This is the first part of a 3 part series. It is a continuation of the Lost Stars book by Claudia Gray.

This is what I think and hope happened after the events depicted in the book.

    Lost Stars: Ciena’s Redemption

    Chapter 1

4 Months After the Battle of Jakku.

“Ciena,” Thane said as he put his hands against the force field keeping her locked in her cell, “They are ready to talk to you. Remember what I said.”

“I will not turn traitor Thane. I already told you that.”

“Ciena I will be there at this hearing. Please don’t do anything stupid.”

The guard then enters the room and deactivates the force field placing Ciena in restraints and taking her into the nearby room.

Seated at the table are top New Republic Officials. Grand Admiral Gial Ackbar, Supreme Chancellor Mon Mothma, General Carlist Rieekan, and General Crix Madine. Ciena stands before them, in her brown dress with her brown curls over the side of her face. As she stood Mon Mothma began to speak, “Guard, please remove her restraints.”

The guard goes and removes the binders holding Ciena’s hands together but he stays close to prevent escape. Mon Mothma again speaks, “Captain Ciena Ree of the Star Destroyer Inflictor, Imperial Navy, do you have anything to say before this hearing commences?”

Ciena just stood and silently shook her head. “Very well, we shall begin. We call Lieutenant Thane Kyrell to the stand.”

Thane rises and proceeds to the stand next to the tribunal panel.

“Lieutenant, do you promise and thus swear under punishment of this tribunal and military and Republic law, to tell the truth in your testimony today?”

    “I do.”

    “You may be seated Lieutenant.”

The first to ask a question is Grand Admiral Ackbar.

“Lieutenant Kyrell, how long have you known the defendant today standing before us?”

“Since we were both 8 years old, sir.”

“Is there anything you want to tell us about the Captain what would help us in making a decision in this hearing?”

“Yes sir, Ciena is a very honorable woman. Her honor is what kept her bound to the Empire. On our planet Jelucan honor is a big thing. Especially for her family and the kindred. She is part of the original settlers of the planet known as the Kindred who live in the Valleys. My family were part of the wealthier and aristocratic ‘Second Wavers’ who settled rather recently in the planet’s history. In the traditions of the kindred if the honor of a family was challenged the kindred were required to support that family if they believed the charges were false. It is an honor bound tradition and one that has been ingrained into Ciena her whole life. She told me repeatedly she hated the Empire but her honor kept her from leaving.”

Mon Mothma asked the next question, “Lieutenant, do you remember that one night back on the Liberty when you had too much to drink?”

    “Yes Ma’am I do.”

“Do you remember what you told me about Ciena that night?”

“No Ma’am, I am sorry I was too intoxicated.”

“You told me that a woman you love more than yourself was an officer in the Imperial Navy, that you would give your life for her and would give your life to save her. You also stated how her honor bounded her to the Empire. Does this sound familiar?”

    “Yes Ma’am.”

The questioning then took a turn Thane was not expecting.

General Rieekan asked, “Did you ever meet with the defendant while you were in a member of the Alliance?”

Thane sat stunned, since when is this about me?

    “Yes sir.”

“I remember you telling me that. And I also told you that you and your vessel needed to be checked for tracking devices. None were found correct?”

    “That is correct sir.”

“Did the defendant have the opportunity to plant a tracking device on your person, clothing, or ship?”

    “Yes sir.”

“Ok thank you. That is all the questions I have for you.”

Next to speak was General Madine.

“Captain Ree, do you know what you have been charged with?”

    Ciena nodded but never spoke.

“Very well. Do you know that since the signing of the Galactic Concordance that the Empire no longer has any governing authority in the Galaxy?”

    Ciena nods.

“Ok thank you Captain. Lieutenant no further questions. You may be seated.”

Thane rose from the box and returned to his seat in the tribunal chamber.

“This tribunal will now confer in private,” said Mon Mothma as they rise and head back to their private discussion chambers.

Thane looks over at Ciena, tears streaming down her face. All he wanted to do was to go hold her but instead he stood up.

“Wait,” Thane yelled. The members of the panel stopped and looked at him.

“I want to make it clear that this is one of the most caring and honest women I have ever known. She thought she could make a difference within the Empire and when showed many acts of defiance by not turning me into Imperial Authorities after my desertion nor tracking me back to the fleet when I she had the chance to. I also didn’t betray her when I had the chance. I could have brought her back with me to the Liberty as a prisoner but I didn’t. Whatever happens to her happens to me as I am just as guilty!”

Mon Mothma then said, “We will disregard that outburst Lieutenant Kyrell. We will render our verdict after our deliberations.”

Ciena then looked at Thane and trifled a small smile. He ran over to her and embraced her. Kissing her gently before whispering in her ear, “It will be alright. I’m here for you.”

While they waited for the verdict Ciena told him of how when she awoke from surgery after the Battle of Endor that her bracelet was gone and was told it was destroyed.

She burst into tears, “I don’t have anything bonding me to Wynnet anymore Thane, she’s gone forever.”

Thane held her close, “You always will have Wynnet, just as you will always have me. I love you and so does she. Just remember that.”

Ciena sniffed after calming down slightly, “Have you heard anything about mumma or papa?”

“Jelucan only recently was re-taken by the Republic forces. There hasn’t been time for proper news to come out from there but I assure you I will find out.”

At this time the door opened and the tribunal members walked in and quietly took their seats. Thane and Ciena stood next to each other facing the tribunal board.

“Lieutenant Kryell, you can be seated,” Mon Mothma stated.

“I am sorry ma’am but I stand with Ciena on everything. What happens to her happens to me.”

“Very well then. We will present our verdict.”

Admiral Ackbar hands her a small envelope which she opens and reads aloud.

“Captain Ciena Ree. It is the decision of this tribunal that you are found not guilty for war crimes related to the Galactic Civil War. This was based in no small part on Lieutenant Kryell’s testimony, as well as a review of other testimonies and Imperial Service Records. It is the decision of this tribunal that you are to be released immediately and also offered a Command within the Republic Fleet.”

Ciena’s jaw dropped as did Thane’s. Neither of them believed Ciena would be cleared of all charges, maybe a few but not all. They were absolutely stunned.

“So, what is your decision Captain,” said Ackbar, “Do you accept our offer?”

Ciena didn’t know what to say, she looked at Thane. She could tell from his eyes that he would support her no matter what she decided.

She said, “Yes sir. I do.”

“Very Well. Welcome to the Republic Fleet Captain Ree. You are dismissed to go and sign your paperwork for your release and get packed up to head out to your new ship. Lieutenant Kyrell please wait behind a moment.”

Thane and Ciena looked at each other wondering what would happen now. But she could tell he wasn’t worried as long as they could now be together.

“Lieutenant Kyrell. We would like to now discuss your future with you.”

Ciena returned to her cell, only this time the force field did not activate. She began to pack up what few belongings she had. Most were items brought to her by Thane. She finished packing then walked back out to the main waiting area to wait for Thane.

Wondering what they had to say to him got her tensed up. Would they arrest him for not turning her in? Would they kick him out of the military?

No she couldn’t think of that right now. As she did she had to hold her side as the pain from her flying injuries returned.

Then a sudden look of shock on her face. What if Thane and I cannot have children because of these injuries? She didn’t want to think about it right now. Instead she only thought of how much she loved Thane and how he had stood up to the entire New Republic High Command to defend her.

Just when she thought this would go on forever another guard poked his head out of the door.

“Captain Ree. They are requesting your presence inside.”

She arose and strode into the room to see Thane still standing in front of the Tribunal at full attention.

“Captain Ree,” Ackbar stated, “Thank you for joining us.”

“Why is he still in here? Is he in trouble? Is there anything I can do?”

“No Captain. He is not in trouble but we wanted to make sure you heard it at the same time he did. Chancellor if you may.”

“Thank you Admiral. Captain Ree, we would like to offer you a command within the Navy but you would be paired with a trusted Officer as your Executive Officer.”

Mon Mothma then looked at Thane the back at Ciena. “That is why we are promoting Lieutenant Kyrell to Commander and making him your Executive Officer. Commander, Captain please don’t let us down.”

Thane and Ciena looked at each other. Then they smiled and responded almost in unison, “Yes ma’am.”

    They saluted.

    “You are dismissed.”

As Thane was leaving he turned back to the Chancellor.

“Chancellor, I apologize. I would like to know if you have any information about the planet Jelucan or its citizens?”

“I take it you are referring to the Captain’s father and mother, Commander?”

    “That is correct ma’am.”

“Paron Ree is still alive and doing well. He was present when the Administration building fell to Republic Forces.”

She saw the look on Ciena’s face and said, “Don’t worry Captain. Civillians who had been working at the Administration buildings were given automatic pardons due to the fact that most of them were forced into the jobs anyway.”

She saw the look of relief on Ciena’s face, “You mother on the other hand is a different story. We do not know which mine the Empire sent her to. We are still sorting those mines out and freeing the enslaved workers. Unfortunately, most records of prisoners and slaves at the mines were destroyed upon the Imperial defeat. We will do what we can but we make no promises.”

“Thank you Chancellor,” Thane said as he turned back around and left the room. He knew then what he had to do. He had to take Ciena back to Jelucan.

    Chapter 2

Ciena arrived at her new starship. It was even more bittersweet than when she first stepped foot on the bride of the Inflictor.
This was a previously Imperial ship the Subjugator but now renamed to the Liberator.
She remembered back to the Battle of Endor more than a year prior where she had told her fighter crews to cover the engines when one was destroyed. Well at least the Republic fixed it up. But her thoughts soon turned as Thane approached her on the bridge.
He was grinning widely as he strode up to Ciena. He then took out of his pocket a small bag which looked like it was handmade, and handed it to her.
She opened it, only to find the bracelet she thought had been destroyed by the droid at the medical station.
“Thane! How did you find this?”
“It was misplaced. When the Republic took over Imperial stations and ships we came across the medical bay where you were being treated. The personal effects of many different persons were there. The droid had malfunctioned and erroneously stated it had been destroyed.”
“Thane, you have no idea how much this means to me. Thank you.”
With that she gave Thane a huge kiss. They then realized they needed to get back to business.
“Captain. May I ask where we set course to?”
“Jelucan of course Commander,” she said smiling at him as she took her seat in the Captain’s Chair.
Thane took his seat at the Commander’s station behind her.
“On my mark make the jump to Jelucan. 3,2,1 mark!”
The stars then elongated before becoming a blue tunnel.

The star destroyer emerged from hyperspace above the planet of Jelucan.
A small shuttle came out of the ship heading down to the surface to the Republic administration building below. As they wait for the shuttle to land Ciena notices Thane looks distant.
    “What is wrong Thane?”
Thane doesn’t want to tell her his true intentions for returning to Jelucan, to ask her father for her hand in marriage.
“Nothing Ciena. Just thinking about the past and how we used to fly through these skies in that old V-171 my family had.”
A smile came to Ciena’s face. “I remember too. I always felt like nothing could get me down when I was flying.”
The pilot then came over the intercom, “Two minutes to landing Captain. Prepare for landing.” The shuttle then touched down at the Administration building.

As the ramp descended the planetary administrator along with several Republic troopers met the shuttle at the landing pad.
“Welcome to Jelucan Captain Ree, Commander Kyrell. I am Planetary Administrator Lando Calrissian.”
Thane recognized him immediately. “General Calrissian?”
Lando laughed, “Not anymore son. I am out of military life. I am just here for the transition. Once we can establish planetary elections to elect governors a member of the local populace will be elected to administer the planet. Now what can I do to help you on the glorious day on Jelucan?”
“We are here on personal business Administrator. We have come to see my father.”
“Ah Parron, yes good man. I will take you to him.”
They began walking, “Paron was one of the few who decided to stay to help the transition. He wanted nothing more than to help. Poor man has nothing, from what I was able to learn his wife was imprisoned and his daughter had died in the Battle of Jakku. But obviously the latter is wrong.”
They arrived at a plain metal door in the building which was her father’s office.
Lando knocked then entered. When they entered the look on Parron’s face nearly made Ciena cry.

Paron Ree was working on the plans for making planet wide elections possible at the local municipal and planetary level when there was a knock on his door.
When the Planetary Administrator came in followed by two Republic Naval Officers Paron thought he was seeing a ghost.
    It couldn’t be his daughter.
She was killed during the Battle of Jakku. Yet here she was, standing in front of him with the mane she had always loved Thane Kyrell.
As soon as he gained his composure he managed to say, “Ciena?”
Tears welling up in his eyes, “Is that really you?”
    “Yes Pappa. It’s me.”
They both began to cry as they hugged each other.
As they hugged Ciena, again having the bond to her sister restored said “Look through my eyes.” Paron, upon hearing that smiled as he hugged his daughter tight.
After their embrace he looked over at Thane, who was standing next to and behind Ciena. Paron offered his hand to Thane and Thane shook it.
“It is an honor to see you again sir.”
“The honor is all mine sir. You are always welcome in our home. You stood with me, and my family in our time of need when no one else would.”
Thane then looked at Ciena and said, “Ciena, can you talk to Administrator Calrissian to see if there are any details on your mother? I need to talk to your father for a few minutes.”
Ciena looked puzzled but she wasn’t about to question Thane’s motives and actions so she went with Lando to check on her mother.
“Mr. Ree, I have something I need to ask you sir.”
“Please Thane, call me Paron. As I said you are always welcome here. I just want to say my boy; you have developed into a fine young man. I am sorry I never took the time to get to know you when you and Ciena were younger. So what was it you wanted to talk to me about?”
“Paron, I would like to ask you for Ciena’s hand in marriage.” Paron’s eyes widened.
He smiled and said to Thane, “What took you so long?”
Thane smiled and simply said “The War.”
“My boy, after everything you did for my family I cannot say no. I would be honored if you would marry my daughter. I would also like you to stop by the house later. I have a family heirloom I would like to give to you to give to her. It is my mother’s ring.”
“We will be there sir. I have the perfect place to propose to Ciena then we will be by the house.”
“I am looking for to it, Thane.”
With that Thane and Paron hugged then went off to find Ciena.

