ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

Yeah, there are ships you fully expect to become canon, and then there are ships that you just ship without any possibility of canon. (and even pairings you don't ship, but know they will become canon) It is a spectrum of shipping

I have all, but the reylo is definitely in the first group.

 

I'm all for Padme rehabilitation. Seriously, ST will have fantastic opportunity to link 2 other trilogies through surviving characters and new generation. Leia, Luke and Ben need to talk about Anakin AND Padme. Especially if Dubrovnik indeed stands in for Naboo as some think based on that space horse. Like, these are Ben's great aunts:

It's funny you say that actually, HP had a lot of interesting love plots. I suppose I have been a shipper for a long time and did not realize. I go by gut feeling mostly when I see one character is in love with another and decide if they will end up together. Usually........I am right with the gut feeling of the way things will go down.
I remember when I started reading the Sherlock Holmes series, I was fascinated when Sherlock became....intrigued with the character Irene Adler in Scandal in Bohemia.
I couldn't really put much effort into the hope that Irene might return in the series of books, each book has a different story with hero, sidekick and villain. From what I recall no other character that was in a previous tale returned again. It has been awhile since Sherlock Holmes took over my life. Also Sherlock was never going to end up with a woman because he was more interested in his studies etc. So.....yea shipping him and Irene was never gonna happen. In the first book Study in Scarlet, Watson attempts to try and figure out why Sherlock is not interested in the Universe. He responds with something along the lines of "what benefit would it have to the world if I put my energy into that, my brain is like a room and nothing that isn't beneficial to society will ever enter it"...... Something along those lines, as well as thinking that intimate relationships are a distraction. So yes, him being intrigued with Irene was very brilliant because his character wasn't written to be with a woman.

 

He's the son of the two greatest snarkers in the SW universe... no wonder he turned up the same. Their snark is worse than their bite lol.

I must have missed that part of Kylo ‘enjoying torture’, could you elaborate on that? I don’t recall reading it… weird.

I personally find the junior novel better because it expounded some things more than the adult version ever did, like Han and Kylo’s exchange in the bridge, Leia’s feelings in the aftermath, Rey’s darkness in the snow fight, etc. Some stuff from the adult version were left ambigious.

Yes to more Padme! I was actually thinking it'd be cool, if Dubrovnik is Naboo, that Leia would have a portrait in the mansion of Padme as queen!

 

Suddenly I have this strange urge to see Rey try on one of Padme's dresses, especially the Lake Gown Dress,. She would looks stunning!

Reylo is in the first group because they make sense narratively and that's the only way you can see if ship is going to sail or not. They are set for a major character progression. There will be progress in a relationship between Rey and Kylo because it's unfinished at this moment. Rey saw Kylo's darkest, lowest point in life. She herself experienced a highlight (picking up the saber) and the darkest moment (branding disarmed Kylo). So that's a situation that's bound to develop. It will not stay like that. They'll move towards understanding, sympathy, compassion and love is already on his side so whether she will love him too remains to be seen. But that would be logical progression after understanding, sympathy, compassion which means that he does something and she learns something about him AND herself that makes her see him differently than at the end of TFA. OTOH, characters like Rey and Finn have arrived to their destination within first 5 minutes of the movie. They became fast friends so making them a romantic couple would be a repeat of what we've already seen only with occasional kissing. No progress. Romance has to drive characterization forward. There's nothing like it in this case because their development as a duo was over before it started. They went from "Not sure about you" to "OMG trust you with my life" within seconds because the plot needed it. They can't retcon it and put them in position of forced tension cause that would be bad writing. And their friendship was sped up because they were never meant to be a romantic couple. When 2 are slated for romance, they always drag their tension for as long as it take, they never make them insta buddies.

 

Ok you all really need to check out the Kylo Ren Facebook page...over 130,000 people like it, and they just posted an extremely Reylo picture (the one that was posted a few pages back...the Knight of Ren and the Scavenger Girl). Before that they've recently changed their banner to the famous saber shot....also there are various commenters that ship it. Also the picture has over 1,200 likes!

Someone asked (about a gazillion pages ago!) if any pairings we had shipped had ever sailed.

I was downbeat at the time about my shipping success rate because I was focusing on those couples who ended up becoming the canon OTP. Actually, apart from two characters I shipped who I knew would NEVER be canon in any form, all my ships have sailed in some form. Spuffy and Sooric did not go on to be the canon OTP, but there were other factors to consider in both cases. Heck, even Clannibal became canon (in book if not movie form!) I guess I could count Samantha Carter and Jack O'Neill in Stargate SG1 as a failure, but they still happened in some form.

Even if I don't ship a couple, like Richonne in The Walking Dead, I can pretty much see it coming from a mile away!

The only ships that have surprised me are the ones that make no sense whatsoever either story-wise, chemistry-wise or any other way.

The person that's with Finn's double wis more likely Kelly Marie Tran's double,not the actress herself since it's been reported she's not in Dubrovnik.
That girl is too short to be Chloe plus the clothing is very Rey unlike.

Maybe Leia can have a flashback vision once she sees a statue or portrait of Padme... her sense of her mother seems stronger than her brothers's.

 

Yeah, looking at the spacehorse, the woman in front is much shorter than the man in the back whereas Rey and Finn are nearly the same size.

I completely agree. Something clicked there. The last time I watched the movie I watched AD's face like a hawk and he literally morphs from being tearful and almost hopeful to this steely face with a kind of blankness behind the eyes. That's why I always love @panki's research and theories. I remember there being one about the power to "summon the darkness". I think Snoke could have played a role -or- the killing of the sun was "so against nature" that the dark side just flooded the place, and since IMO Kylo/Ben is just so unstable with how the force affects him at times that I think that darkness momentarily just took him over like a ocean wave, literally knocking down everything else. But he's not furious like other darksiders. He lets Han touch him, but he does seem a little "Manchurian Candidate-ish" at that moment. He stays that way until it hits him (or the light fights back or realization returns ... however you want to say it) and he gets that utterly gutted look of shock on his face, like he's lost his breath or something, the same look Leia gets a second later.

 

I think the portrait of Padme only mention in comics, the a scene in the comics where Leia went to Naboo and feels that the eyes of the queen in the painting (Padme) follows her around

 

Not crazy about Padme's OTT dresses and headdresses (too distracting when distraction wasn't needed) but these are my favorite looks:

That's true about the Ileenium System. He might not even care if he lives or dies at that point. I wonder if it's just the utter despair that causes the darkside to just take him over.

 

That brings back memories of being in my grandmothers home. When I would walk down her stair case, there was a picture of jesus on the cross and his eyes would follow me down the stairs. It was terrifying!

 

Padme's home had lots of "moving images." It'd be cool if Leia just kept those for herself, if she got from her Naberrie relatives
