I mean at least this makes sense in context with the scene.

This series is fun! A definitely underrated time period in both the legends and canonverse.

Another great issue, beautifully drawn. When I read it, I just get lost in it. It's definitely the book I look most forward to each month. (I read this first, wrote this post and then plan on reading SW #17.)

    *SPOILERS*

+ I didn't realize Palpatine's influence on Anakin started when he was so young, but it makes sense. It's amazing that something as simple as changing the way a chance cube lands can change the way a senator will spend his life (gambling his planet's money) (and the obvious parallel for Anakin thanks to Qui-Gon)

+ Anakin unfortunately being double manipulated in this issue, but both were really well done

+ No wonder Obi-wan is always yelling at Anakin about his lightsaber. He loses it all the time. :)

+ Obi-wan and Grecker's conversation. Obi-wan has really doubted himself for a long time. I wonder if we'll see him talk to Yoda about it (in a flashback). We know that Anakin doesn't leave the order so I'm really looking forward to how he decides...if Obi-wan convinces him to stay or maybe something happens to Anakin on Carnelion IV that changes his mind.

I'm enjoying this series so far mostly because of the sinister undertones of the coruscant flashbacks. This issue's flashback was particularly interesting as it basically showed Palpatine manipulating Anakin for the first time.

Today he's shifting chance cubes for him, one day he will be slaying Jedi....

Isn't what Anakin did with a cubes, like, a good thing? I get that Palpy was manipulating him to do something he wanted, but he still did the right thing?

As presented by Palpatine, maybe. Do you know anything about that Senator other than what Palpatine said though? I would never accuse him of lying (he almost never does), but I would one hundred percent accuse him of leaving out inconvenient truths.

Would have hoped to see more about the whole Open/Closed thing in this issue, but oh well, can't complain when there's gorgeous art and good characterization all around.

    Palpatine [face_love]

The point here is that, as always, Palpatine is teaching Anakin to go towards "the ends justify the means." He presents a laudable goal, and a non-Jedi approved way to fix things. The conclusion becomes, fixing things is more important than Jedi strictures. This is especially true when they had that dialogue about Jedi teachings removing individual choice: Palpatine ties that in to slavery, then presents the senator as someone who profits by slavery, thus putting Jedi strictures in direct antithesis to both "what's right" and to opposing slavery.

Palpatine's laugh at the senator's loss also says a lot. He's pretty much laughing (IMO) because he's just had confirmation that with the right words and motivation he can get the chosen one to do whatever he likes therefore the revenge of the Sith is that bit closer to coming to fruition.

Yep. I think that everything Palpatine said about the senator was true--everything in that Tarsunt's behavior implicitely confirms that. What's "wrong" is the way Anakin handled the situation. What would Obi-Wan have done? Probably try and trace proofs of corruption and forward it to the Senate.

Now... what would Qui-Gon have done?

After watching the movie "Spotlight" last night it unfortunately mad me think of Palpatine in this issue. In the movie, a priest would identify a child from a broken home, spend time with the child, be there for the child to talk about things, take the child for ice cream, then decide to show the child a pornographic magazine and then it gets worse from there. I know Palpatine has no intention of molesting Anakin physically, but he is very much manipulating him emotionally and it's very disturbing that not only that it happens but how effective it is without any Force use whatsoever.

That was my thought. The senator seemed particular loathsome; could Palpatine have been clouding Anakin's view of him with the Force? Would Anakin have sensed something like that? Either way, their scenes together are gold.

I'm not that engaged with the narrative on Carnelion IV, but Obi-Wan's insecurities are fascinating.

Awesome issue, this miniseries continues to amaze me 8/10 :)
+I love Carnelion IV and all of the lore and creatures, makes the issues more interesting
+I love the Anakin/Sheev subplot so much, it's even better than the main plot IMO
    +Great art as always
+The main story is also very good
+I love the Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship and it's interesting to see it at this early stage.

    Favorie Quote of the Issue
''Could these abilities be used to move, perhaps.... a chance cube ?''- Sheev Palpatine

I liked it, can't wait for the next one!
    - What are those machines exactly and how will they help Praun and her allies I wonder?
    - Do they really think Anakin will help them after they kidnapped him?
    - Anakin this lightsaber is your life! [face_laugh]
-I loved Palpatines interactions with Anakin.
    - It was too short.

It seems to have overwhelming positive feedback. I personally find it bland for the most part. I can most def see why people like it, though.
