I'd prefer if its a result of a military coup against the Sith Council, then gradually the Sith military integrates with the Republic one, resulting in a more militant Republic for the first time since Pius Dea and the Mandalorian Wars. Just can't see Sith and Jedi integrated under one structure, not THIS early anyway. Post-Endor, sure.

Its going to be interesting to see how it goes for sure. My SW is 100% Empire, but my Consular would probably wait and consider both sides are after before making his choice. My BH really hates the empire, but his honor might force him to side with them, as they actually helped him while the republic sat around doing nothing.

    Spoiler for 5.2.

Some old faces that will appear in 5.2. update: Acina, Jace Malcolm and... Darth Malgus. No idea why he is there but they have added him for Iokath (npc.daily_area.iokath.shared.darth_malgus).

    BIG SPOILERS!

We kill Jace Malcolm or Acina.

Player:Someone betrayed me. They lured me into that death trap and sabotaged the throne--just like they tricked all of us into fighting a war on Iokath.
Lana: The conspiracy cuts deeper than we imagined.
Theron: Sounds like an inside job, all right. Only a handful of people could get close enough to sabotage the throne.

Lana: Give the order, and I'll begin surveillance of everyone. Even Theron and myself. It's the only way to flush out the traitor.
Player: I won't let one traitor turn me against my followers. They've earned my trust.
Theron: I'm glad someone hasn't lost their mind.

Lana: The Shroud would normally be a suspect, but we've already cracked that mystery. Then there's Darth Jadus, or a rogue agent inside the Republic SIS...

Jace: Commander! I knew you'd pull through--and back in fighting shape, no less.
Jace: I hope you're ready to return to the front lines.
Player: We struck down Empress Acina and stopped the apocalypse. I'd say we've earned a moment to celebrate.

Player: Their Empress is dead. Are the Imperials really refusing to surrender?
Jace: The Imps are dug in and armed to the teeth. Now that Acina's gone, they're more desperate than ever for control of Iokath.

Player: Someone stabbed me in the back. Was it you?
    Jace: This is absurd.
    Theron: Answer the question.
Jace: We're in this together. If there was bad blood between us, I'd tell you. To your face.

Player: The Empire can't fight forever. Without Acina's guidance, they'll be crushed between our armies.
Jace: Victory's never been closer. We need to keep hammering the Empire. Day by day, hour by hour. Only then will we win this war.

J: I had a son once. He dedicated his life to defending the Republic.
T: I dedicated my life to the fight for peace. And when you bowed to the Eternal Empire, I decided to fight back. That's why I joined the Alliance.
J: And your idealistic war nearly destroyed the Republic.

Player: We struck down Malcom and stopped the apocalypse. I'd say we've earned a moment to celebrate.
Acina: Before we celebrate, I have to offer my condolences to Agent Shan...
Acina: Your father was a bore, but I respected his prowess on the battlefield. I'm sorry for your loss.
Theron: What're you doing here, Empress?
Acina: I've come to wish the Commander good health. And to discuss our continued war efforts.

Player: Their Supreme Commander's dead. Is the Republic still refusing to surrender?
Acina: Without Malcom, the Republic forces are in total chaos. They're more desperate than ever for control of Iokath.
Player: Someone stabbed me in the back. Was it you?
    Acina: This is preposterous.
    Theron: Answer the question.
Acina: My life is an open book. Scour every detail, and you'll find I would never betray you.

Acina: We must rain destruction on the Republic. Day and night, until we soak Iokath with their blood. Only then will we emerge triumphant.

    More spoilers (Elara):

Elara will break up with you if you have done a lot of dark things in KotFE/KotET or if you supported the Empire during Iokath storyline.

Elara: I heard about Jorgan. I haven't felt so disgusted since I defected.
Elara: You've massacred civilians and ignored every ethical restraint conceivable in your campaign to conquer Zakuul.
Elara: My orders are to support and assist you against the Sith Empire, but I will not be a party to such brutality. You are not my commander.
Player: Elara... you're the love of my life. Please, just let me explain.
Elara: The man I loved died six years ago. I don't know who you are.
Player: How can you say that, after all we've been through together?
Elara: If our time together turned you into this, then I regret every second of it.