“Well the mining here on Jelucan has been stopped. We are still sorting out the workers. Trying to find out who they are or where they came from. There are no indications that this was a prison mine for hard time. Maybe your mother ended up somewhere else?”
“Possibly but do you think I could take a trip out to see the workers. I know a lot of people from this world so I could help you in getting them home.”
“That is an excellent idea Captain. I will arrange transport immediately.”
Lando then left the office to head down the hall to the nearest hanger.
Thane then appeared in the doorway. “Any news?”
“Nothing yet. Lando is going to arrange a transport to the mines to see if I can help identify the workers there. Hopefully I will find out more information about my mother.”
Thane looked at her then said, “why don’t we head to the fortress first? I think it would be great to see the old place again.”
Just the thought of that made Ciena smile. The place they had built as children, the place where little more than a year before she spent the night with Thane. “We go to the Fortress first. Then to the mines.”
Thane looked at her and smiled as Lando returned saying their transport had been arranged.
They walked out to the ridgecrawler with knowing smiles as they got in.
When asked if they needed a driver they said no stating they knew the planet better than any outsider ever would. They pulled out of the hanger and started towards the fortress.
“Ciena, before we go to the Fortress your father said there was something he needed to give me. Can we stop by your house?”
“Ok Thane, what are you both up to? This isn’t normal behavior for you. I thought we agreed no more secrets between us.”
Thane kissed her forehead pushing her curls aside, “You will find out soon enough.” They pulled up at the family house and it still looked as Thane had remembered it. He jumped down off the ridgecrawler and went inside while Ciena waited inside. He returned a short time later and they continued their journey to the fortress.
“Do you want to see your family while we are here Thane?”
“I never want to see them again.”
Thane didn’t even look at his family’s house as they passed heading towards the hanger and then to the Fortress.
Ciena was in awe when she first set foot again inside the Fortress.
Remembering all the great memories she and Thane had in there made her break down in tears.
Thane then pulled her close and whispered in her ear, “I love you Ciena. There is something I have wanted to ask you for a while and I couldn’t think of a better place to do it.”
He then held her hands as he got down on his right knee.
Ciena began to cry again as she realized what was going on.
Thane pulled out the ring that Paron had given him. “Ciena Ree, will you – “
Even before he could finish Ciena cut him off “Yes! Oh Thane Yes. I have always wanted to. Yes Yes Yes!”
He placed the ring on her finger and pulled her in for a passionate kiss. “Don’t ever stop Thane.”
    “Look through my eyes.”
When Ciena awoke hours later it was already too late to head to the mines.
She watched Thane sleep and again began to cry.
    This time tears of joy.
She and Thane would finally be happy.
    “Look through my eyes.”
“Oh no not again. Why do you have to show your sister this?”
“What? I showed her my proposal I can’t show her us being happy? This is a happy and extraordinary moment Thane. She deserves to see it.”
Thane pushed her curls out of her face then kissed her again.
“I love you Ciena. I always will. I want to grow old with you and raise children with you.” At this she began to cry uncontrollably.
Thane held her close, “What’s wrong?”
Between sobs Ciena said, “Thane I don’t know if we can ever have children. With the injuries I sustained at Endor I don’t know if I can have a baby. I would love to have you baby but I don’t know if I can. It upsets me terribly.”
“Ciena, it’s ok. If we have to there are many children who were orphaned by the war. We can always go and adopt. Just as long as we are together. It doesn’t matter.”
She looked at him with tears in her eyes, “I love you Thane.”
    “I love you Ciena.”
Returning to Ciena’s house was something Thane had looked forward to.
As they entered they were met by Paron, arms outstretched to welcome them.
He immediately noticed the ring on Ciena’s finger.
“Congratulations to you both! Thane I hope that ring was enough as I do not have much money to offer.”
Thane was a little confused by this.
Was this some kind of valley custom? He had never heard of anything in his life, paying a man to marry his daughter.
Ciena must have seen the look on Thane’s face because she started in with, “What he means Thane is in the valley traditions the father of the bride usually pays a dowry to the groom to help pay for the wedding.”
“Sir, you don’t owe me anything. Ciena and I are quite capable of taking care of it ourselves.”
Ciena smiled, “Thane you remember people of the Valley have a great sense of honor.”
“I know Ciena but there is no need. I have told you before. I love you too much to burden you or your family with such unnecessary things.”
Paron looked at him and said, “Well son, you do have honor in you. You stood with us when no one else did. In my book that is all that is required.”
All of a sudden there was a knock on the door.
Paron, Ciena, and Thane looked at each other questioningly, “Paron are you expecting anyone?”
“No. I am not.” Ciena and Thane both drew their sidearms while Paron went to the door.
When the door opened Paron almost fell over.
There, standing in the doorway, was Verine Ree.

    Chapter 3
“Mumma!,” Ciena yealled as she put away her blaster.
She ran to her mother and hugged her.
Her mother looked old and tired.
All those years working in an Imperial Prison mine had taken their toll.
Ciena and Thane both helped her to the table where she sat down in the chair.
Ciena wanted to know everything about how she had gotten free and how she had gotten home but decided she would wait until her mother was feeling better.
She checked her Chrono and saw that it was late and figured her mother would be hungry.
She checked but Paron had no leftovers in the house as he had not been eating properly since his wife’s imprisonment.
Ciena took off her uniform tunic and set it aside while she got to work cooking.
Thane asked her, “Would you like some help Ciena?”
“No please take care of mumma and pappa while I make dinner.”
Thane, never wanting to disappoint CIena headed her words and went to sit with her parents.
Thane explained to Verine that when he heard about her arrest no one from the valley would stand with their family.
He went on to say how he risked his own life and freedom to come to stand with them in their time of need.
Paron and Verine just smiled as tears welled in their eyes.
This man truly loved their daughter.
Ciena finished cooking and served dinner. They sat and talked about many things including their engagement. When it came time for bed Thane wasn’t sure of the sleeping arrangements.
The last time he was there he had stayed up all night and walked the house keeping up with the tradition. What would happen this time?
When Ciena got up and went to her room for bed Thane was uneasy about whether or not he could join her.
Paron, seeing the look on his face, nodded his head and simply said, “Go to her Thane.”
Thane got up from the table and went into the room that Ciena entered.
He had never been inside her bedroom before.
    He knocked on the door.
He heard Ciena giggle from inside, “come in Thane.”
He pushed the door open and he was in awe. There was Ciena. Waiting for him. Inviting him into her bed.
This was not the first time he and Ciena had shared a bed but this was the first time they had shared her bed.
They held each other and drifted off to sleep only to be awoken hours later by a ringing comm unit.
Thane reached over to the bedside table and picked up the comm unit clicking the appropriate button which made a small figure appear before them in hologram from the unit. It was one of the friends and a crew member of their Ship Lieutenant Kendy Idele.
The expression on her face made Thane pay particular attention, “What is it Lieutenant?”
“Commander, we are receiving a priority signal from Republic Naval Command and the Captain’s and your presence is required on the bridge as soon as possible.”
“What does the message say Lieutenant?”
“It is a coded message sir. It can only be read by the Captain and the Executive Officer.”
Thane looked over at Ciena, still asleep beside him.
He wanted to let her sleep, “I am on my way Lieutenant. I should be there within an hour.”
    “Aye sir.”
The holocom unit then shut off.
    Ciena stirred in the bed.
The commotion had worken her up.
Noticing Thane was awake she asked, “Thane, what’s wrong?”
Looking at her he said, “I was going to let you sleep. Kendy contacted me. They are receiving a coded message from command and need us back on the ship ASAP.”
Ciena groaned, “Can’t we ever get a break?”
They both got dressed and headed quietly to their ridgecrawler, trying not to awaken Ciena’s parents. Ciena quickly penned a note explaining why they had left.
Upon landing on the Liberator, they were informed the message had arrived and went to the bridge.
Putting in their codes they received a priority message dispatching all ships to the Unknown Regions to keep an eye on the remnants of the Imperial Fleet.
Ciena immediately knew, this was a test.
A test to make sure she could stand up against the Imperial threat.
A Government she had sworn an oath to.
She glanced over at Thane and realized something might be going on with him since the High Command wanted to see him alone.
She immediately set the provided coordinates into the NAVCOMP and set course.
It looks like the wedding will have to wait.
Kendy, on the other hand, couldn’t.
She pulled Ciena aside, “Captain I couldn’t help but notice. I take it congratulations are in order?”
Ciena grinned at her and glanced at Thane, who was working in the Commander’s Station located behind the Captain’s Chair, “Yes. Thane just asked me yesterday. But now with this mission it looks like things will have to wait.”
Kendy then said, “Um Captain. If I might ask, what Exactly ar our orders?”
“Border patrol, Lieutenant. We are making sure the Empire stays within the bounds of the Galactic Concordance. Now set course to the Borders with the Unknown Regions.”

Alarms went off on all levels.
There was a ship exiting Hyperspace directly in their path.
They would have to maneuver to avoid it.
The light attack cruiser Commanded by Nash Windrider did just that.
Once around the Star Destroyer he brought his ship to full stop. “What was that Lieutenant?” He said to his assistant.
“Star Destroyer sir. However not part of our fleet. Ours would never come in on top of us. It’s like they didn’t know we were here. Our ships know exactly where we are.”
“Scan that ship. I want to know who it is. My guess is new Republic capture. They must be checking on the treaty boundaries.”
    “Aye sir, running scanners now.”
Right about this time the Liberator again jumped to hyperspace and disappeared.
Scans only halfway completed. Nash gazed forward blinking at the information on his screen.
The information said the ship was the former Imperial Star Destroyer Subjugator.
He wanted to get to the bottom of this.
    Who was flying that ship?
    Something about it seemed familiar.
    Ciena. She’s alive.

    2 Months Later
Thane gets out of bed, Ciena still sleeping next to him, and walks to the bridge for his shift. Upon arriving he relieves Kendy who tells him he needs to contact Navy Command.
Before saluting and turning over her watch to her Executive Officer she smiled and said, “I think they are going to transfer Ciena. You and her might be getting a new ship. But that is just the scuttlebutt going around.”
She then quickly left the bridge. He went to his station and brought up the secure communication to Naval Command.
The hologram of Admiral Ackbar appeared in front of him.
“Commander Kryell. Thank you for returning my call. I have some things I need to discuss with you…”
Thane put up the security screens blocking all other personnel out of the call. When the screens lower, Thane issues his orders.
“Set your course for Hosnian Prime.”

Ciena feels the ship emerging from hyperspace as she wakes up with Thane not next to her.
Being off duty she remains in their stateroom but connects her comm to the bridge and the officer in charge.
    “Bridge.”
She knows that voice, “Hey babe. Where did we just jump to? I felt us coming out of hyperspace.”
Thane grinned even though Ciena couldn’t see it, “We were ordered back to Hosnian Prime. Back to HQ. They want to talk to both of us. Hey while we are in the Capitol do you want to get married?”
“Thane I told you, I want to get married on Jelucan. With my family and yours there.”
“I told you they are not invited.”
Ciena frowns, “Ok well just my family and our friends then?”
    “Ok deal.”
“I guess we should get ready for the meeting then.”
“I’ll meet you on the bridge in ten?”
    “You bet.”
Ciena went and got a shower. Then changed into her best dress uniform before walking to the short walk down the hall to the bridge. Upon entering all personnel went to attention.
“Carry on,” she said as she walked to Thane. “Are you ready?”
    “Lead the way.”

    Hosnian Prime – Republic Command

Thane and Ciena emerged from their shuttle and upon arriving at Grand Admiral Ackbar’s Office they breathe hard and knock on the door.
“Come in,” came the voice from behind the door.
Thane opened the door and allowed Ciena to enter first.
He followed close behind, as was custom in the military but also his chivalry showing.
Thane and Ciena both stand before the Admiral at attention until he begins to speak, “At ease Captain, Commander. Please be seated.”
“Before I begin I would like to congratulate you both. I heard about your engagement. Generally, we do not allow that between commanders and subordinates, however in this case since Commander Kyrell was assigned to his position by this office and reports directly to this office he is technically not under your direct command. That being said we can move on to on to the reason I called you here.”
The admiral rose form his chair and walked over to a screen on the side wall of the room.
He pushed a button and a projection filled the screen.
Displayed was a current projection of the fleet strength and a copy of the newly passed legislation of the Military Disarmament Act.
“As you can see,” the admiral went on, we have been ordered by the Senate to disarm and reduce the size of the military.
Your mission was a success at showing that the Empire is staying within borders and keeping with the treaty. Because of this you both are being re-assigned.”
Ciena and Thane looked at each other wondering if this would be the end of their time together.
They remain quiet and allow their commanding officer to finish his statement.
The admiral continues, “I can tell by the looks on your faces you are concerned with your situation. Rest assured you will remain together. As we speak your crew is being moved to your new ship. Captain Ree you have proven yourself worthy and thus off of probationary status. You are no longer required to be under the supervision of this office as you have proven your loyalty to the Republic. As thus you have been promoted to the rank of Fleet Admiral and placed in Command of the Outer Rim Defense Fleet and of the system or planet of your choice for the headquarters.”
“You will be in command of the Outer Rim Defense Fleet. A few of the outer rim systems have local defense fleets who will report to you. But you must remember Admiral, the Navy is extremely low on soldiers. Local Defense Fleets make up most of our fighting forces now. Only a few select officers are chosen to command a joint task force of these independent fleets.”
Ciena was at a loss for words. She didn’t believe this was happening.
An admiral before the age of 30? And she thought being a Captain before the age of 25 was an amazing feat.
However, she had been aware of Admiral Rae Sloane who was an Admiral before 30.
But, she was Older than Ciena when she got the promotion. Ciena, being only 26 was, as of now, the youngest admiral in galactic history.
    She couldn’t stop smiling.

Thane just looked at Ciena and the admiral with a beaming smile on his face.
The admiral had filled him in on the details over the holo-comm before leaving Jelucan space.
He also knew what was coming next.
“Commander Kyrell, now for you. As you are no longer bound to serve this office you are now free to have your own command. As of this moment you are assigned, if you choose, to be the Captain of the Admiral’s Command Ship.”
Thane grinned as he knew the Admiral already knew the answer.
He continued, “Admiral Ree, where would you like to be stationed?”
Ciena couldn’t think of a more appropriate place.
    She said, “Jelucan sir.”
“Very well Admiral. You are now in charge of the Outer Rim Defense Force, stationed and Headquartered on Jelucan, and due to your expertise and knowledge of Star Destroyers I am assigning you to the newly repaired Command Ship Liberty. Named for the ship lost during the Battle of Endor. It is a captured Executor-Class Star Dreadnaught.”
Ciena was in awe. She knew all about those ships due to her service aboard Darth Vader’s flagship Executor during her time in the Imperial Navy. To think that she would be in command of one was more than Ciena could possibly take.
“Thank you so much Admiral. I am honored by this.”
“The honor is all mine Admiral. Now go return to your assignment. I believe you also have a wedding you need to deal with,” he smiled widely.
Handed them their new rank insignias, and dismissed them.
As they walked back to their shuttle, Ciena said to Thane, “I can’t believe this. Me, an Admiral. And being able to still be on Jelucan for our family and our headquarters. Thane, let’s go home.”
Thane smiles at her and they both head to the shuttle waiting to take them to their new ship.

As Thane and Ciena disembarked their shuttle they were greeted by their most trusted officer and friend Lt. Kendy Ibele along with several other pilots and officers who had been called upon to witness their arrival.
“Admiral, Captain,” Kendy said with enthusiasm when they hit the hanger deck, “Welcome aboard the Liberty. We are currently awaiting your orders.”
“Ciena looked over at Thane and he nodded.”
“Set course for Jelucan. That is our new command center. We will be in orbit above the planet and patrolling the system to make sure the area is free of pirates and other criminals.
    Kendy rolled her eyes.
She remembered back when she was in the Alliance Starfighter Corps, fighting against the Empire. Nothing gave her more satisfaction. She loved it.
“I guess the war truly is over. I will notify the bridge at once Captain.”
She turned and walked away dismissing the others as she made her way out of the hanger.
Ciena stopped walking and looked at Thane.
“Thane, I have something to ask you,” she said looking even more serious than she had previously. “Go ahead Ciena. You know you can ask me anything.”
“Thane, did you know about the test back on the Liberator? The test to make me prove my loyalty?” Thane looked into her brown eyes, being completely honest with her. No secrets would be had between them.
“Yes Ciena. I did. I was assigned to you by Republic Command. At first I declined but then I was told if I didn’t accept the assignment your offer would be retracted and you would go to jail. I would as well for being a sympathizer. They know we are in love and they used that against me. I would do anything for you Ciena.”
Ciena looked at him and could see the truth in his blue eyes.
She hugged him and gave him the most passionate kiss she could muster.
They walked together out of the hanger to the turbolift to take them to the bridge holding hands as they walked. Smiles on their faces.
Arriving on the Bridge, Ciena learned that the ship was fully stocked on ordinance and fighters but all they needed was a wing commander.
Ciena knew right away who she would pick for that.
    She summoned Kendy to them.
“Lieutenant Idele, you are a supurb pilot and I would be honored if you would bemy wing commander for this command ship.”
    Kendy blinked in disbelief.
She never thought in her wildest dreams she would ever be put in charge of a squadron, let alone an entire wing of craft.
    “Congratulations, Commander Idele!”
With that the entire bridge broke out into applause.
Just at that moment the alarm sounded signaling they were approaching their destination.
Emerging from Hyperspace they were back.
Back at their home, their base of operations, their future.

