Rogue One [Official Info] Grand Moff Tarkin (Guy Henry and Peter Cushing) in Rogue One

It seems that they want to see how Tarkin will look and sound before deciding to use him, if he doesn't look convincing they'll cgi him out. Or they might just leave the stand in (Guy Henry) as an ordinary Imperial commander.

 

I must have missed the Guy Henry rumour back when it was being talked about (early Jan this year?), but it does seem that he could have been the stand in for Tarkin (with the plan of adding CGI later to compliment the look)...





The only thing is, it looks like Guy Henry is much taller than what Peter Cushing would have been, and it's difficult to get an estimated height of the Tarkin stand in from this image ...



(Although, now that it has been pointed out - the officer standing directly behind the Tarkin double does look exceedingly short compared to him, so perhaps it is a very tall actor after all?)

 

The height of Guy Henry and that of the late Peter Cushing has had me puzzled ever since that rumour emerged, Guy Henry is something like 6ft3in but appears taller, I thought Peter Cushing was around 5ft10in from seeing him standing next to Christopher Lee.

 

Correcting the height of someone is Hollywoods smallest problem these days.

 

I read somewhere he was 6'1, which made him slightly shorter than Tagge/Motti at 6'2 and Vader 6'6

 

Peter Cushing really didn't look that tall. Like, not at all.

The above photo gives a perspective of Cushing's height. Google search Tarkin, Lucas and Vader...you'll find numerous set photos that Cushing had above average (5'9") height. Prowse stands at 6'6", and Don Henderson (Tagge) was almost Vader's physical equal in the scene where Vader is pacing about how Leia is resisting the mind probe. A good scene showing how much of an authority figure Tarkin is...just by casually tapping the dark lord on the chest plate to get his attention...seriously who does that?! Lol

 

The problem with judging Cushing's height from ANH is in some scenes he was wearing jackboots, whilst everywhere else he's wearing slippers. Using the photo as a guide i'd say he would be only about 4 or 5 inches below Vader (going eye to eye), easily within the height of Guy Henry, who's facial features would seem to lend well to easier cgi manipulation.


Tarkin certainly was the boss and he must've been 100% confident Palpatine saw it that way or Vader would've snuffed him out as easy as pinching his fingers.

 

At 1:20 in the new trailer, we apparently see Tarkin walking into the room with Krennic standing in the distance. I look forward to this scene to see how well they've been able to transform the actor into Peter Cushing.

 

I'd like to see a screenshot of that.

 

This is the scene at 1.20. Where's Tarkin? Who's the young guy in the foreground I wonder?

 

Well that's why I said apparently. I agree that the hair is a bit dark. But the hair is dark in the BTS video too.

 

Fair enough. Looks like a kid to me from the back. Doesn't have the slicked back hair either. Can't see that being Tarkin

 

It's Tarkin. I can't see some cadet strolling into a room and being the center of attention.

 

Whoever he is, he seems to be more important than the other officers.

 

Agree with that, but that doesn't mean Tarkin is the only option. Unless there's a flashback to when Tarkin was 24 I don't think it's him.

Perhaps this young officer is just a nobody. He's walking in & announcing some important news to the command staff. The camera may be following him to add weight to the scene & the news he's delivering. Just a guess.

I don't think the hair is that off. Looks like the "Tarkin" from the BTS reel. Makes sense given the set up of the shot. Maybe there is still some post work to be done, but dollars to donuts that's Tarkin.

Tarkin was just so busy he forgot to dye his hair after the rebels stole the plans. There mystery solved.

I think they'll be using a stand-in for Tarkin then a blend of CG and unused footage from ANH.

 

This is Guy Henry, i'm certain but will it be his final appearance?