Elara: We searched for you. Endlessly. I'm sure Jorgan filled you in on the political particulars, but my role as Havoc commander didn't survive the experience.
Elara: Jorgan broke more than his share looking for you. When we were all officially reprimanded, the former Chancellor saw an opportunity to remove me from Havoc and took it.
Elara: Malcom stepped in on my behalf and assigned me to his personal staff. He even gave me assignments that allowed me to continue the search. Even so... I had to stop searching eventually. I had to move on, focus on the future. And now you return as... this, when I have hundreds of soldiers depending on me. I'd already abandoned you... I couldn't abandon them.
Player: You have nothing to apologize for, Elara.
Elara: I swore to find you. To rescue you, bring you home...
Player: Every time I thought it was over... I thought of you, and I kept going. You got me here.
Elara: I left some labs running. I'm going to check on them and try to find more options for your condition. I won't lose you again. We've lost so much time... not one more second.

Elara: You've made your choice. I spent so many years searching for you, trying to bring you back...
Elara: And now, after all of this time... I wish you'd stayed dead.
Player: You can't mean that, Elara. We loved each other... I still love you.
Elara: The man I loved would never do the things you've done.
Player: I know we aren't seeing eye-to-eye, but I'm still the same person I was all those years ago. I'm still trying to protect the galaxy.
Elara: This isn't a philosophical argument--you've killed Republic soldiers! My soldiers! All to help the Sith Empire claim a superweapon that will undoubtedly kill thousands more!
Player: Join me Elara. Republic, Empire... none of that matters now. I'm going to make the galaxy a better place for everyone.
Elara: Starting with your unstoppable attack fleet and brand-new superweapon?
Elara: There's nothing else to say here. Nothing.
Player: I might have been willing to spare you, given our history. But not anymore. If I see you again... you die.

Elara: But I couldn't carry on like that forever. The Republic needed me. I still hoped you'd return, but... I never imagined it would be quite like this. Carbonite, the Eternal Empire, Valkorion... the recruitment officer definitely left a few things out.
Player: I guess you're not too big on my recent, uh... promotion, then?
Elara: I think the role suits you, actually. If there's anyone I'd trust with the kind of power the Alliance wields, it's you.
    or
Elara: I wouldn't say I'd ever pictured you as a galactic dictator, no.

Theron: I know you two have a lot of history, but she could be our traitor.
Lana: The question is: do you trust Captain Dorne?
Player: I'd trust Elara with my life. She would never do something like this.

    Spoilers (Quinn):

    Yes, you can kill him.

    P: It's been a long time, Quinn.
Q: Too long. After you disappeared, I spent months on the hunt.
Q: Minister Lorman even heard about my crusade and ordered me to call off the search. He wanted the Emperor's Wrath to "stay missing."
Q: Naturally, I refused... and found myself in Imperial prison. I was locked away for years--until Empress Acina pardoned me shortly before you retired the poor Minister.
P: And now you've traded one prison for another.
Q: Before you lock me up, I needed to say... I still have feelings for you.
Q: If our relationship means anything to you, please, pardon my crimes. Spare me from prison.
P: I could never imprison the man I love.
Q: That's music to my ears.
    or
P: I'll never trust you again. Not after you betrayed me to Darth Baras.
Q: I thought that indiscretion was behind us.
P: You were wrong. Now report to your cell, before I change my mind.
Q: Then I suppose this is goodbye... Farewell, my lord.
    or
P: You're a civilized man, Quinn. Throw away those uptight manners--and beg for my mercy.
Q: Please, my lord. I beg of you! I'm sorry! I'm a filthy, rotten scumbag, and I--I never should have betrayed you! Spare me! Please!
Q: Is that to your liking, my lord?
P: You've won your freedom, Quinn. When I need you, I'll summon you.
    or
Q: You've saved your life, but not your freedom. Report to your cell and get out of my sight.

