This doesn't mean Ben wasn't doing bad things prior to the academy slaughter. Don't forget that Anakin slaughtered an entire Tusken village, including women and children, in AOTC.

Even in TPM, Yoda sensed problems with Anakin:

Oh, it's been brought up....and then people argue that Leia should be the one going to her brother, not this simple "scavenger".

Simple out on those JJ comments: her "parents" could be who raised her, but not who she is biologically descended from. I.E. Luke had a one-night stand, never knew Rey existed.

 

If you believe what JJ says at a major venue filled with reporters . . . Then he debunked all people in TFA as Rey's parents. Which wipes out Han, Leia, Luke, Snoke . . . I guess that Rey Random, Rey Darkside, and Rey Kenobi are still in the running.

Unless he's lying.

Ugh I'm done. I'm never going to have the same appreciation for TFA or the sequel trilogy if Rey is random.

 

OR... under grave circumstances had to let her go mimicking Vader's relationship with Luke and Leia somewhat...

 

I can't believe this is actually a shock to people, but that's just me.

 

I guess they finally decided that clinging to Rey Skywalker was harming the franchise more than it was helping the buzz. Now the opposition to the story they are most likely trying to tell (in my opinion) will greatly decrease.

See we said she was not a skywalker. I'm sorry for those who were deeply invested in Rey skywalker but to me it was always clear she was a kenobi not a skywalker it's not a surprise to me

The ending tells you that she is a kenobi the way the script is written there also tells you she is a kenobi

 

Whelp, if she's really just Rey Random, congrats everyone who wanted that to be the case moving forward. I'll check out Episode VIII but if it turns out she's not Luke or Leia's daughter, I'm done with Star Wars. I was already on the fence about the franchise based on everything that's come out since Disney got the license and this is enough to turn me off. But at least I still have the old EU!

 

Geminiwankenobi, So because JJ "debunked" the easy to tell story of Rey Skywalker you're going to believe that Rey is a Kenobi, which is a lot harder to re-establish with only 2 movies left. Nah, he kept it such a secret saying ANYTHING at all up to this point, and now he chooses this venue to reveal it?...... I don't believe that for a second..

 

You would be surprised. It completely ruins the sequels for me at least.

 

And now I don't even want to watch Force Awakens again if it's such a copy-paste of A New Hope for no reason...

Then again, he did say Cumberbatch wasn't playing Khan...

I tweeted, and I am sure others have. Pablo seems not to have been online for a while. He said a few days ago that it wasn't for him to say, and not on twitter. Maybe this is the better venue.

I'm sorry. (I actually am.) While I am glad to see that Rey is not a Skywalker (as I had argued here over the last few days), I have learned over the past months on this forum how important it is to many fans that she should be.

I have been deeply disappointed by storylines in the past in other franchises and series.

 

The story that will be told is not a copy and paste of ANH at all. Don't worry Drewton - the Skywalker line will continue.

In which case we have to assume Daisy also could be and Rey Solo is back on the table.

Yep Im saying she is a Kenobi.

I did not walk into that cinema with any inkling of who she may be and I left thinking she was a Kenobi for various reasons..the ending being the biggest tell tale moment ever.

Then I saw how the script explained the ending..Luke knows who she is and her response to this is to give him his fathers light saber as a plea to prompt him back to the quest..then Luke looks in amazement at this because Obi Wan did the exact same thing. Its going to be a reversal of the roles A Skywalker will now mentor a young Kenobi.




Rey is following what Obi Wan did. She lives in solitary which is then broken by a droid needing help, the droid leads her to Luke Skywalker, she goes to a giant chest which contains Anakins saber and when she finally meets Luke she gives it to him to prompt him back to the quest.

Sound familiar? It is her destiny as a Kenobi to help save the skywlker family, the LAST SKYWALKER DESCENDENT Ben Solo is in trouble, the family is torn apart and a KENOBI will heal them all

HELP ME OBI WAN KENOBI you are my only HOPE!

It really shouldn't be a surprise. This reveal has been a long time coming if you ask me. I'm with AnneNeville, it was doing them more harm than good at this point. I actually think Rey Skywalker fans should be happy because at least this proves JJ was more interested in avoiding leading people on further than continuing to do so for the sake of an obvious red-herring. This will at least give those who were invested in the theory some closure. Better now than in Episode VIII, where the conversation realistically wouldn't even have come up.

 

Oh I wasn't singling you out haha. I just meant that a lot of people on here were adamant that it had to be Random and it was time to move on from the Skywalker family. I respect their desire for that to be the case, but I couldn't disagree more. Star Wars to me is the Skywalker family and the drama surrounding it. Without the main character being a member of that family, I just have no interest in the Saga anymore. I'll just treat this like other treat the old EU, as its own canon pathway and equally valid. Just not one I'll support with any kind of financial backing.
