    Oh, I kid, I kid, I promise. ;)
It would be hard for me to not be like, "...but what do you think is gonna happen to LUKE?!" randomly at dinner sometimes, though. LOL My husband and I are kind of weird (for many reasons, hahaha,) and we share a lot of overlapping hobbies/interests. From what I've read here and elsewhere many Star Wars nerds have spouses or significant others who could not care less about it.

Uh, you can have a spouse who loves Star Wars who might still tell you that, Seps. Not that I would know.

I don't really talk much about SW in my day to day life. Hence me being here.
The boyfriend and I have quite a lot in common (which I think is necessary for a good longterm relationship), SW just isn't one of them.
He secretly listens, dances and sings along to Aventura. Whom I think to be super sappy and corny. So we are even[face_devil]

    :)

Honestly, until our kids started getting old enough for Star Wars, it was really just something we both liked quite a lot, but didn't really discuss that much in the years since the last film came out (we both got pretty into it for a while in college, but then it sorta died down as we got busy with starting careers and finishing school and so on). I certainly wouldn't have literally considered it a dealbreaker when my husband and I were dating, just to be clear (I have a thing for hyperbole in service of humor; I know none of you have noticed.) ;)

Star Wars has become a thing that comes up a lot in our household lately in part because my son wants to talk about it so much, which has made for kind of a fun family bonding thing. I'd guess that if my kids and my husband weren't into it, I probably wouldn't be bringing it up to them very often.

Agreed. I'm considering recruiting her like how I made Sepra stay here when I realized she was funny. ;)

Haha, when I was at the JC Forums more than 13 years ago I gradually drifted from the film discussion forums to the JC Community forum until I was almost exclusively posting there (it's where my enormous post count came from). I'm actually making a conscientious effort to prevent the same thing from happening this time. ;)

13 actually. [face_blush] I quit the forums in 2003 to concentrate on maths olympiad for a few years at that time. This is the message board I was on earliest, which is part of the reason why it's so dear to me.

I am having too much fun here. So two ladies have been told by their significant others that they need an intervention for their Star Wars fangirling.

    THIS IS GOLD BABY, GOLD!!!

I'm glad you guys find my mental deterioration so entertaining. ;)

My fangirling would have been held in check if I hadn't had accomplices to egg me on here. This is why the internet is the worst.

I agree that if your significant other isn't a Star Wars fan it shouldn't be a deal breaker, as long as she/he respects your passion.

If she/he where to hate the prequels, on the other hand...

    That's a different story :D

Well yeah. Some things are nonnegotiable. Sometimes we just need to know our loved ones are on the same page as us. ;)

    Prequel hating?

My bf sometimes even watches SW with me. While doing a gazillion other things, so it's only sitting on the couch next to me and surfing the web;) For what it's worth, he thinks the Prequels are more interesting thematically as well as from both, a storytelling and filmmaking perspective. The CT is more charming and easier to follow for him though. Still, at the end space wizards, space frogs, and dog like co-pilots are dumb.

I'm thinking of persuading my boyfriend (who doesn't follow Star Wars) to watch Episodes I through VI with me this summer (I'd be taking mental notes regarding what would be needed to fill in the details of the admittedly convoluted plots of Palpatine or what he decided to change on the spot) to get the opinion of someone not in the fandom who would be willing to let me quiz them on their opinion of the films. Though I have a feeling he would end up saying "at the end space wizards, space frogs, and dog like co-pilots are dumb", even if he is willing to give me a considered opinion of what was more interesting or less interesting and what worked well or not so well. ;)

Prequel bashing. Pfft. I'm so bored with that soapbox, Weird Fanboys. Seriously. Every once in a while I'll run across a Wall O' Text Diatribe here or elsewhere about it, and I'm basically just like this now:

Most of my friends are not into SW at all, though a good number ended up liking the Lucas films more than they thought they would after I forced gently persuaded them to watch the films with me.
I never gave any additional information as I am of the opinion that this often does more harm than good. Even for us as fans. When you discard all the things GL and various others said over the years and just focus on what actually is in the films, you'll find that almost everything is still there; and it sometimes makes more sense without seeking an explanation for everything. Films should be able to stand on their own and these do this well without all the additional stuff.
My boyfriend had no problem putting the pieces of the puzzle that is Palpatine together. He pointed out that SW is full of plot holes, like most franchises are, but that they have space magic so that still leads to a satisfying conclusion for most things.
