very true and I don't want to read only stories of Luke from this 30 years time period in which he searches Jedi artefacts all the time. That would be the most boring approach to take on Luke. [face_worried]

Absolutely, and you know what, this was George Lucas's initial idea for the sequels.
    A. a female who find her place within the force
    B. Luke as a father (to complete the circle for Luke)

If we must believe the non-Reysywalkers then JJ&Co went with A and dropped B....what a missed opportunity, they broke that circle!:mad::mad: I want to see Luke through the eyes of George Lucas, he knows the character and that's also how we see Luke.......

To take this a step further, we had a Luke searching for Jedi temples/artefacts in the new comics and it already became boring after the 2nd or 3rd arc. It was only really interesting in the first arc which ended with the Boba Fett confrontation. If this is what we get between ROTJ and TFA regarding Luke........[face_tired][face_worried]

just imagine a timeline of 30 years in which we have maybe 10 years of Luke searching temples/artefacts, 10 years traning of emo/psycho Ben and 6 years of Luke again searching a temple and being a hermit. [face_plain]

How can you interrupt the depressing naysayers with an interesting question like this? But since you did...

I am torn. I can't imagine anyone else playing Luke, yet the idea of more Luke stories is so intriguing. I think it could work but I can't imagine anyone that could play him. Mark Hamill has such unique qualities, he is handsome without being Brad Pitt-handsome, he has movie star charisma but not fakey Tom Cruise charisma. He comes off as so genuinely nice and sincere and that comes through in the character. Many could "play" Luke Skywalker, but I don't think anyone else could really "be" Luke Skywalker. I don't think they them like Mark Hamill anymore. :(

I also don't think anyone else really can play Luke Skywalker than Mark Hamill. So if there are more and hopefully more compelling stories 'except space monk stories', I hope they go the animation route. :)

Yep, Luke = Mark and Mark = Luke
See, if some one else has to play a really young Luke (10 -14 years) then it's not much of a problem. But to bring stories to life just after ROTJ then the actor needs to implement all these tiny little facial expressions that made Luke Skywalker. Mark really brought Luke to life so any deviation from that will end in disappointing results....

Slight change of topic - elbertino was asking the following in another thread:

I guess we know that there was at least one big-ass tree there and I assume that he had to eat something as well to survive BUt ... since the island is presented as the place where the Jedi began, I assume that the place has to be particularly special to the Force. Since the Force is an "energy sheld created by all living things" .. I assume that there has to be much life out there.

From the PT perspective - many midichlorians - sooo ... still there or manifested as Force ghosts or .. what?

That is probably one of the worst photoshopped fake fakes ever. Full face replication ... zero imagination or effort to make a plausible fake.

Well, the fact is that an official TFA merchandise magazine/book called Luke and his new order a failure. That is their official stance and not just the Luke fans complaining.

I value your opinion, but your opinion is simply wrong. Feel free to have it, but don't try and spin mine into something it isn't. One, you don't know my head canon. Two, you try and support your love of all things TFA by trying to imply that my dislike of the Solo character in TFA is because it doesn't follow with my head canon. Not true at all. My dislike isn't because Solo wasn't the character I wanted, it is because JJ and LK thought the only interesting Solo is one that fell off the wagon and became an incompetent smuggler again. They didn't want him being a general or political figure? Fine. How about a legit businessman running a shipping company? How about running a pilot academy? How about running a casino? How about just being successful?

    Nope.

He had to become a smuggler. And he couldn't even be a successful smuggler. He had to suck at it just like he did in ANH.

Given what we saw in TFA and his reluctance to help and how horrible he is at smuggling, he is basically the same character we saw in ANH.

Exactly the problem a lot of us have with the movie in general. A lot of the characters and issues and situations are a reset to ANH, not building on RotJ.

    EDIT:

I know that this is from BTS of the R2 scene, but has anyone seen this, know where it is from, or have any other pics of it?

This is how I want Luke to be in VIII, TFA color scheme with RotJ style for combat ability. The only thing that could make this better IMHO is for the cloak to be the lighter TFA color as well.

That is a very good question actually. Normally, I wouldn't have a hard time with such a question, as I'm usually in the "sure, why not?" camp. I usually don't care one bit, as I simply avoid the movie in question if it doesn't suit me.

However, Luke is a special case. A very special case! Mark Hamill more or less is Luke Skywalker to me, and I would have a very hard time getting used to that not being the case. I even have a hard time seeing Luke in video games, which just makes me seem a little eccentric, I know.

So with all that in mind, I suppose I am in the "no" camp. It just wouldn't feel right.

To be fair ... when I first briefly and very tragically (my family were on holiday and oddly enough wouldn't let me sit in the hotel room to watch television) glimpsed the "Star Wars Holiday Special" as a kid .. kid me was 100% CONVINCED that this person could not possibly be Mark Hamill .

12 year old me, showing preternaturally good taste (of sorts), decided then and there that the SWHS was therefore, crap.

Somewhat older me would find it hard to palate a neo-Luke .. though hypocritically enough and with a large amount of caution and goodwill, I am willing to see how the new Han Solo film will turn out.

Based on what I have read, GL most assuredly planned the third trilogy to revolve around a female (Luke's sister who was not Leia) but I always got the impression he saw Luke more in the monastic Obi-Wan role, not as a family man.