    Chapter 4

    Two Days Later

Ciena left her office in the Administration building to go find Thane.

She was giddy. Giddy because she would finally be married to the man she had loved her whole life.

The day was rapidly approaching and she had to make the final plans.

Going down the hall she ran into her wing commander and maid of honor Kendy, “Oh Admiral, just the person I was looking for!”

Ciena looked at her with a look of curiosity and shock on her face. Why was she looking for me? Is something wrong? Is it Thane? Is it Mumma or Pappa?

Kendy saw the look on her face and quickly spoke up, “Oh it’s nothing bad. The Captain just told me to get you and bring you out to the courtyard. He has a surprise for you.”

Ciena followed behind her anxiously. Thane had already given her more than he knew.

What does he have up his sleeve now.

As they turned the corner and walked out the door she stopped dead in her tracks.

A look of pure shock and joy came across her face.

    It was a Muunyak.

She hadn’t seen one since before she and Thane shipped out to the Royal Imperial Academy on Coruscant.

Thane stood next to the beast smiling and holding onto the fur of the beast.

Ciena ran to him, jumped into his arms and hugged him.

“Thane! Where did you ever find one? I didn’t think anyone still had any in captivity since the Empire came. How? Where di-?” He held his finger to her lips and kissed her softly.

Then he said, “Shh. Just go riding. I will tell you later. Ciena gave Thane another kiss then jumped on the Muunyak and took off, the wind blowing over her skin as she held firmly to the beasts fur. She rode for what seemed like hours before returning to the Administration building where Thane was waiting for her.

“Thane,” she said as she jumped down off the muunyak, “how did you find one of these?”

Thane smiled and said, “Your parents and I found a local family that had a whole herd. I knew how much it hurt you when yours died, so I decided right then and there I was going to buy one.”

“Oh Thane it must have cost a fortune.”

“Money is not an object for you Ciena. I would give away all my possessions and my credits for you.” As they kissed again she saw Kendy approaching again.

“Admiral, Captain, I just wanted to tell you that the church is all ready for the wedding and the minister is on his way. He will be here in two days. Once he passes customs.”

“Make sure he doesn’t get hassled Commander,” said Thane sternly. “We need him to be here promptly. Nothing is to go wrong. Not on Ciena’s day.”

Boy did she ever love him. He would do anything to make her happy.

“Aye, sir!” Kendy said as she saluted and walked away back to toward the building.

It was nearly dark and the work day had long ended.

Ciena took hold of Thane’s hand, jumped up on the Muunyak, and rode off towards her family’s home with Thane walking slowly next to her.

Having worked all day Paron Ree was feeling tired.

He was still getting over the fact that his wife, who had spent years in a hard labor prison, was finally back with him.

He watched as she worked in the kitchen cooking the dinner for them.

Then he looked and saw the two extra places at the table and smiled. Ciena and Thane had been staying with them for the past couple of days.

Paron had been working hard to help Thane find a house for him and Ciena with no results as of yet.

Then he heard a familiar sound.

    It was a muunyak.

    He knew Ciena was coming.

He got up from his chair and walked towards the door.

He barely had opened it when Ciena and Thane walked up.

Seeing the look of love and joy on his daughter’s face was all he needed.

As they embraced he couldn’t help but think in a couple of days his little girl would be a married woman.

He hugged them both and then went into the house.

Ciena wasted no time in going to the kitchen to help her mother fix the meal while the men retreated into the living room to have a few drinks and talk, as was customary on Jelucan for males of the family once they had reached a certain age.

Paron and Thane used the time to talk about finding a house for them.

Thane knew Ciena wouldn’t want to leave her family but finding a house close to her family wasn’t an easy task.

Ciena called from the kitchen that dinner was served.

The two of them got up and went to the dining room where they ate and drank in celebratory bliss.

While Thane slept, Ciena stayed awake.

She couldn’t stop thinking about what Thane had done for her. He was so good to her. She didn’t deserve him but she knew in her heart that she would never leave him and he would never leave her.

He had many many chances over the past few years after joining the Rebellion to be with someone else, but he hadn’t.

    Neither had she.

She remembered how Nash had asked her to go to bed with him that night after she returned from her mother’s trial.

Even though Thane had gone against everything they believed in, she knew he was right all along. And she knew she loved him.

And would do anything for him. Even if it meant giving up her career.

She drifted off to sleep and didn’t awaken until the next morning.

That day she went to see the doctor at the administrative building.

She wanted to know if with the injuries she had sustained him her TIE crash if she was still able to have children. “Doctor I just want to know if it is possible. The droids never told me about my condition other than my liver had to be regrown. I don’t know much else. Will I ever be able to have children?”

The doctor told her, “Let’s have a look. Lay down here please Admiral.”

Ciena lay still while the doctor performed multiple tests and scans on her body. Finally, after many hours the results finally came back into the room.

“Admiral, I have good news. You are in top notch shape and will be able to have children. As a matter of fact, if you want to have them you might want to start within the next couple days. Otherwise you will have to wait another month,” she grinned as she said it.

Ciena smiled broadly and thanked the doctor before heading back to her office. What would Thane want? Does he want children? What would he think if Ciena told him she did? Would he be mad?

Ciena was acting paranoid again. It must have been the stress from her wedding tomorrow.

All of a sudden there was a knock on the door.

“Admiral, the minister is here.” Ciena looked shocked.

“He’s early. Please send him in. I will talk to him.”

She pushed her comm button and connected her to Thane’s office.

“Thane, the minister is here. Come to my office so we can meet and discuss the events for tomorrow.”

She rose from her desk and opened the door. Standing in front of her was a man in his 40s with black hair, slightly turning grey, and a short, trimmed beard.

When he saw her he smiled and said, “Admiral Ree I presume?”

Ciena was about to respond when Thane came down the hall towards her door. “An you must be Captain Kyrell.”

He held out his hand and Thane shook it, “Pleased to meet you both. I am Lor San Tekka. I represent the Church of the Force and I am here to join you both in the bond of marriage.”

Thane heard him mention the Force and rolled his eyes until he saw Ciena looking at him. Well if she believes in it I will give it a try.

“Minister San Tekka, it is so nice to meet you. Please follow us we will show you around and you can see where the events will take place tomorrow.”

Sitting aboard his attack cruiser Commander Nash Windrider contemplated what had happened months before.

An old Imperial Star Destroyer had come out of nowhere. Right into the path of his cruiser.

He was within treaty boundaries and he knew that ship wasn’t part of their fleet.

He still couldn’t believe what he thought he saw. Ciena Ree was alive. And she was working for the New Republic. “It must have been a New Republic capture,” he said to his assistant Lt. Dalven Kyrell.

“The scans we managed to get off come up as the Subjugator, but the scanners are also showing New Republic codes. Analysis says the ship was the Liberator. New Republic capture from the Battle of Endor. Ship is under the command of Captain Ciena Ree.”

That was the news Nash had wanted to hear.

    Confirmation. He was right.

They must have something on her. She would never surrender to the Republic herself. Something is going on and I am going to find out what.

The Next Day – Planetary Administrative Building Chapel, Jelucan

Thane stood at the altar of the chapel.

He had asked his former squadron leader, Yendor, to be his best man but he was nowhere in sight.

Did he get my holo? Why is he not here?

The stress was enough to kill Thane. He didn’t have many friends but those that he did he had invited. They had arrived, but where was Yendor?

Thane was just about to leave to look for him when he strode into the Chapel. “I’m sorry I’m late Thane. I wouldn’t miss this for the world. I just had something come up at the last minute but I took care of it.”

Thane hugged him and said, “I’m glad you are here. This is a great day and am so happy to see everyone here. All my former squad mates, the former Alliance High Command, all my friends, and Ciena’s family.”

Just as he said that the music started playing and the parties walked up to stand with Thane and get ready for Ciena.

    Then she appeared.

    “Look through my eyes.”

Ciena wore a white dress that made Thane’s jaw drop. It was a white, off the shoulder dress that was in stark contrast to her light brown skin.

As he looked at her walking towards him his heart skipped a beat.

Before he knew it she was standing there beside him. She was going to marry him.

The minister began the ceremony and it proceeded in the normal fashion. “I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride. May the Force be with you.”

Thane leaned in and kissed Ciena passionately to the applause of everyone present.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I present Mr. and Mrs. Thane and Ciena Kyrell.” The crowd stood and kept the applause going as Ciena and Thane left the room.

As they were walking out Thane looked over and saw Paron and Verine.

He smiled at them and they smiled back. Then he stopped dead in his tracks and his expression suddenly turned angry.

As Ciena looked forward she saw them too and her expression changed as well.

There standing in front of them were Thane’s parents.

The expression on Thane and Ciena’s face said it all. He was utterly furious.

“What are you doing here?” he asked them trying to maintain his composure.

Even though he tried to hide his anger the guests were beginning to see something was wrong.

Yendor and Kendy immediately came to their aid, standing next to them while Thane confronted his family.

“Thane, we just wanted to see you. We thought you were dead. We got a message from the Empire years ago stating you had deserted then took your own life. It is so great to see you alive my son!” Oris Kyrell said with genuine love in his voice.

All Thane could think of was the way his father treated him when he was younger.

“If I wanted to contact you I would have. I do not want you here. I don’t want you in my or Ciena’s life. Please leave.”

By this time all the guests were on their feet, watching the situation play out.

Suddenly one of the guests spoke, “Call the guards!”

Thane held up his hand and gestured, “No. Let them leave on their own.”

He stared them down until his father and mother finally turned and walked away in shame.

Oris had long ago realized his mistakes he made with his children. When he thought Thane was dead he blamed himself.

He took that opportunity to change.

He wanted to tell Thane this, but Thane wanted nothing to do with them.

    He had destroyed his family.

“Goodbye my son. I am sorry. We love you,” he said as he walked away down the hallway with his wife, tears streaming down his face.

As they were walking away, one of the guests came up to Thane.

He was cloaked in a brown robes and a hood.

He said, “Listen to me Thane. You might not remember me. But Dak Raltar talked about you highly. He told me before we took off the day he died on Hoth that the only thing he regretted was not telling his parents he loved them. You should always do that Thane. Because you never know what can happen.”

Thane looked at him and he pulled his hood off.

Standing before him was Luke Skywalker.

He had seen Luke in passing when he was in the Alliance but never had spoken to him.

How with the new government in place Luke was now head of the fledgling New Jedi Order.

Thane thought for a few moments and looked at Ciena who nodded in agreement.

Then then took off down the hall after his parents.

Ciena was astounded by the amount of people who had come to their wedding.

She hadn’t expected this many people.

It was all their friends, family (mainly hers), and other members of the New Republic government including her crew.

She thanked everyone as they filed past her to the reception room down the hall. As she was thanking the guests she notices her boss, Grand Admiral Gial Ackbar approaching.

Instinctively she goes to stand at attention until she realizes that she isn’t in uniform nor is she on duty. The Admiral smiles at her and she says, “Admirals Ackbar. Thank you so much for coming!”

“Admiral. This was a truly glorious day. You are a very beautiful bride. I hope you and the Captain have a great life together.”

“Admiral, I have been doing some thinking lately and I would like to talk to you if it is ok?”

“Anytime Admiral Ree, excuse me I mean Kyrell.” He grinned. “Well I would like to discuss something with you. My office is right down the hall would you mind?”

“Not at all. Lead the way Admiral.”

Thane approached his parents before they reached the front door of the facility.

“Father, Mother, wait please.” Oris and Ganaire turned around to see Thane running up to them.

Oris looked at Thane, tears still in his eyes.

“Please wait. I am sorry.” They stopped and turned to face him.

“Thane, I know how I was back when you were growing up. I treated both you and your brother badly. However, when I got that message from the Empire that you had died, a bit of me died as well. I knew I had to change my life. To attone for who I was. That really helped me Thane. I just wanted to see you once more.”

Thane took a deep breath and began to talk, “Yes father. You were a rotten parent. You never approved of my friendship with Ciena and you never gave me any positive encouragement. But I am willing to put it behind us. Ciena and I are married now. I don’t care if you don’t like her, but when you are around her you will treat her with respect or I will never talk to you again.”

“Thane, that was part of who I was before. I am so happy you and Ciena are together. I am sorry we never gave you any encouragement and I would love to welcome Ciena to our family. She seems great and we would like to get to know her better son. The differences that once existed here were wiped away after the Empire started mining the planet. The first wavers and second wavers became one culture. Times changed Thane. We changed with it.”

Thane looked at both of them.

He had become quite skilled in his time on the run from the Empire of being able to tell when someone was being genuine and when they were lying.

He could tell they were being genuine with him. “Please come back to the reception. I know Ciena would be happy to finally meet you. She wanted to invite you. But I told her no.”

    “We would love it.”

With that they all walked back down the hall to the reception room.

On the way they passed Ciena’s office and noticed her in a meeting with Grand Admiral Ackbar.

“Please go on ahead. I will be right there.”

He knocked on the door and heard Ciena’s voice from behind, “Come in Thane.”

    Chapter 5

Thane walked into the office. Ciena said to him, “Please sit Thane. This won’t take long.”

    “Ciena, what is going on?”

He looked at Admiral Ackbar and then back at Ciena.

“Thane, I was just talking to the Admiral. I think that now that we are married we should make it a rule to not play favorites when we are on duty. I am your boss and you are my subordinate. I do not want to make it seem like we are practicing nepotism or favoritism. As such I am requesting for you to be transferred.”

Thane looked at her with surprise.

“Ciena. What are you saying? Why would you do this to me?”

“Thane, relax for just a second and I will explain.” Thane sat back and looked at her.

    “Go on.”

“The Admiral and I have been talking. The Republic is re-opening the Academy on Coruscant. The one where we went. They are looking for great pilots to be staff members and someone to be the Commandant of the Academy. Admiral Ackbar wants you to be that person.”

Thane looked at Ciena, “You want me to leave you?”

“That’s not what I said Thane. I was going to look into getting a transfer. Unfortunately, there is nothing available now.”

    “Then I don’t want it.”

“Thane, think about this. This is the opportunity of a lifetime. A flag officer promotion and command of a training academy.”

“I know that Ciena, but we just got married. I don’t want to leave you.”

“Ciena, I love you with all my heart. I wouldn’t want to be far from you. If the posting could be somewhere in the system I could do it. Anything else I think I would resign first.”

“Thane I can’t let you do that. Admiral Ackbar, can there be an academy closer to Jelucan?”

“Actually Admiral, we will be opening a local academy. It won’t be anything large, probably only a few students but it would be local. Since it wouldn’t be a large academy I wouldn’t be able to receive the Rank of Admiral. I could swing Commodore though. You would still be the Commandant of that academy though. Just reporting to the Admiral of the Academy on Coruscant.”

“Admiral, as long as I get to stay near Ciena I don’t care.”

