All I really know for sure is that the writers and toys and show were american, Japan had several similar but different shows and toys before it and the movie in '86 is awesome.

 

I didn't mean to sound flippant. It's just that I associate them both with the same feelings of nostalgia. I actually preferred Poison at the time anyway.

 

Yep. Sums it up. I remember seeing the 86 film in 2005 and I was familiar with Armada and Energon, so the fact that Megatron didn't turn into a tank was weird. Also Optimus dying had me shook.

I loved my Soundwave and his tapes. God I loved those tapes! I hadn't thought about that in a long time.

 

That film was the first I asked my mom to take me to.

 

I heard some kid locked himself in his bedroom for 2 weeks after Prime died.

 

Frenzy Laserbeak Rumble Ratbat Ravage and Buzzsaw where the tapes I remember.

 

That was me. Kidding but I really was upset about that for a long time.

 

I remember crying in the Sears at the mall right after we saw it.

 

Laserbeak and Buzzsaw were the birds, right? And Ravage was the panther? Those were the ones I had.

 

Yes sir. There was also a gorilla and another bird one I believe.....I think they combined to form Squakbox or something....

 

It's probably a really good thing that Optimus went down early in the film

That sounds like a later development. I don't think the tapes could connect in my day. The Constructicons were the first ones to do that.

Yep. 86 I believe is where the combiner teams really came in. Protectobots Stunticons and Combaticons. Headmasters and Targetmasters were 87, Pretenders and Power masters were 88 and 89 and 1990 had micromasters and action masters.