P: You don't deserve prison, Quinn.
    Q: That's wonderful...
    P: You deserve death.
    Q: ...my lord?
P: You betrayed me to Darth Baras, and again to Empress Acina. Now, after years of waiting, I will finally watch you die.
T: So much for Major Quinn.
P: Don't shed a tear over poor old Quinn. This was a long time coming.

Q: I actually tried to approach you once. When you visited Acina on Dromund Kaas. But I lost my nerve... I worried you'd fallen out of love with me.
P: I love you, Quinn. I always have, and I always will.
Q: I love you too, my lord.
    or
P: You were right, Quinn. We had something once, but those days are over.

    Some more:

P: We will ally with the Sith Empire.
    A: A wise choice.
J: Never thought I'd see a Jedi side with the Sith.
J: Typical merc. We never should've trusted you.
    J: You're a disgrace to Havoc Squad.
J: Sith never listen to reason.
    J: You're more loyal than I thought.
J: Once an Imp, always an Imp.
    J: Dorne. Do it.
E: Forgive me, sir. For the Republic.

P: We will ally with the Republic.
    J: Glad to hear it.
A: A Jedi running to the Republic's defense. How predictable.
A: What a good little soldier you turned out to be.
A: Go on. Run back to your Republic masters.
A: From a vaunted Sith to a Republic lackey. How pathetic.
    A: Never trust a mercenary.
A: Intelligence should have retired you when they had the chance.
A: Major Quinn. You have your orders.
Q: Forgive me, my lord. For the Empire.

    P: Where's Malcom?
    J: Right here.
J: Last chance. Surrender, or I activate the superweapon.
    T: No deal.
    Ja: Theron. You wouldn't.
P: It's over. Lay down your weapons, and you can end this war right now.
J: The Republic's not finished yet.
    T: No. But you are.
J: You've chosen this tyrant over me? Over the Republic?
    T: Yes. I have.
    P: Take the shot!
    T: I'm sorry.
    J: Theron...
    T: I can't...
J: It's okay, son. Lower your weapon.
    P: Don't you dare.
    T: No!
J: I see a radiant city. Bathed in light, forged by the molten gods...

J: You were right, son. I'm so sorry. Tell your mother I'm sorry...
T: You always put the Republic first. I hated you for that.
J: But now you're gone, and I couldn't save you...
P: You can't save everyone, Theron. Your father died fighting for what he believed in. Sometimes, that's all that matters.

    About new operation:

    • New operation on Iokath called "Gods from the Machine" - first boss is "Tyth."
      • Boss #1 - Tyth
      • Boss #2 - Aivela and Esne
      • Boss #3 - Nahut
      • Boss #4 - Scyva
      • Boss #5 - Izax
These bosses are mashines that ravaged Zakuul centuries ago:
"They were forged on Iokath in a forgotten age. Their masters set them loose upon Zakuul, killing millions--and giving birth to our pantheon of gods."

    About our new enemy:

    TYTH says this:
THE BETRAYER LURED YOU TO IOKATH. IGNITED WAR. SPARKED THE ENGINES OF RAGE, ENVY, PASSION, HATE, SORROW.

Malgus was called "the Betrayer" once, right?

    I love it too, but...
choosing between the Republic and the Empire will be much harder now, that we know we will end up killing Acina or Jace. My JK was friendly to the new Empire and grateful for saving his life on Voss... now he will have to betray the Republic or betray his ally.

I'm... concerned, about how they'll be able to proceed with all these options without some railroading - which is a known Bioware problem. But as a possibility, I quite frankly love that things can come full circle with the player effectively becoming Darth Revan.

    More from TYTH:

    Yeah, TYTH speaks in caps.