“It is settled then. You are hereby promoted to Commodore and given charge of the Flight Academy here on Jelucan which will be starting soon. Also as a Commodore you will also serve as the Executive Officer of the Defense Fleet under the Admiral’s command, should something ever happen. Which might be sooner rather than later. New intelligence says that some Imperial ships might be attempting to cross the boundary line to test our responses. We might need you to deploy soon to stop any incursion. I, along with Senator Organa-Solo, think that aggression by the Imperial Remnant is imminent. But we are still trying to rally the rest of the Republic to back us up.”

“Thank you Admiral, I am grateful. Ciena and I will make sure that the fleet stays on high alert.”

“Ok great now let’s all get back to celebrating. This is your day you two,” Ackbar said.

And with that they all went to the reception room.

“Lieutenant Kyrell. What is our location?” asked Commander Windrider.

“Approximately 3 clicks away from established New Republic boundary sir.”

“Fantastic. Contact Admiral Hux. Let him know everything is a go. No Republic ships are anywhere in the area.”

The lieutenant typed in some commands and he holo projector whirled to life. An image then appeard of a male officer looking back at the Commander.

    “Yes Commander?”

“Sir we are in position. Request permission to conduct incursion.”

    “Permission granted Commander. Proceed.”

Nash then said, “Full ahead! Cross the boundary line! Let’s test response to an invasion.”

“Aye sir!” the pilots said. As the ship lurched forward at full speed across the boundary line established by the Galactic Concordance Nash laughed manically.

“Incursion complete Commander. We are now inside New Republic territory.”

“Scan for any signs of Republic ships.”

There are several moments of silence.

“No ships around at all sir. Not even in hyperspace.”

    “Excellent lieutenant.”

The commander then turned back to the holo projector, “incursion complete Admiral. No signs of pursuit. Permission to conduct phase two of our plan?”

“Granted. Captain Windrider. Report to the Exterminator for your orders.”

    Nash grinned, “Yes sir.”

    Later that night – Jelucan

Ciena lay in bed next to Thane.

It was their first time together as man and wife.

She was in bliss. Nothing could be better than this.

As she lay there awake she contemplated the night’s events.

Thane would no longer be with her all the time on the Liberty. Granted he would be doing what he loved most, flying, but she would miss him not being with her.

I think I might have made a mistake. Why did I ask Ackbar to do this? She looked over at Thane again and smiled. He’ll be fine. He’ll be flying.

She thought for a while about possibly contacting Ackbar and asking for his transfer back to her command.

She decided that what happened was for the best.

She and Thane had been apart for years at a time and now here they were.

They could do it again. They had to.

Ciena thought back to the events of the night. She giggled to herself as she remembered the doctor’s advice.

She took it but she just hoped Thane would be as happy as she was.

She looked at Thane again the snuggled up next to him, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

    2 Weeks Later

    Ciena couldn’t believe her luck.

She looked at the test again.

    Positive.

She was worried but happy at the same time.

I need to tell Thane. What will he say? Will he be happy? Will he be mad?

No I have to tell him.

Ciena went to her desk in her private office onboard the Liberty.

She opened the comm channel that connected her directly to Thane.

It was his personal comm so he always had it on him.

She was going to leave him a message, but decided against it.

No I need to tell him this in person.

“Thane, when you get this message please return to the ship. There is something I need to tell you. It is urgent.”

She hit the button to send the message.

A single tear streaked down her face.

As she went to call her parents to tell them the news she thought again.

No, I should tell Thane first. He deserves it.

She gets up and leaves her office. It is her time on the bridge.

As she steps out of the turbolift which connects her private chambers to the bridge, Kendy sees her, salutes, and then calls the bridge to attention.

“I have told you all several times this is not necessary. Commander I need to see you in the briefing room.”

Ciena and Kendy walk to the open door of the briefing room, which is located directly off the bridge in the rear.

    “Please sit Commander.”

Kendy looks worried and Ciena saw it in her face.

“Commander this is just your bi-yearly review,” Ciena says as she sets the service record down in front of her at the table. And you have done very well. Working double shifts, keeping you flight skills up in the simulator. And actually going on X-wing patrols. Usually senior officers and wing commanders don’t do that. I am impressed.”

    Kendy smiled.

“You are on the fast track for promotion Commander. As I am desperately in need of a Captain for this ship. It looks like that person could be you.”

    Kendy couldn’t believe it.

She hadn’t even been a wing commander that long.

How could this even be happening?

“Do you have anyone in mind who could replace you as wing commander?”

“Admiral, I will have to think about it. My pilots are among the bes. I would recommend them all but if I only have to pick one I need some time to think.”

“Your promotion takes affect when you make the choice. So howlong it takes is up to you. You are dismissed Commander.”

When he flies he is at peace.

    He has no worries.

But now remembers he must focus on what he is doing.

He is giving a demonstration to the cadets.

The X-wing is highly maneuverable and he shows it off at every turn.

Barrel rolls, ninety degree turns, one hundred eighty degree turns, flying straight up.

He does it all and more.

“Watch the Commodore Cadets. We will expect nothing less. You will be of the elite pilots when you leave this academy,” says one of the instructors on the ground.

Thane again makes another approach coming in close to the deck.

The cadets drop to the ground.

Until they see that he has stopped cold.

Directly in front of them. Hovering.

    Than he lands.

Getting out of the cockpit in his orange jumpsuit and helmet he shakes the instructor’s hands and tells the students, “Ok go ahead, climb up and look inside. Remember this is a fighter. It is a weapon of war and must be treated as such.”

At that time his personal holo-comm starts ringing.

By the time he gets to a location to answer it the time has run out.

    The light is flashing.

    A message… from Ciena.

After he plays it he wonders what is going on.

He leaves the cadets to the instructors and heads to the shuttle docked in his private hanger and makes his way back to the Liberty.

Upon arriving in the hanger he rushes to the bridge where he knows Ciena is on duty.

Ciena, upon seeing him running to her laughs and says, “I told you to wait until you were off.”

“I am the Commandant of the Academy. What are they going to do fire me? What is it you need to tell me Ciena?”

“Not here. In the briefing room.”

They go into the briefing room and close the door behind them.

    “Thane I am pregnant.”

She scans Thane’s face trying to determine how he is feeling as she tells him those words she has been dreading all day.

Thane looks at her with a look of joy, “Ciena, that is wonderful! I’m going to be a father! And you are going to be a mother!”

    “Shh, not so loud Thane.”

“I don’t care if they hear us. I want the world to know.”

“No Thane. We cannot tell anyone. Well not yet anyway. Well except our families.”

    “Why not Ciena?”

“I am afraid what will happen. I want to remain in service as long as possible Thane. If Naval Command finds out I am pregnant they could force me out.”

“I doubt that. Ackbar loves you. You are one of the best pilots in the Navy and the best Fleet Commander. He couldn’t afford to lose someone of your caliber.”

“Either way Thane, it is going to happen sooner or later. I can’t run a fleet with a baby in toe.”

“We will cross that bridge when we get to it Ciena. Don’t worry. I love you.”

They embrace each other in a passionate kiss before leaving the briefing room.

“Ciena. I will pass that message on to our family on the ground.”

“Thank you Commodore. I appreciate you getting here so fast.”

Before Thane has a chance to leave the alarm sounds, signifying an incoming message from Navy Command.

An image of Admiral Ackbar appears at the holo-comm station.

He begins to speak, “Emergency Orders from myself and Senator Organa-Solo. An incursion has been detected in the Western Reaches. The Outer Rim Defense Fleet is to be mobilized immediately. To the coordinates being sent to enforce Galactic Concordance Boundary lines!”

“Set course immediately for coordinates provided! Patch me through to all fleet vessels.”

    “Online Admiral.”

“This is Admiral Kyrell. All ships are to proceed to the Western Reaches to enforce Galactic Concordance boundary lines!”

Hi - I see you're new here and this is only the second story ever based on Lost Stars that was posted to this board, which is a) a shame because Lost Stars is a great book; b) wonderful, because there's something great to read...but I thought I'd give you a couple of tips:

Chapter 1's formatting is messed up to the point of being barely readable. But the rest is somewhat messed up, too. Most of us, when writing for the web, prefer to put a line of dialogue together with dialogue tags and/or action tags in a single paragraph, because that's easier to follow.

    Example:

Similarly, once you've done that, it would make sense to give us some time to read and reply, give you some comments...it's not that fun when you post everything at once. When you post it bit by bit, there's suspense, eagerness to know what happens next. :)

Thanks so much. I appreciate your comments. I will wait to post the rest as I am still working on it. I was writing the story in novel format I guess I have some editing to do. LoL

I will fix the story already written here and apply those changes to the new chapters I will be writing.

I have some good ideas coming out and tie ins to Episode 7 as well so I hope you all like the rest of it once I get it finished.

    Chapter 6

Nash Windrider sits in his Captain’s Chair on the bridge of the Imperial-Class Star Destroyer Exterminator, one of only a few remaining in the hands of the Imperial Remnant.

“Lieutenant Kyrell. What is our location?”

“We have crossed the boundry line Captain. Scanners indicate a small defense fleet moving into the area in hyperspace.”

“Excellent. Everything is working as planned.”
Nash then brings up a private comm channel opened up to other Star Destroyers waiting to spring this trap for the Reoublic.

    “Standby to engage.”

    “Standing by sir.”

    Nash then sees it.

A large Executor-Class Super Star Destroyer emerges from hyperspace along with 4 other smaller Imperial-Class Star Destroyers.

Nash still has the codes for the Captain’s private Holo-comm onboard the ships.

He presses the button to connect him to the Liberty.

“Ciena Ree. I know it is you.”

“Nash Windrider? You are still alive?”

“I could say the same thing about you.”

    “It is Ciena Kyrell now.”

“No! You are NOT to say that name! You have betrayed your oath Ciena!”

“No Nash. The Empire betrayed it long before I did.”

“Don’t you EVER say that about my Empire.”

“Nash, I am giving you one chance. Go back to the pre-determined boundaries and your ship and yourself will be spared.”

    “No. Engage”

With those words six other Imperial Star Destroyers appeared from hyperspace behind the Exterminator.

“Do you really want to do this Ciena?”

“Nash, I am in a Command Ship. I can annihilate you with a few blasts. I might ask is it YOU who wants to do this?”

Thane, watching the scene unfolding before him jumps to the Captain’s station and opens up a channel to Naval Command.

“Admiral Ackbar. We have seven Imperial Star Destroyers crossing the line and lining up in attack formation. Request permission to engage.”

“The Chancellor doesn’t want engagement Commodore. We are to enforce the boundary line.”

“How will we do that if we cannot engage Admiral?”

“I am authorizing defensive measures only. Do not fire unless fired upon.”

    “Aye sir.”

“Ciena, we are cleared to engage in defense only.”

    “Thane get the fighters deployed.”

    “Aye.”

Thane pushed the button for the intercom for the hanger deck to muster the fighters, “All pilots to your fighters, wait for orders to launch.”

“Thane they are lining up in attack formation. If they begin firing I am deploying the Fighters. Commander Idele. Get to your fighter and get them ready.”

“Ciena, I am ready to go. Give me the order.”

“Thane, I cannot have my XO out in a fighter. I need the XO here on the bridge.”

“I know Nash better than anyone. I need to be out there. I can counter him.”

Ciena thought for a moment, “Go Thane. But you had better come back to me. That’s an order.”

“That is an order I plan on following,” He winks at her and runs to the hanger bay.

Moments later Ciena heard Thane come over the comm, “Renegade Squadron awaiting orders.”

    “Deploy.”

    “Roger. Deploying.”

The X-wings head out of the hanger to engage the onslaught of TIE fighters and interceptors coming at them.

Thane said to the fighters with him, “Set S-foils in attack position. Engage enemy fighters at will.”

    “Roger Renegade Leader.”

    Thane knew that voice.

“Kendy? What are you doing out here?”

    “My job sir.”

“Your job is to be on the ship with Ciena. Go back now. That is an order.”

“I’m sorry sir but you know I cannot do that.”

Thane blasted 2 more fighters in front of him.

“Thane,” said Nash, “you had better go now while you still can. I am coming for you specifically.”

Thane sees a TIE interceptor veer off from the group directly at him.

    He knows it’s Nash.

“Nash don’t do this. You can still surrender. The Republic will treat you well.”

“I will NEVER betray my Empire.”

“Nash the Empire is gone. It was defeated.”

    “No. It is regrouping.”

    “What do you mean Nash.”

The two fighters got entangled in a dogfight. Each aiming to destroy the other but each out maneuvering the other.

“I mean that the Republic will see. The Empire will rise again.”

“Nash. They MURDERED your FAMILY. FRIENDS, and EVERYONE you knew. How could you possibly Still support them?”

“Those people deserved to die. Just like you Thane.”

Nash lined Thane up in his sights. He pulled back on the trigger but before the green bolts could be released his craft jarred violently.

    “What the…”

“Thane, he’s caught in our tractor beam. He has no control. Go take out the other fighters.

Nash’s fighter then was locked in a tractor beam being sucked back into the docking back of the Liberty.

    “Ciena. You will regret this.”

“No Nash. YOU will regret this.”

    “Traitor!”

“No Nash. I just came to my senses.”

Nash could do nothing but sit and wait to be captured.

Thane flew his x-wing back into the fray. They had only lost two fighters but the enemy had lost more.

    Many more.

Soon the remaining fighters, overwhelmed by sheer opposing forces, retreated back to the remaining Destroyers.

The remaining ships immediately jumped to Hyperspace while the wreckage of Four Star Destroyers floated in the area once occupied by the Armada.

“Everyone back to your ships,” orders Ciena.

The x-wings then return to the Liberty and other destroyers.

After landing, as his cockpit opened everyone in the docking bay could hear Thane scream.

    “Kendy! Get over here now!”

The pilots looked at him with surprise on their faces.

“Commodore Kyrell,” Ciena yells back, “in my office. NOW. You too Commander Idele.”

Kendy and Thane walked into Ciena’s office.

It was located on the command deck of the Super Star Destroyer just before the bridge and next to her private turbolift which would take her to her private quarters on the deck below.

“Thane, have you lost your mind.”

“Have I lost my mind? Ciena, why are you wearing that flight suit and carrying that helmet? You weren’t going to go out there were you? You shouldn’t be putting yourself I danger. Not now.”

“Thane. I knew what I was doing. Nash would have killed you had I not intervened. I was never in danger. I fired the tractor beam from the bridge then suited up. This is why I asked for you to be transferred out of my command Thane. You cannot separate your personal feelings from your duty.”

“Ciena, you are going to be a mother. You cannot just go taking risks like that.”

“What did you just say Thane?” Kendy asked, a huge smile on her face.

“I said Ciena is pregnant. I just found out myself.”

    Ciena shot him a look.

He knew immediately he had screwed up. Ciena didn’t want anyone to know yet.

“I’m sorry Ciena. I just love you too much to see anything happen to you. Or to our child.”

“I’m so happy for both of you!”

“You will say nothing to anyone Commander. Do I make myself clear?”

    “Aye, Admiral.”

“Now Thane. How do you think I should handle this situation? You were entirely out of line there in the docking bay.”

“You want to punish me? Kendy is the one who disobeyed a direct order.”

“She will be disciplined too Thane, but you didn’t have to scream like that. Especially in front of the other pilots. We might be married Thane but when we are on duty I am your superior officer and I will handle the disciplining of the pilots. Do I make myself perfectly clear?”

    “Clear as a crystal.”

“Now Commander Idele. Thane is right. He did order you to return to the ship.”

“Admiral, with all due respect. I am the wing commander. Isn’t it my job to be out there flying and commanding my wing in combat?”

