    When is the book released?

Mungo Baobab. Out of curiousty I wonder, if it came on sale, how much that book of notes would sell for?

Me too. They have been so secretive so far you wonder if they would let much out in Bloodline. It does appear it's changing timelines on what people thought before. I admit it will drive me nuts if the Sith item collector is mentioned but not described at all physically. I don't think he has been already but I don't have the material myself.

I've actually come to like the holocron idea quite a bit. It works best if you assume that no one in the First Order knows about this, but Hux and Kylo will soon be finding out. Of course this means that they have never met him "in person" before, and there's no way of telling that from the film. But the idea of this ancient dark being projecting his influence and corrupting young minds from a miniature cube or pyramid shaped box is kind of creepy. Vanquishing him I think would definitely be a more spiritual undertaking, which is the direction I think this trilogy is going in, rather than simply a physical one such as cutting him down with a lightsaber.

Good point. Luke went to the first Jedi temple likely to tap into the force. His role in battling the First Order may not be physical, but mental.

Bloodlines comes out next Tuesday. It amazes me, with the subject matter that it supposedly covers, how they could avoid touching on a lot of the major questions we have from TFA about Ben and Snoke. It focuses entirely on Leia, so either Leia was completely detached from everything (very possible) or we learn some major things that I was hoping the movie would address.

Obviously, Ben was with Luke and Leia was doing political stuff, so she didn't see everything, but there can't be much she isn't at least aware of. It would be a terrible novel if none of the plot points of Ben's fall were addressed and he just went bad without Leia knowing any details. Not that it wouldn't surprise me with the way the New EU is shaping up.

Wookiepedia has updated info on Snoke, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Snoke

It states that he has had several apprentices. It also makes clear that Leia and Han know him well.

I like the idea but with Snoke being that messed up physically you would think its his true appearance.

Doug Chiang on the inspiration for the Snoke design:

Was the aura of mystery that surrounds Supreme Leader Snoke intentional?

That was referenced off an early Ralph McQuarrie concept piece where in The Empire Strikes Back, there was a sketch Ralph did of Vader talking to a hologram of the Emperor, who was a gigantic hologram, and the imagery was just a giant pair of lips, so we were just going for what Ralph had captured in these rough sketches, so we thought, that imagery was never used, but it was still very powerful, and we wanted to update it for ours.

The sketches he's referring to are these:

I'm curious if Snoke has his own personal guards like Sheev. If he does, I'm curious what they're going to look like. Hopefully it'll be a cool design. I'm imagining something more medieval and fantasy inspired. Perhaps something like this:

Throwing this out there as a possibility and it's a long shot given where it comes from but what if he's like Vitiate from the OR game. The Eternal Emperor basically is a body jumper, he's the one that came up with the way to escape death, the thing that Plaguius was looking for. Given that Disney actually had a patch made for the KOR and KOR II and the game is still going, would it be that hard to assume that Snoke is a Vitiate like being that jumps from body to body?

It would be interesting to see Battle meditation going on. That would be pretty cool.

How would these Vitiate jump from body to body in the OR? some kind of ritual or does he just do it? Why i ask is because why wouldn't have Snoke jumped bodies right off the bat? Snoke needs Kylo for his attunement to the light AND dark sides of the force. Maybe for a ritual that allows him to "body jump."

In game he seems to do it by having done a ritual where he uses a lot of force energy and then managed to basically become a living force being. He would probably need to do another ritual and then place himself in another body. I'm thinking the same sort of thing, that body of his looks damn messed up, so he might be looking for a new one.

Hmm could be Snoke is based off this being. I don't think they'd pull the idea directly from a game to a movie but they can find a hell of a lot of inspiration off this concept.

So if Snoke wanted to transfer his essence into Kylo, what's he waiting for?

I don't think this idea works very well with the notion that darksiders tend to believe only in a physical self. This idea of essence transfer was an old EU idea.

Now perhaps Snoke is slightly different in his thinking since he's not a Sith, but it doesn't explain what he's waiting for.

I like the idea that Snoke is unnaturally old. He certainly appears that way. At best, I could go along with sort of a Force-vampire thing where he needs Kylo to prolong his life (Han kind of hinted at it in TFA, about Snoke using him up).

Kylo's powers sort of hint at a difference between Snoke and the Sith. The ability to physically destabilize an opponent, for instance. Also, afflicting the mind for the purposes of information, torture and interrogation. Vader just hooked Han up to a shock machine. Kylo damages the brain. It seems to be centered on the control of the body and mind as opposed to directing inanimate objects. Although Vader liked choking people physically and through the Force. Vader was best when he got his hands on people. Kylo, too.

They do seem to be making a distinction between the mind probe ability that Kylo has, and what Vader could do.

@pablohidalgo RE: Mind Probe. Should we think of it like how Vader could tell what Luke was thinking of (Leia) in ROTJ vs Prof X telepathy?

@DavidakaCyborg Kylo has a far more invasive talent for it, though. Might be a related ability, but it reads as far more aggressive.

Well TFA pushed the mind probling stuff more and showed it to be more menacing than the original films but I remember the books on the original trilogy went into it a little more. I remember Sidious was really taunting Luke about being able to read his thoughts and I think Vader asked Luke if Yoda was still alive and Sidious was telling Luke that he was all alone now without Yoda or words to that effect.
