ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

It's a typo. I meant to write "Do most of the [forceback] scenes in the novel also include Kylo Ren as a central figure, like in the film?"

 

No - though it's hard to say that because the visions are more chaotic in the novel and the people who appear in them aren't described in detail. For instance, Rey hears the voice that says "I'll come back for you, sweetheart" and searches for the person in the forest, and then runs into someone. In the film that someone is clearly Ren, but in the book the figure isn't recognisable.

I really think the boy in the vision is supposed to be Ben. It just makes sense as Kylo Ren is so heavily featured in her vision otherwise. Furthermore, I believe the old call sheets suggested there was supposed to be a scene in the vision showing Han and Leia leaving Ben with Luke.

JJ cut a lot of dialogue in the movie. I read that JJ was really influenced by Kasden who emphasized "showing" rather than "telling" a story. The last duel between Rey and Kylo has been called visual storytelling by Ford (in a tweet where he spelled Kylo as "Kilo" lol) and by Driver in an interview. This description likely originally came from JJ and Kasden.

In my opinion, this emphasis on "showing" rather than "telling" is not very common in typical blockbuster movies. I think many people are used to being told what's happening in movies, in conjunction with being shown what's going on, so if it's only shown, it sometimes isn't as clear what's going on. Perhaps one example is the scene where Kylo kills Han. Many people didn't initially see Kylo's shock and weakness after what he did what he did because he didnt say anything that would clearly emphasize he was weakened or shocked. He showed it, but didn't emphasize it verbally.

 

Not necessarily. They could have done it with a figure silhouetted against a light source, just enough to suggest a male human child. The fact that they didn't put the scene in suggests it's not absolutely necessary to the rest of the story.

 

Nah, little little boy is Ben. What Girl??? c'mon, it's obvious. He had visions. Also, Ren is the only character in visions that breaks the fourth wall. but, either way, the boy wasn't so important for TFA to keep him. perhaps because they want to cast Ben for bigger scenes.

 

I guess there would be ways to get around it, if it were deemed important enough to include. I still tend to think it was a young Ben, and by cutting that scene they save something for the future (for instance, if Rian knew that he wanted to feature Young Ben extensively in VIII, it would make sense that one of the changes in the forceback he'd request might be "cut Young Ben, I want to save him for later."

Funny that you guys mention Ren gazing at stars in the novel. I didn't remember that at all.

Reminds me of the Coldplay song "A Sky Full of Stars" from Rey's official playlist. Eerie how well the lyrics fit if you think of them being from Ren's point of view. (Actually many of the songs on Rey's playlist sound like they could be from Ren's point of view.)

IMO Disney are all but hitting us over the head with some of the songs on both Kylo and Rey's playlists that are so very Reylo yet some people continue to ignore what's right in front of them.

 

BrehaSolo And never forget the official collaboration with EXO, Lightsaber, the lyrics of which make Reylo as clear as clear can be (at least as a marketing choice).

I'm not so sure. Leia's words "Luke is a Jedi but you are his father" seem to indicate that Ben needed a father and Luke had no father touch. he trained kids but didn't raise them. As in Luke himself isn't a father so he doesn't understand and doesn't know how to approach a child who needs one.

So what happened to Ben was really a mix of several circumstances. he is very likely, I'd say 99.99% the "hot spur-of-the-moment sex" baby. he was born shortly after the fall of the Empire which hints that he was not planned. having a baby so soon doesn't fit either Han or Leia character unless it was an accident which it seems to be the case. So two unprepared parents, with different personalities and interests in life (Leia an idealistic politician, Han a cynical wanderer and adventurer), had to juggle their life together, their separate interest and the prodigy FS baby with the dark shadow hovering over him. recipe for disaster. Good people unprepared for situation that turned really bad.

Two movies was all Han & Leia needed. In the first movie all they did was bicker and fight then the next movie it was on. Right now history seems to be repeating it's self...with their son.

 

I'm convinced Ben was conceived during or the night of the Wild Ewok Party (WEP) in Return of the Jedi.

 

They're not going to believe it because it isn't confirming Rey Skywalker (even though Rey Skywalker was debunked in the movie itself). I have no reason to doubt Sforza. Her information does match up with pictures we've already seen, and she took many photographs herself.

 

And Disney knows about this?

 

Makes me feel uncomfortable somehow. I mean this is a public thread so whether the name is written or not, it's easy to find out. But ok, not my call and it's probably only a tiny drop in the sea.

Whether what Sforza heard will make Reylo a romantic canon or not, we cannot know, but even without hearing anything it's logical that Rey would hear about Ben Solo from Luke and have conflicted emotions. Not that her emotions aren't conflicted already. Everything that JJ has said in interviews and TFA documentary about what influenced Ben's fall is sympathetic to the max. JJ even related his own childhood trauma (parent's divorce) to Ben Solo. So, yes, Rey is going to be sympathetic and compassionate to him and where they will go from there is anyone's guess. However, I know that based on what's in the movie, this is much more logical progression that could lead to romantic love than arguments given by the opposition justifying other ship that have no support in the movie. For example, saying that Other Pairing would be good because it's interracial is not about what's in the movie nor it's unique for that pairing considering that there are several combinations in the movie that are interracial themselves and thus if you deem one pairing important than others are just as important because of the same aspect (Finn and Tran, Tran and Poe, Rey and Tran, Poe and Rey, Finn and Poe, Poe and Jessica Pava, Finn and Jessica Pava, Hux or Kylo with Tran or Jess or Finn or Poe, etc) . Moreover, saying that other SW romances had lots of struggle so it would be different if this one didn't but was smooth sail is also what-I-want-to-see-cause-my-own-preference vs what's in the movie and makes logical progression. So far, Reylos are sticking to what's in the movie which is the way to go.