“Yes. Unless another, higher ranking officer is leading. In that case that officer assumes wing commander responsibilities and can send anyone he wants back to the ship.”

“Bottom line. You disobeyed an order.”

    “Yes, Admiral.”

“I will decide the disciplinary action later. Right now, Thane come with me. I want to go talk to Nash. Dismissed Commander.”

Kendy turned and walked out of the office heading first to the locker room where she changed out of her flight suit and into her command uniform then proceeded to the bridge.

    Thanks,
I did a lot of researching on Wookieepedia about the things like the Galactic Concordance and such but nothing was concrete so I did take some liberties with things. I hope you enjoy the rest of it. I want it to be 10 chapters and I am writing 7 now but I don't know it might be longer.

I hope you enjoy the rest!

Chapter #3 - liked very much the reunion with Verine and the trust that Ciena has earned and her promotion demonstrates tangibly that she has proven competent and trustworthy. Happy they can be assigned to Jelucan. Interesting about Thane and his family being so definitively on the outs.

    ~~

#4 - SQUEEEEEEE on the wedding, and for Lor and Luke's appearance and the beginnings of a truce with Thane and his family. I love that Thane was receptive to the wise and true advice to mend things while you have the chance. @};-

    ~!
#5 - ramped up action and Nash with a grudge [face_worried] And wow, the wonderfulness of the news personally but how things have gotten complicated professionally with Thane and Ciena usually working in different places and now in a fight-zone.

    Chapter 7

30 Minutes Later – Liberty Detention Area

Nash paces back and forth in his cell in the detention area of the Liberty deep in the interior of the ship.

A single guard stood at the door to the cell block.

Nash said to himself, “Ciena will pay for this. She has no idea what she is dealing with.”

“Excuse me Nash, what was that?

Ciena stopped in front of his cell with Thane by her side, still in his flight uniform.

“Get out of my face Thane.”

“Nash, what is wrong with you? We used to be friends.”

“Key word Thane, used to, which means we aren’t anymore.”

“Why because I left a military which murdered billions of people, and enslaved thousands of races? Is that really something you want to be a part of?”

Nash looked at Thane, “Thane you know how that affected me. I was a wreck for weeks. But I cut all ties, I accepted it. I even cut my hair to show my loyalty. I got over it Thane. You should have too.”

“Nash, I don’t know what they did to you. But I assure you the Republic will not resort to torture like the Empire would have.”

“Then they won’t get any information. They will have to kill me first.”

Ciena interjected, “Don’t say that Nash. You are our friend we don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”

“You are NOT my friends. My friends are not traitors.”

“Nash, you cannot betray a government which can no longer govern. They signed the treaty. The war is over.”

“It will NEVER be over Ciena. Please leave.”

Ciena sighed. She and Thane walked out of the cell block.

Before leaving completely Ciena said, “If you need anything the guards can assist you.”

“Hmph,” said Nash as he sat down on the bed staring at the ceiling.

“I don’t know what we are going to do with him Thane. He has become fanatical. He is too dangerous to be kept here. We need to get him back to Hosnian Prime as soon as possible.”

“You’re right. I will contact Command and see what they want us to do with him.”

They arrived at the bridge and Thane got right to his station to contact Command.

The image of Admiral Ackbar appeared in front of him.

    “Situation report Commodore.”

“Sir we destroyed Four Imperial Class Star Destroyers and numerous fighters. We also captured an Imperial Line Captain. His name is Nash Windrider. He was a classmate of ours at the academy.”

“Commodore Kyrell, I want him back here as soon as possible. Leave a few ships there for border patrol and report back here immediately. I will contact Senator Organa-Solo.”

“Aye sir. We are heading back to Republic Command.”

“No. Bring him to your headquarters. If the Chancellor finds out about this we could all be in big trouble.”

    “Roger that sir.”

Ciena had been listening and watching the whole conversation.

    “Back to Jelucan.”

    “Back to Jelucan.”

    “Set your course for Jelucan.”

    “Aye Admiral.”

As the Liberty exits hyperspace over the planet of Jelucan the shuttle is already descending to the surface.

Two X-wings also leave the hanger to escort the shuttle down to the planet surface.

At that moment the flagship of the Republic Fleet Home One reverted to real space.

“Admiral Ackbar has arrived Ciena,” Thane said over the comm as he piloted one of the fighters escorting the shuttle carrying his wife, Nash, and a dozen Republic Special Forces troopers to act as security for the prisoner.

The shuttle touched down on the landing pad while the fighters circled overhead.

Once Ciena, Nash, and the troopers were safely inside the Jelucan jail Thane and Kendy landed their X-wings and proceeded to the command center.

“Everyone muster at Central Platform for VIP arrival,” Thane’s voice echoed over the PA system inside the Administration building.

As he exited he saw all the soldiers, pilots, and officers lining up in perfect formation facing the platform awaiting the Grand Admiral’s and the Senator’s arrival.

Just then Thane sees the Lambda-Class Shuttle with the New Republic Starbird brightly displayed land right next to Ciena’s shuttle.

The ramp dropped and Thane called the assembled group to attention.

Grand Admiral Ackbar emerged with Senator Leia Organa-Solo at his side, flanked by 6 members of the Senate Guard.

“Please please everyone there is no need for this. Please return to your posts.”

    “Dismissed!” Thane shouted.

    The crowd dispersed.

“Commodore Thane Kyrell, this is Senator Leia Organa-Solo. She is our sole supporter in the Senate and trying to rally more to our cause.”

“It is wonderful to meet you. Your highness,” Thane said as he bowed before her.

“My planet died years ago Commodore. I am no longer Royalty.”

“I know. I was there. That was one of the events which helped me make my decision to leave the Empire.”

    “The prisoner Commodore.”

They begin walking towards the prison area.

“Yes Nash Windrider. He is actually an Alderaanian, which is why it is a good thing you are here your highness maybe you can get through to him. He is being very hostile during questioning and is right now under heavy guard by some of our contingent of Special Forces Operators.”

They enter the prison and see Ciena standing in front of a window looking in on an interrogation room.

Seated at the table, shackled with guards is Nash.

Leia looks in, “I know him. His family was friends with mine. One of the noble houses. Please let me talk to him.”

Ackbar looked at Thane and Ciena who seemed to agree.

“Very well. But if ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING goes wrong I will order him executed.”

“You will do no such thing without my orders Admiral. Is that clear?”

    “Yes Senator.”

Leia files past the guards and enters the room.

The questions asked to Nash were standard, what is the Imperial Remnant up to? Who are its leaders? How many ships do they have? Where is their base of operations?

    Standard questions.

After nearly an hour with no progress being made Leia rose from the table and left the room.

“He is very dedicated. Whatever the Empire did to him, they did it well.”

“They rule through fear. He is afraid he will be tortured if he is returned to the Empire.”

“That’s it! Commodore Kyrell you just gave me a good idea. Thank you.”

Leia ran ast the guard and walked back into the interrogation room.

“Captain Windrider. We are going to release you.”

Nash looked at her with a combination of fear and joy.

“We will take you back to the border where you will be turned over to the Empire. Naturally they will assume you betrayed them and they will interrogate you. However, you know where their will lead.”

“So if you want a good deal, I would suggest you start talking and tell me what I want to know. Or I will make it seem like you cooperated with us. Then you will be tortured by the government you love so much.”

    Nash knew she wasn’t kidding.

If they took him back, he would be tortured.

But if he stayed here he would at least get a fair trial.

    “Ok. I will tell you.”

Nash went on to tell about the newly formed First Order, under the command of a new leader. A mysterious humanoid named Snoke.

He explained that they have no base of operations but just a flagship which is constantly jumping through hyperspace to avoid detection within the unknown regions.

He also said how his orders were to test the response of the Republic by staging border incursions.

An hour later, Leia had all the information she needed.

She could return to the Senate with some evidence that the Imperial Remnant is a danger to the Republic.

“Thank you Captain Windrider. You will be taken to the capitol to stand trial.”

Leia then signaled to the guard, who opened the door to let her out.

“You’re taking her with you?” Ciena asked, a puzzled look on her face.

“Yes. I hope his testimony at his trial can be used to convince the senate that this New Order or whatever he called it is a danger and we need to build up our military forces.”

“We defeated them this time. We can again.”

“We lost two Star Destroyers Ciena,” Thane said, “We can’t afford to lose anymore. We need more ships before we take them on. But with the military disarmament act capital ship production is is extremely limited and thus not happening at all. They would destroy us if they attacked.”

“We need to do something Thane.”

“Yes, we need to let the Senator do her job. The evidence is irrefutable. She shouldn’t have a problem.”

Thane pulled Ciena to the side as the guard prepared Nash for the walk to the shuttle.

“Ciena, you have to tell the Admiral.”

    “I can’t Thane. Not now. I will I just can’t now.”

“If you don’t tell him I will Ciena.”

“Please don’t Thane. My career will be over.”

“There were plenty of officers who had children. They were able to keep their careers.”

“They were also men Thane. It’s not hard for a man to get back to work quickly after their wife has a child. For the woman it is harder. We need bonding time with the baby. We need time off. I just don’t know what will happen.”

“The only way you will know is to tell him.”

    “No. It’s too soon.”

“This is your decision Ciena. I don’t want you to do anything you will regret.”

Ciena looked at him with a comedic look on her face, “I married you didn’t I?”

“Very funny. You know what I mean.”

“Admiral, Commodore, thank you for your actions. You have proven yourselves yet again. The best officers in the fleet.”

“Thank you sir. Just doing our duty.”

“And did it well. Commodore I hear you almost died.”

“I was never in danger sir. I knew my squadron members and Ciena had my back.”

“That they did. And yes she did. I might regret saying this later but I don’t regret putting you two together. If you ever need anything contact me. Anytime day or night.”

    “Thank you sir. We will.”

Ackbar says goodbye to them both then boards the shuttle with Leia and Nash to head back up to his flagship.

“When will you tell him CIena?” Thane said as they watched his shuttle ascend then get smaller and smaller until it finally disappeared from their sight.

“Soon. Maybe when I start showing and can’t hide it anymore.”

“I will tell him Thane. Just not now.” Ciena then walked away back into the Administration Building heading to her office.

“She hasn’t been herself lately Thane,” he turned around to see Kendy standing there.

“How long have you been there Kendy?”

“Long enough. Maybe I could talk to her? You know woman to woman?”

“That might work. Keep me updated.”

“I will Thane.” Kendy turned and strolled towards Ciena’s office.

    Tears streamed down Ciena’s face.

She had to tell Ackbar. Thane was right but if she told Ackbar now he would put her on leave.

This was a crucial time. She needed to be at 100%

Just then there was a knock on her door.

    “Who is it?”

    “Kendy. Can I come in?”

    “Yes.”

Kendy entered into the office. When she saw Ciena crying she immediately ran to her to comfort her.

“Ciena, this is killing you. This stress cannot be good for the baby. You need to tell the Admiral. Or is it something else?”

“It’s not just the baby Kendy. It’s Thane too. I owe him more. He stood with my family when we no one else would. He risked his own life and freedom for me. I love him too much to disgrace him at all. And now that he is reconciling with his family I need to be there for him as well, but with my work and having to take care of this baby I don’t know what to do Kendy.”

“Ciena, I knew from your first day at the Academy that you loved Thane and that he loved you. You two were made for each other. You know Thane would do anything for you. And he did. He needs you to not be so stressed over this. It is not good for the baby and he cares about you and the baby. He wants the baby and I know you do too.”

Ciena sat with her and they both cried.

Thane jumped on his ridgecrawler and headed at full speed out of the city. It certainly was changed from how he remembered it the first time he came back after deserting the Empire.

The stone buildings he remembered were starting to make a comeback and the pre-fab Imperial housing was fading out.

As he rode outside the city he turned and headed straight towards his family’s house. He needed to talk to someone.

If CIena wouldn’t talk to him then he was going to find someone who would.

As he was heading to his house he decided maybe Paron Ree would be a better person to talk to.

He would know his daughter better than anyone.

He changes his destination and heads towards Ciena’s home.

Paron Ree was sitting in his living room with his wife Verine when he heard a ridgecrawler pull up outside.

He saw Thane through the window coming up to the door.

Thane, ever the gentleman knocked on the door.

    “Come in Thane.”

Thane opened the door and was face-to-face with his father-in-law.

The sad look on his face made him think this might be bad news as Ciena was not with him.

    “Is Ciena alright Thane?”

“Physically yes she is fine. That is what I want to talk to you about. She hasn’t been herself lately.”

Thane greets Verine and then sits down in the chair across from them.

“We have noticed too Thane. Is something wrong?”

“Well we have only told one other person but that was by mistake, but Ciena is pregnant.”

Paron’s jaw dropped and a large smile came across Verine’s face.

“We are going to be grandparents?”

“Yes. She is stressing out about the baby. I told her there is nothing to be worried about but she won’t stop stressing. She is afraid of what it would mean for us and our careers.”

“Ciena has always been one for honor Thane, you know that. She might just think that the Republic will try to tell her she broke her honor by becoming pregnant which means she will most likely have to take lots of leave or resign completely. She just doesn’t want to take that chance.”

“I told her Admiral Ackbar likes her and he is a good man. He will understand. But she wants to hide it from him until she can’t anymore.”

“That is her choice Thane. I don’t think any of us would be able to convince her otherwise. Once Ciena makes up her mind about something she can be very stubborn. You should know that better than anyone.”

“I do but is there any way you can help me?”

    “We can try Thane.”

At that moment Thane’s holo-comm began to ring.

“Excuse me for a second.” He got up and went to answer his comm.

    “Kyrell.”

“Thane. Where are you? We need to talk.”

“I am at your parent’s house. We need to talk to you. Come here.”

“You’re WHERE. Thane you didn’t tell them did you?”

“Yes I did Ciena. They have the right to know.”

“I’ll be right there, Then. We will talk about this later.”

Her image disappeared and he returned to Paron and Verine.

“I’m sorry you had to hear that. But that is what I am talking about. Something is wrong.”

“I just think she’s under a lot of stress Thane. You have only been married for two weeks and already you are going to have a baby. It would make anyone stressed. You have to be understanding and sensitive to her needs during this time.”

“It’s not only that. We just had a skirmish on the border with the Imperial Remnant or whatever they call themselves now. I went out to command the fighter wing and when I returned she had suited up and was ready to go out and fly. She is an Admiral but also too important right now. Both for the Republic and for the baby. She shouldn’t have put herself at risk like that.”

“Thane, you know she has that dedication to duty. She always will. A baby won’t change that.”

All of a sudden the door burst open.

Ciena stood in the doorway a look of pure anger on her face.

“Thane! How could you?” she yelled.

“Ciena please calm down. I am just try..”

“No Thane. This isn’t something I was ready to tell anyone yet. Not until I was sure. I know the doctor said I was able to have a baby but you never know what might happen. Which is why I wanted to wait a few months until I was sure I was definitely sure I was having a baby.”

    She broke down into tears.

Thane ran to her and embraced her.

Her parents also headed towards her to embrace her.

“Are you ok dear?” Verine asked.

    “Yes. For now.”

“Honey, don’t worry. Thane had your best interests in heart. He was seeking advice. This is all new to him as well. He loves you too much to see anything happen to you.”

“You had gone off to talk to Kendy. I had to talk to someone. I originally went to talk to my family but I figured yours would know you better, so I came here.”

Ciena cried some more, “Thane, I just don’t want to get everyone’s hopes up until I know for sure.”