TYTH: I AM RAGE. MOLTEN FURY. YOUR GOD AND YOUR DESTROYER.
    P: It's you, isn't it? You're the superweapon everyone's fighting over.
T: I AM ONE OF SIX.
P: All right, Mister Rage. Can you drop the act and point me in the direction of the superweapon?
T: THE SIX BOW TO NO ONE.
P: You're just a machine, stranded on a dead planet and worshiped by a bunch of tin cans.
T: DARKNESS. LIES. SHOW ME YOUR RAGE.
(player is DS) YOU BURN WITH FURY. IMMOLATION. ANGER. A SACRIFICE SUPERIOR.
(player is LS) CALM. PEACE. IT DENIES FURY. A SACRIFICE MEDIOCRE.
P: I didn't come here to be poked and prodded.
T: YOU HAD NO CHOICE. YOU WERE LURED HERE. BLINDED BY DUTY. DISTRACTED BY TRUST. YOU DID NOT SEE THE BLADE TO YOUR NECK. THE RAGE IN YOUR SHADOW. THE TRAITOR. YOU ARE BETRAYED.
P: I'm the ruler of the Eternal Alliance. Of the galaxy. Who would dare turn against me?
P: I've given up everything to help the galaxy rebuild. Who would try to destroy me?
T: ONE MARKED BY ANGER. PAIN. HOPE ERODING.
P: This is all a trick to get my blood boiling.
    T: RAGE FEEDS ON TRUTH.
P: I've let too many people into my inner circle. It was only a matter of time before someone stabbed me in the back.
    T: SUSPICION CORRODES.
T: THE BETRAYER LURED YOU TO IOKATH. IGNITED WAR. SPARKED THE ENGINES OF RAGE, ENVY, PASSION, HATE, SORROW. THE BETRAYER NOW OFFERS YOU: SACRIFICE PRIME. FUEL FOR THE SIX GODS!
P: This doesn't have to end in violence. Calm down, and let's talk this through.
    T: THERE IS ONLY RAGE!
P: What do you mean by "sacrifice"?
    T: WITNESS.
P: I'm not an offering. I'm your destroyer.
T: RAGE! NOW YOU FALL--AND THE GODS RISE.

Doesn't have to end in death. You can just take them captive.

    More random info:

    • Zakuuls pantheon of Gods came to be when the six bosses of the new operation ravaged Zakuul centuries ago, hence why they share the same names. The Scions also make a return and proclaim that the player will become a god by defeating and thus "taming" these titans, who you will then unleash against your enemies (Republic or Empire).
    • You can kill Quinn. Yes, you can kill Quinn. But it looks like it's only possible for a Sith Warrior - all possible last words to him reference Baras. "I've dreamt of this moment for years. Now, after all this time, I finally get to watch you die."
    • Potential mentioned suspects for luring all parties to Iokath are Shroud and Darth Jadus. We all know who's the reall BETRAYER though.
    • Eternal Throne is not unique. There are more thrones on Iokath. One controls the superweapon that the opposing faction tried to activate (Tyth).
    • It's been six years, eight months and twelve days since the attack on Marr's task force. This confirms that KOTFE+KOTET take place mostly in real time. KOTFE lasts almost a year and KOTET begins after a 6-month time skip.

We struck down Empress Acina and stopped the apocalypse. I'd say we've earned a moment to celebrate.
We took down Acina and stopped the apocalypse. I'd say we've earned a breather.

Two different version of one line with a notable difference - one implies she was killed, another - depowered.

So is the operation tied to the solo story like on Oricon, or is it possible to complete the Iokath story without the op, like with Revan? Or is the op just completely separate from the solo story?

Operation is separate. The main storyline deals with Republic and Empire trying to claim a superweapon after a traitor leaked the info on it. As it wraps up, you learn the nature of the superweapon, after which the Scions arrive and give you a new quest to go and neutralize it.

The side you choose prevails. Letting the opponent live IS the good guy option.

Now that is surprising. The Zakuul pantheon were actually artificial beings, then, from Iokath. Does this mean Valkorion never found Iokath? Did he then not build the Throne either, but found it somewhere else other than Iokath?

Interesting implications regarding multiple thrones, too, not even mentioning that replica that magically appeared on Odessen in Chapter 9. It would mean that the fleet was already bound to the throne before it was recovered and put in the Spire.
