirms their beliefs and values, so for the meanwhile (and maybe even after the final films are out) there will always be people who strenuously disagree.

 

Thankfully Finn and Tran appear to be quite "together" in some way, so hopefully we don't get some lame love-triangle. I have never enjoyed a single love-triangle in my life, and I have a feeling the general populace shares that sentiment.

Anyway, the whole horse riding thing is a pretty famous romantic trope. You don't shove two characters on an animal in that position for no reason. Nope, nope, nope. This is where understanding motifs actually comes in handy. I simply cannot imagine that scene not teeming with some kind of chemistry, even if they're on some kind of recon mission and it's meant to be cute and humorous. That's what Boyega's truly great at, and I've heard the same of Tran. Either way it's clear Finn and Tran are going to have quite a few scenes together if they're going to be getting to be that comfortable with each other.

I agree, the fact that it takes place in Leia's summer home, the fact that it's apparently a flashback, the fact that the young man is staring at the stars... all of it points to this man being a young, lonely Ben Solo. It makes so much sense for him to meditate while observing the sky. As MyOnlyHope said, it's Ren's version of Binary Sunset. Just beautiful.

Then there's the fact that all of this included the director saying "This scene is all about REY'S confused feelings." Ummm what? Isn't it a flashback about Ben Solo? Why would it be about "Rey's" feelings? Rey isn't even in the scene? Unless... Force Bond. Ah yes, the lovely Force Bond. The glorious, masterful perfection that is the Force Bond.

I am really loving the posters, very military very propaganda feeling- someone is totally out to get (at least) Leia due to her Vader connection, possibly from inside the New Republic. If this takes place before Ben's fall, he could very well be implicated as well- no wonder he wouldn't trust the New Republic. And gives a whole new angle on his "Murderers, thieves and traitors" line.

 

I'm also thinking this has something to do with the reason Leia doesn't like being called royalty anymore? It is interesting...sounds like their family went through a lot.

 

Yeah, AD can act hands down. With mask, without mask, really great command of body language and voice. "Forgive me..." and "he means nothing to me" you can feel crying snot in his voice.