Thane kissed her and held her close.

“Why didn’t you tell me that is why you were so afraid to tell everyone?”

“Because Thane. This means a lot to me and I don’t want to make any kind rash decision and then end up being wrong. If I was to tell Ackbar and he puts me on leave and then I lose the baby it would just kill me. I don’t know what I would do.”

“Ciena, you have my full support. You always have and you always will.”

“Same with us,” Paron says for himself and Verine.

“Thank you all. It is so nice to be so loved. After all the Evil I have experienced it is nice to see love for a change.”

“Always Ciena, Always.” Thane said as he kissed her forehead and pushed the one of her curls out of her face.

Two days later – Ciena’s bedroom

“Thane. I think it is time we get our own place. I don’t think my parents want us living here forever.”

Thane laughs, “Ciena, your father and I have been working on just that. I wanted to wait to tell you but I think we found a place. It is close and a good size for us and the baby.”

Ciena smiles and hugs him, “Where is it? I would like to see it.”

“We will go in the morning. You have my word. But for now please go to sleep. You need your rest and less stress. Stress is bad for the baby.”

“I am a military officer. Stress is part of my job.”

“Not anymore. I am taking over most of your duties. All you have to do is be there. I already talked to Kendy and we will not let you be stressed. As your Executive Officer I am within my rights to take over.”

Ciena smiled, “That is why I love you so much.”

She snuggled into him while he turned off the light and they fell asleep.

Ciena awoke very early the next morning. She couldn’t help it she was too excited.

She was going to let Thane sleep for only another half hour then they were going to get going to see the new house.

She gets out of bed and walks into the kitchen.

The thought of real food again makes her happy. She remembered the nutrition shakes the Empire made all its officers drink and she loathed it.

She went about starting some breakfast for everyone in the house.

Thane wandered out of the bedroom, seeing her standing there cooking breakfast, he smiled and walked over to her.

He embraced her from behind and lightly kissed her neck.

He whispered in her ear, “You look gorgeous today.”

“I don’t even have any makeup or anything. Heck I have bed hair.”

“Which makes you even look more gorgeous. You don’t need to have makeup on or your hair a certain way. I love you for you Ciena. And I am even more happy that you are having my baby.”

“Well I still have to go see the doctor. I made an appointment for tomorrow. Hopefully things will go well.”

He kissed her, “They will. I will be going with you.”

“No Thane. I need you to run things with the fleet while I am at the doctor.”

“You will not be there long. Plus, you will be here on the planet. You won’t be out of communication Ciena. And you know Kendy can handle things. I want to go with you. I want to be there for you.”

“Ok Thane,” she said as she looked at his bright blue eyes then kissed him again.

At that point Paron and Verine came out of their bedroom just in time for breakfast.

“Good morning sleepy heads. You are just in time for breakfast.”

“My you are in a good mood this morning,” said Paron.

“I am just excited. I can’t wait to see this house that Thane found for us.”

“Now honey remember you haven’t gotten it yet. Thane and I still have to go and negotiate a good price. But with all that has happened and with you both working for the Government it shouldn’t be hard for you to get a good price.”

“So pappa, how are things at work?”

“Going great. We have finalized the election process for the senate and local government and should be having elections in the next few days.”

“That’s great,” Thane said. “I just hope the corruption we fought to eliminate doesn’t return. I would hate to see this planet fall back to how it was when it is just now returning to its former glory.”

“This model holds the elected representatives responsible for their decisions. With the people being able to recall the candidate or office holder as they see fit. Such as if the public thinks their leaders are not working for them or in their best interest they can be removed by a simple vote. All we have to do now is make sure that the law enforcement professionals don’t get corrupted the same way that they don’t act in the same way to leave those leaders in office. We are trying to get that worked out as well.”

“Sounds good to me,” Ciena said as she served the breakfast to everyone seated.

Thane gets up to assist her but she says, “Sit Thane. You have already done enough.”

Ciena then sits at the table and they all eat their breakfast while they talk about how the planet is starting to come around and be like it was.

“Come on Thane. I want to see this house!” Ciena said as she waited outside the house for him.

She looked over and smiled as she saw him approach with the muunyak.

“I wanted to make sure you had a good ride.”

She hugged him them climbed on the muunyak.

Thane and Paron then walked next to the muunyak as they made their way down the trail to the house.

After a short time, they arrived. It was not what Ciena was expecting.

Ciena had been expecting a small, two-bedroom house like her family had.

This was clearly a second-waver house. It was large, with four-bedrooms, 3 refreshers, and numerous luxurious amenities.

The look on Ciena’s face told Thane everything he needed to know. She loved it but she was uncomfortable.

“Thane. I don’t know about this.”

“What is wrong with it? Isn’t it a great place to raise a family?”

“Yes, but I think it is too nice. You know I have a certain way of living that I am used to.”

“Yes, we know that,” said a voice from behind them.

They turned around and saw Oris and Ganaire Kyrell approaching the house.

“This is our way to tell you both we care. This is our wedding gift for you.”

    “Father, this isn’t necessary.”

“Thane, please. We want to do this. We treated Ciena and you like dirt when you were children and we want to make it up to you.”

“Father, this is far from making up for a lifetime of abuse.”

“True, but it is a first step. Please accept this gift from us Thane.”

“Ciena it is up to you.”

“I do think that Oris and Ganaire are trying Thane, but like I said I am a valley girl. This style of living is not what I am used to.”

“Ciena,” Paron said to her, “You married a good man. Your mother and I want you to have things we didn’t. Thane and his family can give you what we never could or never can. Eventually you have to realize that Thane will do anything for you, as will we. We want you to take this house dear. This does not betray your heritage. It only makes it better. It shows that someone from the valley can ascend and it might be historic here on Jelucan. People don’t think that any social movement is acceptable but you broke the mold Ciena.”

Tears streamed down Ciena’s face. She embraced Thane and kissed him.

    “Thank you.”

Thane pushed the curls out of her face and smiled at her.

“I told you Ciena. I would do anything for you. As will my family.”

She looked over at Thane’s parents, “Thank you as well. You have no idea how much this means to me.”

“It is the least we could do dear,” said Ganaire Kyrell.

They all come together and embrace eachother before Thane and Ciena go into their new home.

    Chapter 8

6 Months Later – Bridge of the Liberty

    “Captain Idele, report.”

“Admiral, we have received transmissions from our vessels on border patrol. No further Imperial aggression or violations have occurred. Ships are staying within concordance boundaries.”

“Thank you Captain. Please connect me to Republic Command.”

    “Aye Admiral.”

Ciena was at this time beginning to show. Her pregnancy was no longer a secret and Thane had finally convinced her to tell Admiral Ackbar. Reluctantly she agreed.

“Republic command up on comms Admiral.”

“Thank you Captain. I will take it in the briefing room.”

Ciena left her chair and walked into the briefing room. Sitting down in the Commander’s Chair facing the hologram of Admiral Ackbar.

“Admiral thank you for taking my call. I have some updates for you.”

    “Proceed Admiral.”

“Well sir we have ships patrolling in the western reaches and other outer rim areas. So far no other signs of Imperial aggression or boundary encroachments. It looks like the Empire might have finnaly given up.”

“I doubt that very much Admiral. They are just regrouping. We should still maintain alert status.”

“Aye sir. I will keep my ships on alert status.”

“Is there something else you need to add Admiral?” seeing the look on her face.

    “Yes sir.”

    “Proceed.”

“Sir. I wanted to let you know that I am pregnant. I love working for the Republic and I am glad you gave me the chance for this. But I don’t know what will happen now and in fact I am a little worried.”

“Congratulations Admiral! That is a great thing to hear. I don’t think it is appropriate to discuss this over holo. Come to my office with Commodore Kyrell and we can all discuss this.”

“Aye sir,” Ciena’s face fell. She knew this couldn’t be good.

“Don’t fret it Admiral. This is a good thing. I promise you.”

Ciena smiled and said, “I will get Thane and we will report ASAP sir.”

“Great Admiral. I will see you soon. And congratulations again.”

With that the holocomm shut down and the image disappeared.

Ciena left the briefing room and returned to the bridge.

“Captain, get a hold of Commodore Kyrell and have him report here immediately. I am heading to my cabin. Have him report there when he arrives.”

“Yes Admiral,” Kendy said as she immediately headed over to the communications console.

Ciena returned to her cabin and laid down on her bed. She had been feeling drained the last couple months.

It wasn’t long until she fell asleep.

She awoke what seemed like a short time later but in reality it had been hours.

Thane was sitting on the side of her bed lightly pushing her curls out of her face.

“Welcome back,” Thane smiled as she sat up in the bed. “What do you need?”

“I notified Admiral Ackbar about my condition. He said he wanted us both to report to Republic Command. I’m worried Thane.”

“I’m sure it’s nothing Ciena. How many times have we gone to Ackbar’s office and gotten in trouble?”

    “Well, never.”

“Exactly my point. So let’s go and then we will see what he has to say.”

Ciena reached over to her bedside table and pressed her intercom button connecting her to the bridge.

    “Bridge. This is the Captain.”

“Kendy. Set course for Hosnian Prime. We need to talk to Admiral Ackbar.”

“Ma’am I was contacted I was to tell you that the Admiral is no longer on Hosnian Prime but he is on Coruscant. We have already set course and are currently in hyperspace heading there now.”

“Great work Kendy! Notify me when we get there.”

    “Yes Admiral.”

    The intercom clicks off.

Ciena stands up and embraces Thane.

    “I’m worried Thane.”

“I told you Ciena. You have nothing to be worried about.”

“Coruscant. Why is he having us go there?”

“Don’t you remember Thane? The facility on Hosnian Prime is being built so they moved the Senate and Republic Command to Coruscant for the interim.

“Oh yes I do remember now.”

The intercom beeps. She pushes the button to answer.

“We have arrived at Coruscant, Admiral.”

“Thank you Kendy. Please prepare my shuttle.”

Twenty Minutes Later – Republic Command

“Admiral, Commodore come in.” The voice booms over the intercom connected to the outer door to Admiral Ackbar’s office suite.

Ciena takes a deep breath and opens the door.

“Welcome. And might I also say congratulations! Do we know the sex of the baby?”

“Yes sir. It is a boy.”

    “That’s great Admiral.”

“Sir,” Ciena says taking a seat. “You didn’t call us all the way down here to ask that question. Excuse me for being frank but why exactly are we here?”

Ackbar laughed, “Always right to business. I knew there was a reason liked you Admiral.”

“Well you are here because as you know with your condition the undue stress of your position would be too much for the Republic to ask of you during this time. It might affect the health of your child and we cannot risk that. Thus I have no choice but to grant you a leave of absence for the next few months.”

Ciena went to say something but Ackbar interjected, “Before you say anything Admiral. This decision is final. It is for your health and your baby’s health. You will be allowed to remain in the Naval Forces and can re-assume your command when you feel ready after the baby comes. As of this moment Commodore Kyrell you are promoted to Rear Admiral and will assume command of the Outer Rim Defense Fleet.”

    Ciena flashed Thane a look.

Thane said to Ackbar, “Admiral is there any other way that Ciena could stay on active duty until the baby is born?”

“I told you Admiral the decision is final; however, I can look into other venues for Fleet Admiral Kyrell to work until she is able to re-assume command of the Fleet.”

“What about reversing our current assignments?”

“You mean putting her at the flight academy?”

    “Yes sir.”

“That might work. Admiral what do you think?”

“I do love to fly sir but I think I would be better in another capacity.”

“What capacity do you think you can fill?”

“Planetary Elections. You need someone to oversee the elections to make sure nothing goes wrong.”

“We have people for that Admiral. I will go with Admiral Kyrell’s proposal. As of now you are in charge of the Academy on Jelucan. Consider this temporary. As soon as you are ready I need you back on the bridge and ready to fly!”

    “Yes sir,” Ciena said softly.

“Ciena, this in no way means you can’t do your job. You just need a position with less stress right now. You know I would never keep you down and as soon as you say you are ready I will give command back over to you. After the baby comes of course.”

    “Ok Thane. Thank you Admiral.”

“No Admiral. Thank you. You are a great asset to this navy and I hope you continue to be.”

“Admiral Ackbar, I have a question?”

    “Proceed.”

“Where is Nash Windrider and how is he doing?”

“He is in the Republic Prison on Hosnian Prime awaiting his tribunal. He has refused to give up any other information about this so called ‘First Order’ but we are working on him and trying to get the senate to back us to keep our military alert raised. So far no success.”

“You know how it is with politicans,” Thane laughed, “they always think they know better than those who actually do the job. Most of them have probably never even served.”

“True Admiral but there are some who have. Senator Organ-Solo for one, and there are others. They just want to put the war behind them.”

“Admiral, when you leave here have your Star Destroyer go to the Western Reaches. Recently we have received intel about possible Imperial movements around and on the planet of Jakku. I believe you are both familiar?”

    “Yes sir. We are.”

“It’s something I’d like to forget,” said Ciena.

    “Me too.”

“Well you can’t forget about it until you have investigated the planet fully. It is under the control of the Hutt Cartel and Niima the Hutt. If the Hutt Cartel is associating with the Imperials we need to know it.”

“Well sir with all due respect a huge Super Star Destroyer appearing over Jakku would draw too much attention. Don’t you think?”

“Of course. Set your course to just outside the system and then head in by shuttle. It should draw less attention.”

2 Days Later – Jakku – Western Reaches

The Liberator emerges from hyperspace just outside the system.

A small Lambda Shuttle emerges from it and jumps to hyperspace emerging just inside the system.

With the lack of landing pads or starports on Jakku they set course for the desert just outside the outpost.

To gain more intelligence they fly over and survey the entire planet.

They come to the battlefield, known locally as, The Graveyard of Giants, where they see the wreckage of numerous Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari Star Cruisers laying on the surface.

Then Ciena sees it. The wreckage of the Inflictor. Her first command.

A tear rolls down her cheek, “I did that Thane. That is there because of me.”

“Ciena, you were doing your duty. Nothing about this was your fault. It was Grand Moff Randd who was responsible. He thought the Empire could win with a power vacuum in the Empire. Nothing out this way for any type of Imperial Movements.”

Thane maneuvers the shuttle into a landing configuration and touches down outside Niima Outpost.

While walking through the outpost they came across a familiar figure.

Lor San Tekka was sitting in the outpost amongst the scavengers and other natives.

“Thane, Ciena, what are you doing here?” he askd with surprise.

“We were told to come here to search for some information about possible imperial movements and possibly activities here.”

“Yes Thane, you have come to the right place. I can help you. Please come to my hut.”

    “Why are you here?”

“I came here to get away. To meditate and to gain more followers. Most of the alien species of the galaxy were exiled or enslaved under the Empire. I am here trying to negotiate with Niima the Hutt to build a settlement in Kelvin Ravine for myself and my followers. A place where we can live in peace.”

“Well the Republic is peaceful and you are always welcome there.”

“I wish it was that easy Thane.”

    They walk into his hut.

    “Please sit.”

“No I think we will stand. This shouldn’t take long.”

“Are you really going have her stand in her condition? Congratulations by the way.”

    “Ciena’s fine”

    Ciena shot him a look.

“Ok fine,” they all sit down with Lor.

“Before we begin you have to promise me you will help me to negotiate with Niima the Hutt to get my settlement built.”

    “You have a deal.”

    “What information do you have?”

“Information that will be of us to you. Information about the Imperial Remnant.”

    Chapter 9

3 Hours Later – Bridge of the Liberty

“Set course for Coruscant,” Thane orders as he runs to the bridge with Ciena.

