As far as Joss Whedon directing a Star Wars movie...

Considering that there is exactly 0 fallout from that scene, I would say that's my impression...

    BREAKING NEWS-

So Donald Glover is now confirmed to be young Lando-

If anything i'll watch the Han Solo spinoff just because of Lando... if they nail him of course (which is a difficult task considering he may or may not have Billy Dee's suave moves, but well, here goes nothing) :lando::cool:

    I'm mixed.

I like Joss but Firefly is very much like SW- evil empire, Blue Sun etc.

His style matches ANH so if it was in that style it would work but I don't know.

I think it's likely though, since JJ got a chance to do a film and they are both fans.

    Lando is forever baby.

    I'll remain optimistic about it.
I'll see every SW film but I don't have to like them.

    That's why I don't like it-

JJ's über fandom and the innability to see Star Wars pass the nostalgia lens is what I don't like about Whedon-

Besides, if the Avengers is anything to judge him by, then it's simply a no for me-

Then again, my interest in SW has diminished to some extent ever since TFA so it won't really matter if he gets to do one or not.

Is it bad that I want Zoe Kravitz in the Han movie chiefly because I want there to be a tenuous connection between SW and The Jeffersons and The Cosby Show/A Different World?

Is Joss Whedon not liked very much? (Not in here, just the Internet in general) Mostly because I've seen quite a few negative comments for his movies. I'm not really in that camp though, I quite like some of his stuff, though I've never seen Firefly(and I feel like I probably should :p )

I also have never seen Firefly and so have no idea what to think about Whedon + SW.

    The thing with directors is:

"You either die a hero or you live long enough to become a villain"

George Lucas, Peter Jackson and now Joss Whedon.

It started showing with The Avengers Age of Ultron. After the Avengers, Whedon had an impossible task and unfortunately the Internet wasn't impressed. Too much "Whedonisms" was a common comment about the film when the first film was the same.

Whedon is a talented creator but sometimes becomes too pleased with his creations (Steven Moffat etc.) After the fame and glory of Firefly he became a little too arrogant. (Empire's ending wasn't what he would have done")

I don't agree with that rhetoric actually-

Peter Jackson and GL don't deserve the hatred they get-

I swear that fandom has in a lot of ways become such an ugly thing- especially since the dawn of social media it has become fertile ground for it to get angry and complain about what you like-

which is borderline psychotic at this point

True, I know PJ's Hobbit movies have a similar prequel dislike towards them (probably not as much) and the I also liked both Avengers. It then again I also liked TFA so maybe I'm just easy to please if I'm interested in it ;) :p

Joss Whedon is a genius. He definitely has a point of view in most of his films, but is more than capable of tucking that under in favor of a dominant narrative voice.

The first Avengers was fantastic and is the only reason I even watched the other movies in the franchise. But before that, he did Buffy, Angel, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, and Firefly/Serenity. He managed to do three universes in a different, fresh voice that was narratively different. Not many directors can do that.

He also did a remake of Much Ado About Nothing that was amazing and brought all the fun of the original play out without sacrificing what I believe Shakespeare would have wanted, and kept every bit of dialogue intact.

Star Wars has its own narrative voice and I have struggled with JJ Abrams' interpretation. But Joss is a completely different director with a different style and he does not hack into nostalgia in the same way as Abrams at all. Joss creates cult classics, Abrams rehashes them and hits all the "good points" but struggles with the original magic.

    So how about YES.

I'm a big fan of Shakespeare and go see the Shakespeare in the Park every year, and this adaptation was hilarious, sad, and perfect.

Also check out Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog!

Oh and speaking of Joss Whedon, he also wrote some of the best X-Men comics but had to do his typical thing and break your heart at the end of his run.