    “Yes Admiral. Jumping now.”

As the ship enters hyperspace Ciena looks at Thane, “What are we going to do now?”

“We have to tell Ackbar. This is worse than we thought.”

Thane then turns to Kendy, “Captain, what is our ETA to Coruscant?”

    “Just under 3 hours sir.”

    “Inform us when we arrive.”

Thane and Ciena went to the turbolift to Ciena’s quarters.

When they got there Ciena lay down on the bed. A few seconds and she was out cold. She was exhausted.

Thane went and sat down at the Admiral’s desk. He began to review the fleet assignments and personnel. He knew reviews were coming up and would do his best to evaluate all the members of his ship and his fleet.

He was reviewing Kendy’s file when the alert went off indicating they had arrived at Coruscant.

Thane didn’t want to wake Ciena and with her being on leave she didn’t need to go anyway.

He pressed the intercom, “Prepare the shuttle. I will be right down.”

As his shuttle took off he was pondering on how he would break this news to Admiral Ackbar.

“Just be straight up and honest with him,” Thane said.

The shuttle landed at Republic Command and to Thane’s surprise Grand Admiral Ackbar, along with Senator Organa-Solo were awaiting his arrival.

“Admiral Kyrell,” Ackbar said upon his exit from the shuttle, “I believe you have some important intel for us.”

“Yes Admiral I do. Senator.” He nodded at Senator Organa-Solo.

“It seems that the Empire, or as they are now known< The First Order, have been buying up lots of raw materials. It seems they are building factories in the Unknown regions and building more Star Destroyers.”

This got an immediate look of terror from Leia. She knew this could be trouble.

    “Go on Admiral.”

“They are using Hutt Cartel influence and money to build these ships. However, it will take them a while as they do not have anywhere near the amount of workers they did during the heyday of the Empire. These new Star Destroyers are supposedly supposed to be larger and more powerful than the previous models. They are also building new and upgraded TIE fighters. They will be shielded and better armored. This First Order is building a tremendous war machine.”

“We have to tell someone about this!” Ackbar said in an excited tone.

“I have been trying to tell the Senate and the Chancellor this since the war ended. No one wants to hear it. All they said is I am turning into my father. I want to rule the galaxy by military force. That isn’t true at all. In fact, anyone who ever knew me knows I had no idea that Darth Vader was my father until Luke told me.”

Thane looked at her amazed, “Darth Vader was your Father? I thought your father was Bail Organa?”

“He was. I was adopted. It is a long story I will explain it later. Right now we need to do something. We need to form some sort of group to counteract this threat.”

“The senate will never go for it.”

“Let me deal with the Senate.,” she turns and looks at Thane, “Admiral thank you. You can return to your ship. We will contact you if needed.”

Ciena awoke in her bed on the Liberator. Thane was nowhere in sight.

He must be on the bridge. She thought to herself.

She left her room and went to the bridge.

Upon arrival Ciena noticed they were in Coruscant Orbit.

She turned to Kendy, “Captain how long have we been here?”

“Just a few hours. Admiral Kyrell went down to talk to Admiral Ackbar about the intel you both retrieved on Jakku.”

    “Without me. Why?”

“I wanted to let you sleep,” Thane said as he arrived on the bridge.

“Thane, where have you been? What’s Happened?” Ciena said excitedly.

“Ciena, calm down,” he put his hands on her shoulders, “I was ok. I went to see Admiral Ackbar and Senator Organa-Solo. They said they would take care of things. Now you go rest. That is an order.”

“I am a Fleet Admiral Thane. You are a Vice Admiral. I am your superior.”

“Not right now you aren’t You are on leave from this fleet and will be on the planet administering the flight academy tomorrow morning per Admiral Ackbar’s orders.”

“Ugh alright Thane.” She walks off the bridge and back to her cabin where she falls asleep instantly.

The next day she will start her new position.

    3 Months Later

    “Thane! It’s time.”

    Thane awoke groggily. “What Ciena?”

“I said it’s time. I am having the baby Thane.”

Thane realized what she was saying and jumped out of bed. He pressed the intercom button and requested the doctor immediately to the administration building on Jelucan.

“Come on Ciena. We need to get to the shuttle.”

“Oh yeah Thane. That’s a great idea let me waddle over there.”

Thane was at a loss. He pushed the button again. This time for Kendy, “Kendy get the Ciena’s and my suite pronto. It’s time.”

Kendy heard what Thane was saying and jumped out of bed. Being a member of the command statt of the ship she was on the same level as Ciena and Thane so it was a short distance.

She closed the distance within a few seconds and helped Thane get Ciena to the shuttle.

When they landed there was a medical team waiting. They immediately took Ciena into the delivery room. Thane was left outside.

He told Kendy “Contact our families. They will want to be here for this,” and he ran into the delivery room with the doctor to be with Ciena.

As the family members started showing up Kendy handled everything. She directed them to the waiting room to await word on the baby.

Just after Oris and Ganaire Kyrell arrived Thane emerged from the delivery room. The smile on his face meant things went ok.

“She’s doing fine. She and the baby are ok. They are resting. Family will be allowed to visit in a bit.”

He turned around and went back into the room.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Ciena was moved to her room a few minutes later when Thane entered.

She was still asleep and so was his son beside her.

He watched them both and he knew how lucky he truly was.

Then a thought went through his head. We never thought up a name for him. We were always too busy with other things.

He walked over and gave Ciena a gentle kiss. It was enough to wake her up.

“Hey babe,” Thane said to her, “how are you feeling?”

“Hey yourself. I am feeling better but still sore. How is the baby?”

Thane moved out of the way and Ciena broke out into tears and began beaming the biggest smile he had ever seen.

“Ciena we never thought of a name.”

“I did. I have been for a while Thane. I want to call him Paron Oris Kyrell. I want him named after our fathers.”

Thane did his best to hide his emotions but he couldn’t help it and he broke into tears.

“That is amazing Ciena. I have no objections.”

“Can the grandparents come in?” Paron asked as he stuck his head in the door after having knocked.

    “Of course Paron. Come in.”

Soon the whole room was filled with family members. They each took turns holding the baby then they asked Ciena the inevitable question, “What is his name?”

“Well we decided to name him after the two people who had the most influence in our lives. We decided to name him Paron Oris Kyrell.”

At that time Paron and Oris both began to cry.

That was one of the greatest honors anyone could have been given. Either Valley or Aristocracy.

They all embraced and Ciena smiled at each one of them. Tears welling in her eyes.

She would have to stay in the medical center for another few days until she could be fully checked out by her person physician.

    2 Days Later

Ciena and Thane left the medical center holding their baby in their arms. As they walked down the main stairs they saw that everyone had assembled in the courtyard.

Then they remembered. It was election day.

Ciena and Thane both went to the line to vote. When they saw the potential list of candidates they froze.

There at the top of the list, was the name Paron Ree.

Ciena had no idea her father was running for any office. But here it was.

He was on the ballot for Planetary Governor.

Planetary Governors are in charge of all divisions of planetary government and responds directly to the Senator on all governmental matters.

Ciena and Thane take turns going to the voting stations. They vote, of course, for Ciena’s father, then head back to their house.

Since the muunyak is at her parent’s house they have no choice but to take the Ridgecrawlers back to their house.

When they arrive Ciena is stunned. The house is gorgeous. Obviously Thane has been busy the past couple days getting it ready for the baby.

He walked Ciena and his new son to the Nursery. When Ciena opened the door she was thrilled.

The room was painted a light shade of blue. Around it were small stuffed animals from Jelucan as well as all other corners of the galaxy.

There was a white crib with matching changing table and a chair that Ciena or Thane could sit in while feeding or otherwise caring for the baby.

Ciena had just put the baby down when there was a knock at their door.

Wondering who it could be Thane grabbed his blaster pistol from the drawer, set it to stun, then went to open the door. What he saw next surprised him.

Standing at the door to his home was the Supreme Chancellor, Mon Mothma herself. She was flanked by Senate Guards in blue flowing robes and behind them was Paron Ree.

“Chancellor. What an honor it is to have you at my home. Come in please.”

Thane then realized he was still holding his blaster in his hand behind the door. He knew better than to put it down in sight of the guards so he placed it on the table next to the door while he held it open.

“Might in inquire as to what this is about?” Thane asked in a questioning tone.

“Vice Admiral Kyrell, it has come to my attention that you have been engaged with Grand Admiral Gial Ackbar and Senator Organa-Solo in actions which could be considered a violation of the Galactic Concordance. Is this true?”

“My wife Ciena and I have been involved in some missions for the Admiral to gather intelligence on Imperial movement and patrol borders, but that is all I know.”

“Did Admiral Ackbar ever tell you not to mention anything to me about what you were doing?”

“Yes ma’am. He said it was a Republic military matter and did not concern your office.”

    “What happened Admiral?”

“We were called upon to patrol a border in the Western Reaches and scout for any Imperial Activity when we were suddenly ambushed by numerous Star Destroyers and fighters. We managed to take out four Star Destroyers and all their fighters and we captured an Imperial Captain who furnished valuable intelligence that proved the Imperials were violating the treaty.”

“And where is this prisoner now?”

“Last I heard I was just told a Republic Prison on Hosnian Prime.”

“Thank you Admiral. That will be all.”

The Chancellor turns and heads out the door.

“Thane, I am sorry. They came right after the elections and requested I bring them to you. Afterall I am the new Planetary Governor.”

    “Congratulations Paron,” Thane hugged him.

“Pappa! I am so happy for you!” Ciena yelled as she ran and embraced her father.

“Ciena how loing have you been there?” Thane asked.

“Long enough. Why did you tell her about Ackbar?”

“Ackbar isn’t doing anything wrong Ciena. And neither were we. Apparantly we didn’t know everything. Ackbar was keeping things from the Senate. I hope it doesn’t cost him his job.”

“It might very well do that Thane. You had better get to Coruscant and tell him what happened.”

“I will be on the next shuttle.”

    “Not without me you won’t”

“Ciena please you have the baby to take care of.”

“Pappa? Can you have Mumma come and watch the baby while we go take care of some business?”

“Of course. You know she will be delighted to do so.”

    “Let’s go Thane.”

3 Hours Later – Republic Command – Coruscant

The shuttle touches down on the landing pad and Ciena and Thane run to Ackbar’s office. They turn the corner and that’s when they see them, Blue armored Senate Guards.

    The Chancellor beat them there.

They walk around the corner and are immediately stopped by the guards.

After showing their credentials they are allowed entry. What they see surprises them.

The Chancellor and Grand Admiral are in a meeting. Shackled and sitting in the room, surrounded by Republic Spec Force Troopers, Is Nash Windrider.

“Admirals welcome. You are just in time. I am just about to present my case to the Chancellor.”

“Please sit,” Mon Mothma says as she points to two chairs at the Admiral’s Desk.

Ciena and Thane sit and the meeting begins.

The Admiral explains the intelligence gathered from the prisoner was used to help track Imperial movements.

He also explains how they have regrouped and changed their name to the First Order. They are building new ships and fighters.

“There has to be a way we can verify this information?” Mon Mothma said.

This is when Thane got mad.

He said sternly, “Chancellor, what more do you need? We have given you lots of intel reports and you have a prisoner who you can interrogate. Why are you dragging your feet on this?”

“I don’t like your tone Admiral.

“Well I don’t like risking my life and the lives of my family to not be taken seriously.”

“The Senate will not go for it.”

    “The Senate, or you.”

    This hit a nerve.

“Admiral Ackbar,” Mon Mothma yelled, “I demand that you strip this man of all his military ranks and awards. He is being insubordinate and I will not stand for it!”

    Ackbar just smiled.

“With all due respect Chancellor. He doesn’t work for you. You made that quite clear when you gave up your control of the armed forces. I control the navy. And for as long as I do, both Fleet Admiral and Vice Admiral Kyrell will both have jobs in this military.”

“Well then Admiral. Maybe you won’t work for me anymore.”

“You cannot remove a member of high command without a majority of the Senate approving. And you need just cause. You have none. Good day Chancellor.”

    “Admiral Ackbar!”

    “I said good day.”

With that Mon Mothma turned around and walked out of the office.

“Thane, Ciena, Thank you. You said what I have been wanting to say all along. I am not sure how I can repay you right now but I will think of something. It might end up costing my job, but I will pay you back.”

“There is no need Admiral. You remember what I said at Ciena’s trial about Honor and Jelucan culture?”

    Ackbar nodded.

    “Honor is enough.”

“Very well. Guards take the prisoner back to his cell.”

On the way out of the office Nash looked at Ciena and Thane.

He said to them, “The day will come when the First Order will rise again. And when that day comes. You both will be sorry. I will come for both of you. And your families.”

Ciena looked at Thane, her eyes welling with tears.

“Don’t worry Ciena. He is in maximum security. Nothing can happen.”

Nash heard Thane’s statement and said to himself, oh how little you know Thane.

The guards were so distracted with hauling Nash away they didn’t see the tall, lanky, shadowy figure following them. Following them back to the prison where Nash was being held.

Still writing. Up to Chapter 11 so far. I have began reading Bloodline so I want to tie in some of that as well. I know where this story is going and it will be finished before the timeline of Bloodline but some of the Characters will appear in this story to kind of "Fill in the gap" between the two books.

I hope you all enjoy the story. More coming soon and I must say it is getting good now. :)

    Chapter 10

The Next Day – Republic Maximum Security – Coruscant

The Maximum security prison was a dominating structure. It spanned over 100 levels from the surface and another hundred from the main entrance.

Inside were kept the Republic’s Most Wanted. Mostly Ex Imperials who surrendered to the Republic after the Battle of Jakku.

Nash Windrider was held there as were other Imperial Loyalists and Sympathizers.

The shadowy figure approached the main entrance to the prison. It was guarded by Republic Special Forces.

The figure stayed in the shadows. Because the Shadows were his home.

“Hey! Who are you? You don’t belong here!” He has been spotted.

As the guards go to take their shots the cloaked figure raises a frail hand. Immediately the blaster bolts freeze in midair.

The troopers look at each other. Baffled by what just happened.

The figure engages a crimson bladed lightsaber and begins to hack. Within moments all the guards are dead.

After he makes it inside the door the blaster bolts go flying. Hitting nothing but air.

Now for the rest of Phase Two.

The figure continues to lurk through the shadows. Killing all guards, he encounters.

The cloaked figure removes his cloak and gazes upon the man. He is looks like death. Large scars and burns all over his face. His head is nearly split in two.

He walks down the cell block, arriving at Nash’s cell.

“I knew you would come for me Master.”

“What did you tell them Captain?”

“Only what you told me to say Master.”

“Good. Now we will proceed with our plan.”

He opens the cell and with Nash they exit the prison. Stepping over bodies as they exit.

Before they leave one of the founders of the First Order turns his head and the alarms go off.

    He had succeeded.

“Come on Ciena. We are going to be late,” Thane said as he prepared for the Gala. It was the inauguration Gala for the newly elected leaders of Jelucan.

Anyone and Everyone would be there. Including the head of the New Jedi Order Grand Master Luke Skywalker himself.

Thane remembered him from his days in the Rebellion. He always heard about how Luke was training to be a Jedi.

Thane was too young to actually remember the Jedi but his parents would. They often told him stories about them, but he never cared to listen.

All that Force stuff was never really his thing. But Ciena seemed to believe in it so he would at least give it a shot.

    “Ciena! Let’s go!”

Thane walked to the bedroom to look for Ciena.

    She wasn’t there.

He walked all over the house looking for her. Until finally he found her. In the nursery.

    She was feeding the baby.

Thane couldn’t help but smile. He loved seeing her taking care of their child.

She looked up when he came in.

“Ciena, we’re going to be late,” he said in a low tone to not bother the baby. “We have to go now.”

“Ok Thane, just let me put him to bed.”

She stood up and put the baby down in the crib.

She and Thane stood there and looked at their baby. Smiling at each other they walked out of the room.

They got to the front room just in time for their babysitter to show up.

There was a knock on the door. Thane opened it and Kendy walked in.

“Come on you two. Go now or you will be late.”

“Kendy, we shouldn’t be late. If you need- “

“Yeah yeah I know. Now go you need to be there for your father Ciena,” Kendy said as she pushed them out the door.

Thane and Ciena arrived at the Capitol and proceed to their table. They are seated with Paron and Verine.

Thane scans the arriving crowds to see if his parents would come. He had gone through a lot of trouble to get them some invitations to this Gala and so far they had not shown up.

Just when Thane was starting to lose hope he saw his mother and father arrive and approach their table.

“Mother, Father, thank you for coming. You don’t know what this means to Ciena and I.”

“No son, thank you for getting us these invitations. We haven’t been to party like this in years.”

“Neither have we,” said Thane, thinking back to their last week at the academy and their being invited to the Imperial Gala.

In a way it was a lot like this. Politicians and other influential members of society.

Thane then saw a familiar face. It was Grand Master Skywalker, with his sister and Her husband.

Luke, Leia, and Han all walked in and made their way to the table on the stage.

This meant the events were about to begin.

Jelucan’s Newly Elected Senator Eldwin Grousse stepped up to the podium and officially started the ceremony.

“Fellow Citizens of Jelucan. I am honored to be here tonight under these greatest of circumstances. With the fall of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic there have been elections held to determine the course of our galaxy. I would like to introduce to you your newly elected Planetary Governor, who will oversee the day to day administration of the planet as well as other municipal operations and mining operations. Ladies and Gentlemen, The Honorable Paron Ree.”

Paron rose from his seat as the crowd broke out into applause, and made his way up to the podium.

“Thank you Senator Grousse. It will be an honor to work with you. Together we can help to rebuild this galaxy from the rubble it was. I do not know who nominated me but I am glad they did. This will be an adventure that I am glad to embark on. I will work for you, the people of Jelucan to make sure your voices are heard in the Senate. I will work in conjunction with Senator Grousse to make sure that happens. Jelucan is already improving and under my administration will only get better. Let us begin.”

The crowd cheered and Paron shook hands with the politicians before returning to his table.

Ciena, Thane, and Verine embraced him and he shook hands with Oris and Ganaire before being seated.

After he was seated the Senator introduced the next speaker.

“Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to introduce you to someone who was instrumental in building our New Government and ending the oppression that was the Empire. Senator Leia Organa – Solo.”

The crowd cheered as Leia got up to the podium and made her speech then gave a standing ovation when she finished.

After all speeches had been given the food was served. It was the finest Bantha steaks with all the trimmings and the finest Nubian wine.

The music started playing. Eventually it got to a song that Ciena recognized.

She looked at Thane who recognized it too.

It was the first song they danced to at the Gala oh so long ago.

“Ciena would you like to join me on the dancefloor?” Thane asked.

“Of course my love. Lead the way.”

Thane took her hand and they went out and began dancing. As Thane held Ciena close he couldn’t help but notice how much more beautiful she had become since their son was born.

They danced for hours holding each other close. At the end of the night they shared a kiss.

As they were heading for the exit Grand Master Skywalker approached them.

Thane saw him and held out his hand, “Mast Skywalker. It is an honor.”

“Thane. I’m sorry I am just seeing you now. I saw you earlier in the night but I wasn’t able to get to see you.”

“You wanted to see us Maser Skywalker?”

“Yes. I wanted to try to talk with you and your wife. I just wanted to tell you, I sense the force strongly in both of you.” Thane rolled his eyes but Ciena poked him with her elbow in his side.

“Please go on Master Skywalker,” She said. “you sense the force in us?”

“Not just sense it but I believe with training you will be able to do great things. As you know I am rebuilding the Jedi Order. Would either of you be interested in training?”

Ciena knew what Thane would say, “Master Skywalker, while we appreciate your offer we are military. Always have been and always will be.”

Luke smiled, “That’s great. We need great officers like the 2 of you and I think your abilities with the Force will make you better than you already are. By the way Thane, how are things with your parents? I saw they are with you tonight.”

“Yes and I want to thank you Master Skywalker. Without your great advice I wouldn’t have made amends with them and I probably would have regretted it later.”

“Thane I never knew my father when I was a boy. I was told he was killed in the Clone Wars. In reality he turned against the Jedi and became Darth Vader. I had to confront him and his Master the Emperor. I had no choice. Even when all others thought he was lost deep down my father still loved me. As all parents do. He gave his life saving me from the Emperor and in turn sacrificed himself.”

Ciena and Thane looked at him in shock. He was related to Lord Vader? The evilest man in the galaxy next to the Emperor.

“Then the real reason I came to talk to you tonight is that we have just received word that the prisoner Nash Windrider has escaped custody.”

Ciena and Thane looked at him with shock. How could this have happened? Wasn’t he in maximum security?

“Master Skywalker, how did this happen?” Thane asked surprised.

“It is still under investigation. But until he is caught you have been assigned a security detail. He directly threatened you and your family. You will have a full contingent of Rebel Special Forces guarding yourself and your families.”

At this time Ciena looked worried. Luke said, “Don’t worry. These troopers are the best there are.”

What Luke didn’t mention was that along with the troopers he was sending some Jedi Knights dressed as troopers.

They had reviewed the security footage and saw that blasters had no effect on this Force User. Which is why Jedi would be the best defense.

“Ah here they are now,” Luke said as two Jedi, dressed as troopers, came through the door and stood by Thane and Ciena.

“Only two?” Ciena said, “How can we be protected with only two?”

“It’s the ones you don’t see that are dangerous Ciena and believe me there are more around.”

“Thane I am worried about this.”

“There is nothing to be worried about Ciena. They are protecting us.”

“Some troopers have already gone to you, and your family’s houses to do some security sweeps.”

“Well I must be going. May the Force Be With you.”

“May the Force Be With You, Master Skywalker,” Ciena said.

Ciena and Thane rushed outside to meet with their parents who were already getting briefed by some Special Forces Troopers. They said their goodbyes and headed home.

When they go to their house Kendy was nowhere to be seen. They began to worry.

Ciena went running to the baby’s bedroom.

“THANE!” She yelled hysterically, “The baby is gone Thane. And so is Kendy!”

Tears were streaming down her face.

Just at that moment the front door opened and Kendy came in holding baby Paron.

Ciena let out a loud sigh and ran to Kendy and grabbed the baby and held him close.

“Kendy! Where were you! We were worried sick!”

“I’m sorry Ciena I needed to head into town to get some things. I thought I had left you a note.” She walks over to the kitchen counter and showed Ciena the handwritten note.

    “Here it is.”

“I’m so sorry Kendy. Things have been tense lately. Nash escaped and the Republic is afraid he might be coming after us. We even have our own security detail,” he pointed to the Troopers.

“Well you should go back to the Liberty then. Nash would never be able to get to you there.”

“With respect ma’am,” one of the Jedi disquised as a trooper said, “I would highly recommend that. You would be in a secured area which would be easier for us to protect you.”

    “What about our families?”

“We can see about relocating them there as well. I’m sure there is plenty of room.”

“Yes there is. My quarters are on an entire deck and there are lots of empty rooms.”

“It’s settled then. Men we are moving out. We are to head to the shuttles to head up to the ship In orbit once they are ready.”

“Thane I have never been on a shuttle with the baby. Do you think he will be ok?”

“I do Ciena. It will all be ok.”

Nash watched intently through his macro binoculars the scene unfolding in front of him.

“So they have a security detail? Nothing can stand up to what we have. Wait is that also a baby? Oh bonus. Admiral Hux will be glad to hear this.” he said to himself as he continued to watch.

He watched as they all left the house and then moved to the city where they boarded shuttles.

Probably heading for the ship in orbit. Nash thought to himself.

Nash quickly gathered up his gear and made for the administration building. Hiding in the shadows the whole time.

He watched the shuttles take off before he got to the gate of the Administration building. Since he was dressed in normal clothes the troopers at the compound never looked at him twice.

He was able to find an empty supply crate.

“This will do. It will probably be taken back up to the ship within the next day judging by its location.”

He gets inside the crate and waits.

He doesn’t have to wait long. The crate is soon loaded onto a freighter to be taken to the Liberty.

After the freighter docks Nash slowly opens the box. He is face to face with a Republic trooper.

“Who are you? How did you get in there?” the trooper asked.

Without saying a word Nash pulled his blaster and shot the trooper point blank.

The sound caused other guards to come running. By the time they got there however, Nash was already gone. Into the ship. Looking for Thane and Ciena.

Nash snuck through the ship. He remembered back to his Academy days and used the maintenance tunnels to avoid detection.

He remembered the Admiral’s quarters were on their own separate level.

    “Almost there,” he said.

He went a few more feet then found the door for the maintenance tunnel.

When he exits he is in the Admiral’s corridor. There are Republic troopers standing by the door to the Admiral’s suite and more at other doors long the hall.

Probably the family. Or a diversion.

He gets back into a corner as he hears a trooper approaching.

As the trooper passes him he jumps out and knocks the trooper over the head then drags him back to the corner.

He takes the trooper’s uniform and puts him into the maintenance tunnel.

Nash walks down the hall repeating the guard’s patrol route.

He comes to the door to the Admiral’s suite and tells the troopers at the door he needs to check inside.

The troopers let him in only for him to see more troopers waiting inside. But these are not normal troopers. They are Jedi.

The Jedi know instantly he isn’t a trooper. They sense danger.

Igniting their lightsabers, they ready for battle.

All of a sudden the interior door opens.

Nash sees Thane standing in the doorway.

“Nash, you surprise me. I thought you would be smarter than this. You fell into this trap. It’s not like you.”

“A lot of things have Changed Thane,” he holds up his pistol.

The Jedi prepare to defend Thane then he says, “No. Leave him to me.”

The Jedi retracted their lightsabers and left the room.

“Just you and me Nash. You don’t need the pistol.”

“Very well,” he throws the pistol and it lands just next to Thane by the door.

Thane runs and jumps on Nash. He rains blows upon him.

Nash punches and kicks Thane. Each of them scores some good hits.

    Then there is blaster fire.

Nash and Thane look up to see Ciena standing in the doorway holding Nash’s blaster pistol.

“Ciena,” Thane said as the blood ran down his face, “I can take him. No need for that.”

“Shoot him Ciena,” Nash said. “After everything he did to you he deserves it. Remember he deserted then faked his death and joined the rebellion. How many of our friends did he and his cronies kill Ciena?”

“Nash I knew about him being alive all the time. I was the one who faked his death.”

“Ciena you can still come with me back to the First Order and start all over. We need good pilots. Shoot him and we can walk out of here together.”

Ciena points the pistol towards Thane.

    “He has a point Thane.”

    “Ciena. What are you doing!”

“I am considering taking him up on his offer.”

“Why Ciena? You know I love you Ciena. I never wanted to hurt you.”

“True Thane. But you did kill many of my friends. Many good pilots who died needlessly because you had to prove a point. You betrayed me when you became a terrorist Thane.”

Nash moves in next to Thane, positioning himself to take Thane down once Ciena shot him.

    “I’m sorry Thane.”

Ciena squeezed the trigger and the body fell to the floor.

Ciena saw Thane’s body fall. Seeing his body lying there on the floor, she began to cry.

“What have I done?” she said to herself.

Then she felt a grip on her shoulders and it brought her back to reality.

Thane was standing there in front of her.

She looked down and saw Nash. He was dead.

    And she had killed him.

Immediately her eyes filled with tears. She had killed one of her best friends.

Through the outside doors the Jedi and Kendy had entered and observed the scene in the small antechamber.

“Ciena, look at me. Are you ok?” Thane asked.

“Yes,” she managed to say. “I’m sorry Thane. I had to make it seem real so he would let his guard down. I didn’t mean to kill him.”

“It was him or us Ciena.”

“Then I am glad it was him. I am so sorry Thane.”

She ran back into her room and fell onto her bed where she cried uncontrollably.

“Thane, let me talk to her.”

“OK Kendy. I will stay here and assist the troopers and the Jedi with the cleanup.”

Kendy walked past Thane and into the room where she saw Ciena crying uncontrollably.

Kendy sat on Ciena and Thane’s bed and embraced Ciena, letting her cry. She had just killed her friend.

Thane entered the room but Kendy waved him off.

“Ciena, look at me,” Kendy said in a calm soothing voice.

Ciena looked up at her. Tears still welling up in her eyes.

“Ciena, you did what you had to. You know if you didn’t kill Nash he would have killed Thane. I know you didn’t want to kill him. You didn’t have a choice.”

“No I did have a choice. I chose to kill Nash. Kendy he was our friend.”

“I know that Ciena. He was my friend too but he had changed. Even you saw that. If you hadn’t have killed him he could have killed, you and Thane. Then what would have happened to your baby? Would you have wanted him growing up without a father and mother?”

“No I wouldn’t have wanted that.”

“Then you made the right choice.”

Thane again came into the room. By now Ciena had stopped crying.

They hugged each other and Kendy slipped out quietly giving them some alone time.

As Kendy walked down the hall she put in an appointment for Ciena to see the ship’s doctor. She needed help. Emotional help.

“So What you are telling me is that our operative within Republic space is dead?”

“Yes that is what I am telling you Master.”

“Never send someone to do something you can always do yourself.”

“Master, with all due respect I don’t think you should be travelling.”

“You are forgetting Snoke. I am immortal. I have manipulated the Force enough that I can make it make me live forever!”

“Master I highly advise against this.”

“My former apprentice was like you. He never understood my power. Which is why I never fully taught him everything. If I had he would be alive even now. He was a fool who thought he could run the galaxy without me. Good riddance.”

“Master allow me to go with you.”

“No Snoke. You are not ready. I will handle this.”

    Snoke ignites his lightsaber.

“I am ready Master. I will prove it to you.”

He walks over and activates the training droids.

Killing all of them within seconds his master looks pleased.

“Droids are programmed. They cannot think. Humans can. You are not ready Snoke. Only when you have perfected your abilities, will you be ready.”

This only made Snoke even more angry.

    “Yes Master.”

“Good. Now go practice your lightsaber techniques. Don’t forget what I taught you about blaster bolts.”

    “Yes Master.”

The shadowy figure walks out of the room, leaving Snoke to seethe in his own anger and wallow in his own self-loathing.

As he walks out of the room Snoke looks over again at the body of Grand Moff Randd hanging on the wall.

“You shouldn’t have tried to cross my master,” he said with a grin. “The Empire is ours now. Now it is the First Order.”

Snoke walks out of the room and onto landing platform where a lambda shuttle awaits.

Standing next to the shuttle was a mysterious Fleet Admiral. Wearing a white uniform with his blue skin and red eyes contrasting against the white Lambda shuttle.

“Let’s go Snoke. Your master will be awaiting us.” They board the shuttle and head up to the Star Destroyer leaving the planet of Ilum far behind them.

The Star Destroyer gets closer and closer.

“Which one is that Admiral,” Snoke asks.

“The Chimaera,” the Admiral says as he smiles sinisterly.
